I am a Pakistani and all aunties act exactly the same way. The only thing they missed here is that comment on your color and skin and suggest weird home remedies and fairness creams. And they also missed how they always ask for your grades. The grades thing changes over time from "what are your grades?" to "when are you getting married?". I mean once I dressed up a bit more for a party and all the aunties kept coming and asking my mom in front of me if i was engaged or if my parents were approached by the parents of a suitor for an arranged marriage.

I love how Netflix is starting to make coming of age shows and movies with more ethnic representation. If we look back to the early 2000s movies there isn't a lot of representation, and when there is it's in a very stereotypical way. It's refreshing to think that young girls can relate to Devi and other characters who are most likely going through the same cultural and household similarities.

All those criticizing here keep one thing in mind that even they are also humans. As an Indian even I have come across some unpleasant experiences but we don't know what struggles they went through in their life or are still going. See they had really different life than what we are having. They had to go through much more struggles and discrimination. Today the things that we take as unexpected and unbelievable were a norm back in their times even the things we take for granted today were a real luxury in those days so they actually never had the comfort that we have today. We need to be understanding, I know sometimes they can suck but it's not their fault it was the fault of the Society they grew up and lived in. Their society was not even half or quarter open or accepting. There are similar Uncles aswell. In short the society was like that. We new generation should be thankful for what we got. We literally got everything without doing anything, because of them. For old people its their second childhood so let them enjoy it. Do pls be understanding and humane with them and with everyone. Let's make our society understanding , humane and more accepting.
