Wow, what an incredible unvarnished and candid review. This is the first critical review I've heard about Devialet Speakers. Every critique you made was logical and measured. Thank you. Kudos to you! I would love to hear a review from you about Bluesound Pulse 2i speakers too. Because of you, I just subscribed!

It is wireless and Ethernet connected. You not not have to use Bluetooth. They pair across their own Ethernet through the mains. As a pair you have a full range speaker in the space of a large desktop speaker. The volume level also goes up as a pair but they do not have to be driven anything near maximum. Support for PC and Mac was dropped along with Tidal as a built in app. You have to have Android or iOS to control and set it up.

You should have got two. But the price IS prohibitive. But to rate it alone in the way you are doesn't really do it justice. Two is astounding especially considering it's size to output ratio. It does sound quite good as a pair but there are options in that prohibitive price range that are better, but they tend to be space hogs. This can be placed easily in pairs and you won't need a sub to compensate for size. The Phantom is quite adequate in the bass department with a pair. Especially if you are in medium sized room. Large? As long as it isn't huge. Anyway. My two cents.

All the measurements I’ve seen show that the deep bass these have is impressively good. Unless u have the numbers to back up your criticism, your words have no weight. I do appreciate your detailed expose regarding the bass though.

he doesn't need to show measurements when his statements are factual. he is stating the obvious which you obviously didn't understand. take all the frequency response graphs you want showing that the base is exceptional, but that is a moot point when your choices of audio source is so restricted. A freq. response graph would accompany other information to put it in contacts. no way in the world is Devialet releasing measurement graphs if they were not using the best audio source. Paying attention to this review you would have known that that would have had to be an optical SPDIF source. what he's saying in this review is there is no point in having a portable speaker that doesnt give the best possible quality reproduction over a wireless source. There are lossless and (close to) lossless Bluetooth audio codecs that have been out for a couple years now and you can get in some of the cheapest Bluetooth speakers yet this massively expensive joke of "speaker" doesn't have that compatibility.. at the top it off, they have decided to not include the usual analog ports, ie: aux/line/RCA ports that would allow a user to actually achieve those freq. response graphs that you're quoting. Devialet is a company that claims to be run by audio engineers, but m guess is that the audio engineering takes second stage to the marketing team decisions. Richie Hawtin id an investor, but you don't see him praising this crap. it's a cash cow.. stop being a dumb consumer and start educating yourself

The speaker sounds amazing. In my opinion. Mono so it will not play everything accurately, but you buy two for true wireless stereo. Then it is superb. And they get updates too. Like all the speakers out there. So they will fix bugs and sound. They have their own app.

You have a point, Devialet has produced a consumer product, not an audiophile product. I have the original Phantom Gold, I know there are better speakers, that are cheaper (KEFs for an example), I bought the Devialet for its unique design and how it sat in my living room. Anyway, great insight.

Hello, great review. I think I have seen rca or something like wired connection to external device for it. Optical in is also an option in worst case. This is basically a device to play powerful low end with small size, but also with DSD like quality and wavy sound, unlike speakers that go just up and down(this bounce like deformed wheel). It's limited in size and reach of sub, unlike classic subs, those that move a lot. It's also mechanical so in low frequencies like 10hz it can be heard, it's also a wonder how it can move so much with it being so mechanical unlike thin paper of classic speakers. I listened to it and it can make sound like the plane going supersonic. Tweeter can make very true to reality vocals. So it can play such high quality from bluetooth stream, talk about great upscale tech. Most notable is that upscale in bass range where bass are not just thick, but sort of wavy. It felt like listening with my bassy earphones in ears, but it was the speaker on the table. There is however notable difference from silver to gold phantom, not just a power(I think they call it phantom I 105dB and 108dB or something simular). Top performer got titanium tweeter which makes that voices sound better. As for bass and volume, it certainly needs at least 60% volume to be somewhat loud. I didn't encounter it being sharp tho, but, given there is more options how to stream to this, EQing on some other device should be possible. Bass on top performer should be also the best. Happy listening.

@miguelbastos4988 I see, it's audio over hdmi, s0eakers got wireless and optical connection option, with rca through external device. Not sure if there is hw network connection, or if there is an adapter to convert signals from HDMI, but optical/rca is plenty of options to suit most. My super old plasma TV got optical and rca too. Tho when I play movie from pc over hdmi I mute TV and use jack from pc...
