Oh my God this brings back many memories: my girlfriend (later my wife) had an Instamatic 104 which used the 'Magicubes' flash cubes; then she bought me an X15. Both cameras got lost over the years and I would like to find a good example of either just for sentimental reason. So I will bookmark this video just in case I find a good working example of either so I can use 35mm film and be able to take photos.

I pestered my dad until he let me buy his Kodak x-15 camera. I loved that little camera, and like you, used to take it with me everywhere. Wish I never got rid of it. Many memories. Perhaps I might try that.

I enjoyed your post and appreciated your sense of humor and that you sped up some of the scenes (how many videos to we see that last twice as long because we have to watch procedures, like winding the film, for their entire duration. You "wondered" how the "magic" in MagiCubes happened...A little rod, extending out of the base of each bulb was coated with a "primer" material, much like that in ammunition.The base plate of each cube has four little springs, in a cocked position. When the shutter is released, a "firing pin" comes out of the camera, through a hole in the base of the cube and releases that spring so that it snaps against the primer rod and ignites the cube. Disassemble a cube and you'll easily see how this clever idea works. Thanks again for the video...it was FUN!

So glad I came across this video, I’ve started collecting the Kodak Instamatic Cameras, only have 5/6 but hope to get the full set eventually and have always wished I could shoot them but never thought it was possible. I hope I can find a cartridge and be able to to sort this out, I don’t process my own as I’ve only just started with film after 30+ years but if I shoot B&W film a friend said he would process them for me, I have a Dark Bag so that’s one thing I don’t need to worry about.

this is the first video i've seen where you keep the backing paper instead of putting the film in the canister alone. I inherited an instamatic 304 today with a cartridge in it and will definitely refer back to this video. the editing made me laugh a few times, too. keep up the good work :))

My first camera was an Instamatic. Now I can shoot it again! My local film developer will do taped rolls only if you tell them. Well they will do it once, then never do another roll of film from you again. Seems some tape came off in the processor and caused an expensive mess. They are the lab local law enforcement people use.

Probably easier when removing the exposed film in the "darkroom", once removed, roll the film up [ using white gloves at EVERY stage of the process to prevent any finger prints on the negative film ] and pop it into an all black film canister and click the top on, do not open !! send it for processing with a note or sticker saying " loose 35mm film". I have done none of this yet, but I am almost through an expired 126 roll of film, fingers crossed 😇😁🤪 excellent video, cheers.

Hi Mike, I found an X-15 at an antique shop for $4 and have been trying to get 35 mm through it since. There's a few different methods of course. I like this one due to the backing paper/numbers. I've found though, that when it advances the little pin inside will just tear through the sprockets that occupy the space where the holes are on the paper, and thus shred them at the start and end of the film. Is this just part of it or was there a way to avoid this? Was the 133 different from the X-15 in that respect?
@michaelraso
5 жыл бұрын
Some same model cameras were manufactured in different factories and therefore sometimes have slightly different parts. I haven't had too much problem with the X15 or the 133. Different films use different bases. For example, Kodak Double-X will rip easier than the Polyester base of Svema Foto 100 film.
@Exxcalibur186

@@michaelraso I see, this was just older Fuji Superia 400, maybe it got weaker over time. I may just have to go with the cut-and-roll method and do a double/triple advance (this oddly enough does NOT seem to affect the sprockets for some reason, only when I use the backing paper do they tear). Thanks for the reply!
