    I found that it is a lot easier to take out those small plastic inserts covering the screws if you use a scoring tool with a sharp point rather than a small screwdriver. It also does less damage to the trim.

    DISCLAIMER!! I just watched this video and thought it was a great explanation. Very straight forward. HOWEVER!! Not all doors are created equal! I just did one for a client and there was no caulking securing the glass in place. As soon as I removed the screws, the glass panel started free falling!! Luckily i was fast enough to catch it without it shattering into a million pieces. Very dangerous if the glass panel is not caulked in place. This video is no good if it is not caulked in place. Be careful out there.

    @@roadglassandmore9064 The one I removed and the one that the client purchased both had rubber weatherseal on the inside of the outside trim so no silicone caulk is needed. The glass that was replaced was the original from the factory and hadn't ever been replaced.

  • @roadglassandmore9064

    Hi, is the grid on the outside or in between the glass? If it’s in the glass just make sure to order new glass with matching grid. If it’s on the outside then it should come off in one piece after you remove the screws ( like I did in the video). Also glass in doors has to be tempered ( tempered glass shutters, doesn’t crack) unless your door has laminated glass ( for security/ wind protection?) but anyway if it’s just cracked just leave it don’t break it out, but make sure you wear gloves!

    Thank you! I bought a home where they must have used too much silicon and it oozed out on the exterior side of the window b/c now it’s all dirty and grimy from years of weather exposure. Is there anything I can do to clean it? Or do I have to take the window out and start over?

    You can try to scrape excess silicone off with a flat blade , and rag with denatured alcohol.

    Friend, I need to replace mine and was hoping to find out how to measure the glass so I can order ... Do I measure the outside of the frame or the glass itself, because mine is measuring 65.5" x 21.75" if I measue the frame. Thanks for any help. :)

    Hi, so if you door is the same as in this video, the glass size always an even number no fractions. It should be 22” x 66” and there are 2 overall thickness 1/2 “ is very common but I also have seen 1” So try this, measure the day light meaning just the visible glass part what you can see, and add 1” to that size. Let me know if you have questions .

    Thank you for tthis video... My dogs have pounded the glass on one of my French doors. The glass is ok but the plastic molding is shot. Should I be able to replace this trim that holds the glass in the door? Maybe from a DIY Big Box store? Will I need silicone caulk or glass glue IF I can find the molding?

  • @roadglassandmore9064

    @roadglassandmore9064

    4 ай бұрын

    You should be able to order plastic molding from big box stores, the only thing is you have to know the glass thickness, it’s either 1/2 or 1”. And yes you will need clear silicone to seal one side glass to plastic molding, just like in the video.

    I am experiencing water leakage into the interior portion of the door. I do not believe it is related to the sill. It only happens when there is significant rain blasting the exterior windows. I have noticed dripping from the corners of the interior window panes of both doors (french setup). It appears to drip downwards into the sill area making it appear that it is coming from the sill. The door is steel. I put tape on the exterior portion of the door windows (lower) to confirm that the water is coming in via a possible broken seal between the glass and the frame. I think the tape will prevent water from getting at the seals. Has anyone experienced leakage similar to this? The next step is to remove the panes and reseal.

  • @roadglassandmore9064

    I have never seen these French doors leak around the glass, the only thing I can think off is that the glass was replaced at some point in the past and wasn’t sealed properly. I would pull the glass out and reseal it . But be really careful when removing the glass not scratch it or break it, use very thin putty knife.

  • @dennisbrancato6121

    @@roadglassandmore9064 This was a new door installed 2014. The home was built from scratch and the builder put it in. That doesn't mean that the seal isn't broken, but I will have to remove the frame supporting the glass to find out. I have resealed the exterior joints on the sill but that didn't stop the water. Problem is engineered hardwood floor is edged out at the door and absorbing the water causing dry rot damage. This particular flooring is not available anymore so a solution must be found. An overhang protects the door from most moisture, but when a storm comes through, the rain goes horizontal and the overhang isn't effective. Once again, I noticed water dripping downwards from the interior corners of the glass at the bottom of the door leaking onto the floor so, my suspicion is the seal around the glass.

    Double pane Is roughly about $6 a square foot for annealed ( regular glass) and about $7-8 a square foot for tempered (which is required in doors) that’s from local glass supplier here in Sacramento but if you go to a regular glass shop the will usually mark up the cost of the glass a little (about 10%)
