It wasn't like they were aiming at a legitimate target of war and the bullet ricocheted and killed the hostages by mistake. The IDF knew they were shooting unarmed non-combatants waving a white flag. The "mistake" was that the IDF believed they were butchering Palestinian non-combatant civilians with a white flag in violation of the Geneva convention but those innocents they executed actually happened to be hostages.

Years later, they attacked again and lost even more land. Your knowledge of International Law seems to be lacking! In this case it's obvious that Israel killed these innocent men deliberately, it was not an accident, it was not cross fire or a bombing and these men were in the wrong place. They were a few steps from safety - or so they thought, and then they were deliberately engaged and killed on the spot or hunted down and killed. I have sympathy for innocent people on both sides and I have no sympathy for the wrong doers on both sides. I hope all this is resolved soon, and the only way we can get to some version of a lasting peace for everyone is to call out and address the wrongs on both sides. We all want a lasting peace, that's the only outcome that works for everyone, and we get there by calling things out as they are, so let's speak the truth no matter how painful and tragic.

This is shameful reporting. Why not give the full facts? The 3 hostages were shirtless, so it was visible that they did not have suacide vests. They were waving a white flag with no weapons, so could not be considered as a threat to a fully equipped combat soldier and were shot and killed. One of them was only wounded and made it to a building where a IDF soldier from a different unit followed him inside and although the hostage asked for help in hebrew he was finished off. The killing of people waving a white flag is yet another war crime. This shows that the Israelis are operating a SoP of shoot to kill anything that moves and not under any rules of enagement. It's ridiculous for Israel to claim their soldiers were "not following protocols" or "not following rules of engagement" : their whole operation constitutes multiple breaches of International Law and internationally recognised Laws of War. Besides, the Israelis they shot , by evidence available to them, had white flags of surrender - even if they believed they were "HAMAS-Isis" (as they like to call the) it is a war crime to shoot someone who is surrendering. The rules of war clearly set the boundaries of combat. A soldier who has surrendered or who is wounded is outside them. Attacking a combatant who has surrendered is murder and the same also applies to attacking a combatant who has been wounded and has ceased to pose a threat to our forces.

I see you tried to avoid the subject - the Israeli army committing war crimes by taking no prisoners. Oct 7 did not start in a vacuum. Hamas did not start the war, it started in 1948 when 750,000 Palestinians were expelled from Palestine by the Jewish colonists. Israel has blockaded Gaza and had it under siege for over 15 years. Gaza has variously been described as the worlds biggest concentration camp and an open air prison. Try and imagine the situations reversed, with the imprisoned population being Jewish. According to you they should just accept their situation and be quiet.

Both Additional Protocols to the 1949 Geneva Conventions impose an obligation upon state parties to refrain from making a person who has expressed an intention to surrender the object of attack.

This is so tragic. Israel needs a different strategy. Hamas has no incentive to release the hostages, especially if that means their death. This war is in a quagmire leading to the death of many civilians, Palestinians and Israeli soldiers. If they had white flags it should not have mattered whether they were Hamas or not. Is this what will happen if Hamas surrender? This war is in a quagmire they need to change strategy.
