Devil’s Dyke - was this where Julius Caesar defeated Britain’s Celts?

This massive defensive earthwork in Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire, in the southeast of England, was constructed around 2,000 years ago and may have been the site of Julius Caesar’s defeat of Britain’s Celts.

We've got a place called The Devil's Dyke, just outside Brighton. It's a geological formation. I was wondering why I hadn't heard of a Roman period battle around here.

… and btw, he didn’t beat the Celts in Briton, as he had slaughtered them in Gaul: Claudius had to come back & finish the job.

He secured the vassalage of some of the tribes, as the video states. Effectively, he created a bridgehead. This video is, to some extent, about the creation of that bridgehead.

@@TheHiddenHistoryChannel Well, he also fought and defeated them at Brentford, and again at Caesar’s Camp near Aldershot at the site of an iron age fort there. I’m sure there were numerous others. The point being, the Celts still weren’t subjugated at this time, that came later.

@@tenbear5 yes, the video doesn’t say they were. They were defeated and paid tribute - but they were not incorporated into the Roman Empire at this stage.

Julius Caesar never conquered the ancient Britons. They chased him out of Britain. Ancient Troy was located in Britain and the Welsh fought in that war as Cimmerians and Cariadians. The King of Cariadia wore his bling into battle and was targeted by the Manx Myrmidians led by Achilles who killed him took the Kings armour.

The video does not say that he conquered the ancient Britons. He did secure the vassalage of some tribes however. And Troy was in Asia Minor, not Wales.
