Glad you all are mentioning how rough Cat has been, both play and decision-making wise. He has absolutely 0 confidence compared to where he was to start the season. He couldn't miss a pass or shot in the first month of the season. Since basically December, he hits either a body, stick, or the goaltender in the middle of the chest. He missed that pass to Seider in OT the other day and I was screaming at my TV. His stick-handling, passing and decision making has been truly horrendous for a long stretch now. Hoping he gets into a rhythm, rolling into the playoffs to end the season . LGRW

Even though he isn't scoring goals, he's still one of our most productive forwards, funny enough. If he scored 40 this year, we're comfortably in the playoffs, I think.

I think his stick handling has been pretty solid but doesn’t matter when you’re supposed to be the guy scoring goals.

Teams have 82 games to get in the playoffs. If they can't get in by then, they don't deserve to get in.

I agree with Ryan the play in makes the regular season less interesting. Why did we play 82? A team in the play in could be 6 pts up on the team behind it. They were 3 games better and one game erases it all. Don’t like it.

10:23 if you examine the footage closely you can see Cirrelli's feet start to give out from underneath him before Larkin has a chance to apply any sort of sufficient pressure. I think the first non-goal was called exactly correctly.

Here in Finland, there are kinda play-ins before the actual playoffs, where the 7th and 10th team of the regular season play each other and 8-9 as well. They are called pity playoffs here and that says it all about their interest and appreciation. Any kind of gimmick to get additional teams into the "playoffs" reduces its value

Petry saved the puck (after 2 tries) from going in. He also chose to loft it back to the lightning defense to keep it in the zone instead of just icing it... Jeff Petry Takeith Away, Jeff Petry Giveith Back.

I can't see a play-in while the league is at 32 teams. I can see them tweaking the playoffs to add such a thing when expansion happens. In this way, I suppose one could say I'm taking the Elliotte Friedman position, but it makes the most sense IMO. Also, either nix the loser point or add the three point system. I'm happy Kostin is getting more minutes and more opportunities in SJ. I really liked the guy, I liked the energy he brought, I loved the toughness he brought... but if he wasn't fitting into the lineup, it's great to see Stevie found a place for him, and I'm sure it's something Kostin truly appreciates.

The Nashville game was ridiculous. They literally just sat 4 guys in front of the net the last 2 periods. They ran a 1-1-3 for 40 minutes. I fucking hate that team.

Larkin has had a weird habit of giveaways on offensive zone entrances the second half of the season, but he's heart and soul of this team. You don't cut out the heart and expect the team to do anything but fall apart.

There shouldn't be a point taken away if you pull the goalie in OT, loosing by empty net goal is enough punishment, might make OT more interesting.

I agree with Ryan, play-in makes the 82 games less meaningful. Tampa is the perfect example, they’ve played well enough to be comfortable in the 1st wildcard seed, they shouldn’t be able to be knocked out by a 10 seed or whatever because they were cold for 2 games before the playoffs would start. Brad’s argument for more money, good for nhl, meh, they could make lots of money just making the game easier to watch/access for their favorite teams. There’s absolutely no reason a person can’t pay for a package to watch ALL of their teams games. People would pay a decent amount of money to watch all their teams games unrestricted. Maybe this is a separate issue, but they’ve already implemented so many extra ways for money to be made, do something for the viewer.

Fav Red Wings history other than my first game we destroyed Vancouver 9-2 is Igor's triple overtime winner. I was at the last shootout in the Joe to witness Svechnikov score his first NHL goal that didn't count in the shootout beating Craig Anderson and the Sens. Also Sheahan scoring his first 2 goals of the season on the last game and Z getting the W in career game 1000! Those last home wins were poetry.

That moving Larkin comment was a real bad take. I would assume they r the same people who said Larkin wasnt worth 8+ million a year because he isnt a first line center or a goal scorer. Its almost like the guy hasnt watched this team this year. Every bad losing streak the Wings had this year, Larkin was injured.

42:55 3-2-1 system would change absolutely nothing in the Atlantic standings, although, I guess FLA would overtake BOS on a regulation win tiebreaker. As far as wildcard changes; Detroit would be tied with PIT, but lose in a tie breaker, so we'd be 2 spots out of the second WC spot. That's about it... There's some more tied scores here and there, but those are the only notable changes. The magic and mythical 321 system is seen from a bad angle, most people think their team would just soooaar up the rankings. But the OT wins and losses wouldn't change. At. All. Still get 2 for winning, still get 1 for losing. And the Islanders example only look at them having a lot of OT losses. How do you think a new system would change that? Where do you think those OTL's came from? The teams that couldn't beat them in regulation STILL get 2 points, and Islanders STILL get 1 in both systems! They would drop in the 321 standings, but that's NOT because they have a lot of OTL's, it's because they have too many OTW's. And I see the argument ; "hurr durr, this would motivate teams to win in regulation, because right now they have no motivating factor to win in reg". Really?! You don't think they're trying to win already?! Games going into OT aren't because the winning teams just don't feel like winning in regulation that day, they go into OT because the losing team push and fight back. Teams and players play to win because that directly affects their financial success. It's their jobs. And a 321 system doesn't REWARD a team for winning in reg much more than it already does, but it heavily penalizes the losing teams. Especially when they have a vested interest in winning. Your team has the lead by 1 against a division rival, it's 10 minutes left in the game, and the opponents make a mad scramble and manage to get a goal and tie it up. Now at what point do you RISK a 6 point swing, rather than safeguard at least 1 point making it a 2 point swing either way? The loser point is rewarded for fighting back and climbing back into the game vs a team that's already beating you. If that point "magically appears", then so does every point, why should a winning team get points just for beating another team? Why should they get more if they do it faster? They just "magically appear" at the end of the game even though the losing team beat the winning team 3/4 times in a series. And lastly; we've seen this before. When the SHL adopted the 321 system from their old 3 for win, 1 for tie, 0 for loss system, they initially saw a huge upswing in regulation finishes...for 1 season... And every season since has trended to twice(or more) as many OT games as before, and way less goals per season. If you can protect a lead and get the 3 points, great! If the other team catches up, it's better to secure 1, potentially 2, than risk 0 and falling way further behind.

I forgot tanking teams; imagine schmonnor schmedard comes along, next generational talent, every team wants him. It's a 321 system. Sens have been consistently worst in divisions. It's late February -early March, suddenly Sens shoot up, all the way to third in the division out of absolutely nowhere. What happened? Well they had a string of actively tanking teams feeding them 3 points, so deserving teams are pushed down because Sens got lucky. Dogwater.
