#1 Chair ( you might as well get a good one since you don't want to be uncomfortable ) #2 Desk ( for potential more desk space ) #4 Monitor ( you're looking at it, might as well get a good one, for me a single ultra-wide is my goal ) #5 A Foot rest ( trust me get a sling one, it's awesome ) #6 Not necessarily your setup but your environment. Paint your room, get some rugs or redo your floor. Add some greenery, maybe some lights? Or maybe less lights? So then get a blackout curtain or tint/blur your windows. It's all about experimenting. Trial and error.

Not only is your setup peaceful; so was your presentation. I have been looking at quite a few setup videos today as I am am looking to create my own; however the presentation of some of them set me on edge lol. You returned me to a happy place.

It's interesting to see over the years how the design and organization of the setup has to do not only with the functional aspects but also with everything related to aesthetics. Right now, I'm trying to configure the ideal setup for me, not only in the functional sense, but also as a reflection of my style. I just ordered a Protractor desk from Manhattan Home Design and am trying to make the perfect gadget selection for me. Thanks for sharing these tips! 🙌🥂✨

Just looked up that desk. It costs as much as my PC build lol. I'm happy with my Autonomous standing desk I got for $100 via a price mistake, but that desk looks beautiful. I guess a good desk will last much longer than a PC build, so splurging makes sense. Enjoy.

Great video - I've been wanting to upgrade my art studio space. Currently I just have a drafting table and drawing tools next to me on a TV tray. For lighting I'm just using a floor lamp. My setup is pretty low tech. Yes I agree - the chair is the most important part of your setup. I was using the original chair that came with this drafting table, its 20 years old. I couldn't sit here for very long it was killing my back. I got a new chair a few years ago. It has made such a huge difference - Thanks for the info.

Opting to mount a soundbar the width of my monitor, under it when I do my new build. I feel even the speakers taking up shelf space is too cluttered for me now. The older I get the more minimalistic I like spaces it seems.

I 100% agree with this. I criticised this content creators setup because I thought the speakers were disproportionately large. I’m looking for a small sound bar like you, for a more professional/less gamer setup. Did you happen to find one you’d recommend?
For monitor arms, make sure your table top can handle the pressure, even with a widened plate, my cheaper ikea table top gets pressed in with a dual monitor stand, and need to reinforce it before i can upgrade to a better and sturdier table top.

Really good!
I'm filtering through a lot of office/desk setup videos to help get an idea of what I want. Your review of the chair was great and I truly could use some lumbar support for when I'm working. I also need bigger screens or to learn to zoom in more because I lean forward due to my vision. This then defeats the purpose of any lumbar support (not that my current chair has any anyways). The whole fad with the racer chairs are aesthetic, but I'm not the right body type for them, they're hella expensive, and don't seem to offer the support functions a regular office chair provides. I didn't think I wanted monitor arms as well, but the more I think about it, especially as I'm going to need to share my space with two laptops (the one my job lets me use and the other is my personal computer), the more flexibility will be important. Having a large monitor on an arm that I can bring forward to help my vision would be nice. Your office is really beautiful, thank you for sharing this! And lastly, if you made it through this ramble (sorry about that, lol), where did you get the wood panels? Not sure I could install something similar in my apartment without damaging the walls, but they look really nice.

Ideas: - *Exercise resistance bands* : for your breaks away from the computer, push ups and body weight exercises are not enough anymore for me since I have been doing them for a while now. - *Wacom drawing tablet* : I love taking notes by hand or sketching out ideas. On paper i tend to lose things, and doing that with a mouse is so much harder. (I see you're an architect, I don't know if you have one, if not maybe useful for you too) - *Kindle / eReader* : If only they weren't so expensive, I don't feel comfortable buying a used on from eBay since it's linked to amazon accounts don't want to get owned. But a budget tablet could also work.

