Love it, I’m in the middle of a Cummins V-378 transplant into my 68 4x4 f350 flatbed build. It’s to paint now but the engine kept running worse and worse, with huge amounts of blow by after putting new injectors into it. Got another lined up from a log skidder since the whole truck was built around that engine, before I do an autopsy.

Love that Detroit sound. I was young and remember listening to skidders running Detroits at night when the ground was the most frozen. Thanks sawed off frenchman. You need to tame your fear of sparks. Make that connection and don’t be a Willard about it. Don’t be stunned.

I lugged an old school peterbilt down hauling potatoes and yep it started running backwards before I got the clutch pushed in and there was a lot of white smoke coming out the air filters lol you forget where the key is to shut it off when you’re in a wicked hurry, fired right back up

You'd have to build a super truck. Get yourself a medium duty frame with front and rear axles, and at least a 5+2 Spicer trans, then shorten the frame and driveshaft, and stick a decent cab and box on it with a shitton of frame lift, lol. Be fucking sweet though!

Any of the 53s or 71s were awesome engines. They could have bad blower seals and a rod hanging out the side of the block and with a little either they would start and run every time.

@anthropicandroid4494 Awesome, big boy!! Yep, straight 4sp trans, but a single speed rear end with a no-spin locker. The 477 has 253hp, and is ridiculously torquey, i cant imagine the 534! Mine has less than 40k miles, it used to be a fire truck. I have videos of it on here if you want to check it out. You are correct, parts are scarce as people that even now these exist. It's the bigfoot of ford engine families.. haha Had some of my wifes family telling me it doesn't exist, saying it's either 429 or 460... nope, 401,477,534.

@@fruitfarmfords8243 at least the Holly carb is just a Holly carb! The 534 has little more HP, if any, but yeah that torque makes it fast, for a truck. Mine was also a fire truck--Van Pelt--but the tank is full of rust and the compound pump hasn't been run in years. Seriously considering pulling both and replacing with plastic+a light duty pump, just for hauling water or putting out grass fires. I'll look to your channel for tips, and will comment on one once I upload a vid of the old girl! That rear no-spin is pretty good off-road, but I've heard horror stories about understeer in rainy/wet conditions. Haha, and in a COE no less!
