Developing Found 126 film (Kodak Verichrome)

The film was found inside a Kodak Instamatic 700 126 film camera. it had been expired and i was really hoping for a better result, but unknowing of what the original owner took pictures of that is beyond me. the only thing said now is I hope you enjoy and don' forget to like comment and subscribe!.

126 film started in 1963 with the introduction of the Kodak Instamatic cameras. You need good hand strength to crack the plastic cartridges in the dark bag!

Haha I actually really loved this video. Did you mention how old the film was/ when it expired? I love your personality lol. Gonna check out some more of your vids! I found this pretty informative (and entertaining!)

My first camera was an Instamatic. Had fun with that camera. Great video.

Great video! I’ve been shooting expired 126 film recently and my first cartridge didn’t turn out. I’m planning on developing my other rolls myself soon so hopefully something comes out!

I recall using older Versions of Verichrome Pan film in the 1950's and later. If you couldn't get Plus-X Pan or Ilford FP4, that (somewhat) fitted the box and adjustable cameras, it was OK. I did use VP126 in a Minolta Autopak 700 in the 1970's, and I sorta miss it. Yep, Kodak's 126 format featured pre-flashed borders for photofinishers.

I have a few found films of 126 how did you get it out the canister in the changing bag? I’m struggling to find any information on how to best do this or shall I just destroy the canister to access the film

I have two rolls of 126 color neg film, I removed the rolls from the cartridges but it had like a leader covering the film. Would I have ruined the film doing this? Since then I wrapped the rolls in foil and have had them in my fridge for like a year. I'm not sure what to do with them. Get a B&W mono bath kit and develop them myself?? There isn't really anywhere i can send them. Would a B&M mono bath create B&M negs anyway? They were in a draw in the kitchen at my pops so they wouldn't have gotten too hot.

You have to twist the cartridge until it cracks. Then pry off the larger side of the cartridge that contains the exposed film. Do all this in a dark bag. Good hand strength is needed. Then unroll the film from its paper backing, and then feed into the 35mm sized reel. Good luck!

At 08:24 was the water 'deluded' or diluted'. If the latter, what do you dilute it with? By the way, it might be an idea to remove the label from the milk carton with the D76 in it.

Yeah I heard it I made the mistake, it was like 2 AM when I shot this. Trying to develop film in between work and college finds the time whenever to do something🤣

Does the film have the paper backing stuck to it, and if so how do you remove that? Does it just come off, like is it loose?

Yes the film has the paper backing on the backside, It’s really easy to remove once you get the case open just be careful not to cut yourself in the dark. As you’re pulling the film out, One side will have the paper backing taped on and then the other side will be just empty no tape it’ll fall right out. Check out My reloading 126 film video and it shows it more clearly.

@@Alexa_Spencer thanks man, I broke open the cartridge clumsily and had the tightly wound reel out of the case. Do you think that film will be ruined now? It was really tightly wound and I've kept it dark since. Really great informative videos. Cheers for the response too.

I would think a few of the frames would be ruined from being exposed to the light, but I am unable to say if it would be ok. The best thing I can say is to give it a shot with processing and hopefully you get results. If you shot it recently it produce some light leaks giving it some effect that some like. Give it a go and hopefully it works out, it’s part of the fun!