Instant credibility when you mentioned the chair as the first essential upgrade. A really good chair should be considered an investment if you spend hours each day in it. After much research, I just bought a used Steelcase Leap V2 today to replace one that's nice to look at but is killing my body because it isn't ergonomic and has very little adjustment. I've been looking into some speakers, but haven't made up my mind just yet, and the lights are a nice touch as well. Good list.
@JonImperial

Thank you so much! Hope you like the Leap V2! 😊
I am probably incredibly alone in that, but I despise minimal Desk setups with a Passion, since I have a fear of large rooms. This is a thing, you can look that up. Having minimalistic space actually creeps me the heck out, so I really enjoy my Desk crammy, but with near optimal space usage. :D But from my personal experience I can add to the Video that there is one thing I found out had improved my setup like literally nothing else before it: A Laptop. Having a secondary, completely own Machine besides my main PC is handy for SOO many things. It may not be entirely relatable when you never tried it, but hot damn, as a QA Tester and Editor this is coming in clutch in many situations.

Nice video; especially like the cable mgmt ideas. An additional audio add is a mini amp and Dac. If you’re into quality sound it’s definitely worth the investment. I have a Topping 30 Dac and a Fosi bt20a mini amp (wired speaker set up), but there are lots of options for both. Huge improvement to my average speakers. Small footprint for both items (stackable).

Nice set up. but looks more like a show case not an actual work place. Clean desk increases productivity for sure. Good job. Not many realize the whole room/office set up becomes more costly than the system itself. Then add IT tech support etc. ;-) For cable managements, you can also purchase a cheap PVC "cable trunking" tubes or "cord hider" tubes, cut them in needed sizes, stick them under the desk (with double tapes or screws). And I am always told not to tidy up the cables too much because they create electro magnetic field - snakes can burn down a studio, fire up an office, or blow up your precious newly cleaned up desktop system. So keep them lose and scattered, and cover up with a huge ... blockage of sort.

Next I realised I wanted more light, bought a xiaomi lightbar. Now I have quite some cables from the audio gear on the desk. Gonna make a deskshelf to my personal taste. The ones online I either don't like or find too expensive. I'd rather buy a new tool for those prices and make it myself learning as I go. Hi Jon great stuff as always. I know when it comes to monitors color calibration is a bit of a challenge especially when using a Mac. That said, ultra wides provide so much real estate that it's hard to by-pass. What was your reason for switching to the Studio display? I ask as it appeared you really enjoyed working on your Dell Ultra-wide. Did you feel like you were missing anything? I'm contemplating a change either from my LG 34 that came with a great ergonomic stand to two Apple studio displays or adding the LG Dual-up to my current setup to enhance my Photo/Video and flight navigation software. Also don't know for sure but I think the studio monitor only comes as a 27". I was looking into a 32" from Apple and it appears the Pro XDR might be the only choice at a much higher cost. (Not ready to sell a kidney just yet) Also hear Apple may be coming out with a newer option which tells me the size/clarity may improve, however the Apple tax we all have to pay may increase as well. Any thoughts? Thanks again.

At the time, it was the picture quality, speakers and webcam that sold me. 32” or 34” UW is definitely the sweet spot though. I saw a new BenQ 32” monitor and Samsung should be coming out with a Studio Display competitor. Not sure if it’s already out.

@@JonImperialwhat about 29?
On chairs, I've owned almost all of the most recommended and expensive office chairs, Aeron, Cosm, Embody, Gesture... I'm a bigger guy, 6'3 250 with longer arms, so even with the Gesture that actually fit me unlike the Herman Millers, I ended up slouching. I since then have had a custom bench made for me, so I can sit in a variety of different positions without a backrest. I haven't looked back since. If I wanted to only relax at my desk it might be different, but for work and certain games you really want to be engaged, so active sitting is superior.

Solid insight. 👊🏾
Looks very nice! I'm also curious what shelves you're using to the right of the desk.

It’s a ladder shelf from Amazon. The one I have is discontinued but here’s a similar one amzn.to/3tNWqfQ

Like the recommendations. Great video. Just wondering what are the desk pads you are using (somewhere at the end of you video you have one with some cable management options) ?

Vivo makes a great monitor light bar for about $40 if the BenQ is out of your budget. I have been using it for over a year now and have liked it so well I purchased a second one for my work setup.
Hi ! Do you have the ref of the lighting on the wall at 7:09 ? Thank you 😁
Where did you buy that black box/case shown in the right bottom corner around 4:02? Thanks for a great video🎉
