I remember as a kid this song coming out and loving it but the kids at my school hated it, so being a wuss, I pretended not to like it just to “fit in.” I would go home and listen to “Dynasty,” over and over. My favorites: “Charisma,” “Sure Know Something,” and “Hard Times.”

HAHA same here , I thought the song was awesome. I think I was 9 yrs old when it came out. Herd mentality is definitely a thing. At 9yrs old though KISS was already kind of cheeky with all the make up stuff. I didn't ever take them too seriously. This wasn't like Slayer suddenly coming out with a song called "Dancing Queen" by Abba. This was band with dudes in make up and high heels, they were always kind of "gay" to me. Especially Paul.

"Hard Times" is one of my favorites as well. I am a guitar player and in the 1980s my band played both "Hard Times" & "Rip It Out" my drummer was a huge Kiss fan & I especially liked the songs done by Ace. Great songs!! I remember liking Dynasty as well but didn't care what others thought. I was/am a Rush "Geek" so everyone hated what I was into anyway.

Same exact thing happened to me. I discovered Kiss in a true way later in life. I wasn’t allowed to listen to them in the 1980s when I was a kid. Too many adults around me thought they were devil worshipers and said their name stood for Kids in Satan’s Service. No lie. They really thought that. Anyway, one day I was listening to hard rock songs on my Amazon echo and that one came on and I was hooked. I started really listening to their albums and found song after song that really hit. They’re actually a great band.

Paul and Desmond Child were "revolutionary". Schoolgirls who were taught, Rockmusic is dirty and primitive, all of a sudden at parties asked for KISS "I Was Made..." It was #2 in the charts. Guys who didn't want "Disco" were told: IT'S A LOVESONG. This song opened the doors for the acceptance of Rockbands. Paul/Desmond/Vini Poncia wrote a brilliant💎song.

Gene Simmons is crafty. In 1982, Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance wrote a song. They thought they gave Simmons a finished copy. But, he said no 👎 and added a 3rd verse. Thus, Rock and Roll Hell is listed as "written by Bryan Adams, Jim Vallance and Gene Simmons ". Adams and Vallance got schooled 🏫. But, they were younger, thus, more naive. Desmond Child hit it bigger in 1986, writing with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora, and in 1987, writing with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. Bon Jovi and Aerosmith albums were recorded in Little Mountain Sound ⛰ Studios 🎙, Vancouver, Canada 🇨🇦. Produced by the late Bruce Fairbairn, RIP, and engineered by Bob Rock.

Unfortunately, as far as "revolutionary" you got Trevor Rabin in 1977 with a song called Love Life, which melded classical, rock, disco and then reggae in its outro. Granted, it was not a hit, but he went into that territory, and IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A HIT. PS - "I don't think I saw that many teeth in my lifetime." Desmond Child is a funny dude.

Kiss secured management in 1974 and cashed their first million in late'75 when Alive! sold big. Beth and I Was Made For Lovin' You were the original band's big songs. Management found it more and more difficult to keep the band together and in 1979 it imploded when drummer Peter Criss was fired. After several line up changes, in 1990 Kiss hit the Top 40 with powerballad, Forever.

It was around 1991/92 that Gene came up with the armed guards shtick when interviewed about promoting Revenge... the Desmond Child reference meant they had (again) got back to edgier stuff... : / HEY, IN THE PICTURE OF THE ALBUM "THE ELDER"? THERE IS A PICTURE OF DRUMMER ERIC CARR, AND THAT IS NOT THE RIGHT ALBUM COVER FOR THAT ALBUM. PETER CRISS WAS THE ORIGINAL DRUMMER IN THE 70s AND FOR THAT ALBUM.

Eric Carr was the drummer on Elder, Peter was out of the band by 1981. Criss hadn't played drums on a KISS record since 79's Dynasty (only one song, Dirty Livin'). He is credited as drummer on Unmasked in 1980 but it's Anton Fig on drums.

I understand that Desmond Child is a talented pop writer, but it all sounds a bit too cookie cutter, especially the 80's hits after I was made... I still very very much prefer the heavier more aggressive style of Gene Simmon's songs

"I was made..." sounds like a crummy over-hyped, overplayed disco / rock track, far from anything Motown. As far as Kiss goes, they were in the right place at the right time. A very business savy band. As far as talent they're very shallow and crude imo. I never reach for Kiss (even though I have just a couple albums lying around) when I'm in the mood to listen to classic rock. There are FAR too many better bands out there that get my attention.

It’s mixing that Desmond Child has made so much money from writing some of the worst songs ever recorded. Anytime I hear a shitty song that sounds dated and cheesy from the 80’s and 90’s it can almost be assured that it was written by Desmond Child, this song was the beginning of that schlock.
