Its actually kind of smart by the creators. In most indian based comedies, the older sister and smart cousin and cliche roles but with Kamala, it was a balanced blend. Pretty cool.

I have always had my senior as my biggest mentor and the elder sis I never had, the amount of encouragement and love she gave me is on the next lvl, it's not that I don't have a cousin or something but we haven't met for like 8 yrs or so but either ways, my senior is the only person I consider my sister even if we don't have the same blood at all 🥺

Most of the other Indian characters were born in India and lived there for most of their lives, while Devi was born in the U.S. So it makes sense that she has an American accent.
