Love the reaction and this is what I’ve been telling ppl Mushoku tensei is the best anime I’ve come across in the last 2 decades it been a long time since I’ve come across story telling character world building this well written and after reading all the novels it really solidified it self as my number 1 anime of all time I recommend the novel they go so much more in depth 🗣️💯

100% agree. Before I read the original web novels of this, my taste in anime was a bit different, considering my favorite anime was Fairy Tail. But after I read the web novels of this series, and heard about the anime adaptation, I knew this would easily replace Fairy Tail as my favorite, and it wouldn’t even be close. And this episode(along with the things you mentioned) is a great example of why. This story just hits different.

An additional layer to Paul's line to Rudeus from his backstory in Paul Gaiden, which *could be counted as spoilers* : Paul's mother died of her weak constitution getting the better of her when he was 11. His father and brother both blamed him for it, since she kept visiting his room when he was under house arrest to console him, sapping her strength further. She was the only person he ever truly loved and felt loved by for much of his life. When he met Zenith, he started noticing how similar she was to his mother. When he told her his story, he told her what he'd been looking for was someone who'd wholeheartedly love him for who he was, like his mother did. Zenith proved to be that, falling in love with this wild man who was still but a vulnerable broken youngster who misses his mother so terribly. So not only is he telling Rudeus to put everything on the line to save his mother, he is telling himself to put everything on the line to save the living reminder of his own mother.

MEGA FATALITY for Rudeus. Arm, father, mother (kind of), happiness left the group.

11:35 Rotting isn't the reason they burned Paul. It's mana. Everything in that world has mana, and when something gains enough mana, it becomes a monster. Trees become treants, areas with enough concentrations of mana become labyrinths, animals become monsters... and corpses become undead. Paul would've turned into a Zombie if he was left unburned, and his bones would've become a Skeleton if they weren't crushed. Rudeus hasn't left any carcass unburned and the smell of burnt human flesh is familiar to him.

I Heard from my LN friend some missing context regarding Pauls relationship with his mom and his grief and regret unable to save her. When he told Rudy to save her even if he were to die was Paul's childhood regrets talking to Rudy. My heart was already shaking at that point before hearing him say that what Paul wanted to say the first time Rudy interrupted him was "I'll save you even if it kills me" he told Rudy Save your mom even if it kills you and I'll save you even if it kills me. My hearts wrenching this, especially after listening to the MT Volume 12 Drama CD. I recommend looking for it just by typing that in, it lets us hear Paul's last thoughts....

You picked up on the all the flags in the show and the hints we have been tossing you just like Rudy is picking up all the hints with Roxy! LOL

Gotta love that they killed him on Fathers Day of all days.

I’ve read the entire story back when it was just web novels, and reread it as light novels, and I can’t agree with you more. Seeing it animated makes it hit harder. I can’t even imagine how hard Turning Point 4 is gonna hit.😳

16:30 This damn scene in the novel crushed my heart so bad that I literally just put down my phone and lied down to process my feelings with teary eyes. Seeing Paul's corpse as Rudeus, who's barely hanging on to his sanity afterwards, and only hoping that he could at least share his grief with both Lilia and Zenith, just to get this result. I don't think I can handle that.

Paul isn't strong enough to cut that head (because of the scales) so the one that able to cut the scales was his new Legendary sword. That sword gonna cut harder thing like butter but will be opposite like cut butter like it's some kind of "vibranium" or something. Just trivia that left out in anime. "Happy" father's day...

Also another thing: he got it for dirt cheap because the merchant didn't know what he had on his hands, but Paul knew immediately because a similar sword was featured in _The Legend of Perugius_ Luke's longsword is a similar weapon.

I wish they added one sentence that Lilia said in the novels about Zenith which was something like "I'm afraid Zenith is no longer all there." Which means that two people basically died today, both his parents. "What was it all for?" Such a tragic episode.

I know, right? To write off a story just because you don’t like the main character is silly, and this show proves that. It’s an emotional roller coaster like no other. I knew this was coming the whole time, since I read the web/light novels, and yet, it still hit like a freight train. Just imagine how hard Turning Point 4 is gonna hit. I might not survive that episode.😅

I dunno if it’s “worse”, but it’s still pretty bad. I guess that depends on who you ask. Honestly though, Zenith is one of the most heartbreaking characters in the show because of what happened to her here.

@@Hawkcam1996 yes it's heartbreaking. She's essentially in a waking dream like state. She'll never be able to speak, express emotions, or take care of herself. Her body is a prison for her clouded mind. The only positive is future kids will have the telepathic magic of roxies people so they will be able to directly communicate with her. Considering how impaired zenith is can we consider truly alive at all? And had they retreated and considered zenith lost or tried to get more allies. Could Paul have lived? Would it not be better for Paul to have lived as a fully functional father and grandfather? What will norn think? I think she's gonna want her dad back over zenith. And functionally let's weigh what was gained vs what was lost. Roxy was saved. Zenith was saved but she's not functional. This are the gains. Cons. Rudy lost a hand. Paul's dead. Rudy is hit with more trauma. Norn is going to be massively emotionally hit. There's probably more long term stuff I'm not even thinking of.

If you’re an anime only, don’t read this. Contains spoilers. Knowing what we know about Man God down the line, I retroactively interpreted that “you will regret it” ‘warning’ as a *threat* instead of a warning. And I think he was lying when he claimed everything would’ve turned out better if Rudy didn’t go. That faceless freak is *ruthlessly* manipulative.
