Design Your Life | Diane von Furstenberg | TEDxVeniceBeach
Just 18 months before Diane von Furstenberg was born, her mother was a prisoner at Auschwitz Concentration Camp. As the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, DVF vowed from a young age to be in control of her own destiny, to create her own freedom. She went on to found one of the most recognizable brands and dress styles in fashion. She's a designer, mogul, an icon, and a woman for whom 70 is just the beginning of the next chapter in life. In this talk, DVF shares stories and lessons from her life, and encourages us all to find our power and connect to those around us. Diane von Furstenberg entered the world of American fashion in the seventies, when she arrived in New York from Europe with a suitcase full of Italian jersey dresses she had designed. Her iconic wrap dress soon became a symbol of power and independence for an entire generation of women. Today, DVF is a global luxury fashion brand celebrated for its creative and chic effortlessness and its bold approach to color and print. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

"The most important relationship in life is the one you have with yourself. After that every other relationship is a plus."
"Don't wait for a tragedy to know that you are strong."
"If you doubt your power, you give power to your doubts."
If you focus on force you will fail or break........
"what kind of a woman do I want to be in my third act. How do I stay relevant?" - Powerful!
the way she talked emits such a sense of richness, joy and vitality. delightful as it is enlightening. I want to listen to this talk many times. Thank you for sharing.
Finally ! A real woman like her, confident and beautiful inside out passing her knowledge to the world ! I am so happy that she decided to share her experiences with us..
She keeps the flame and the memory of her mom intact. Never forget those tragic events... Outstanding integrity and Business Woman. DVF for President hahahah
I'm putting on makeup rn and almost burst into tears when she said, "by giving you life, you gave me my life back."
Fascinating woman and life. She's two years older than I am and I've been watching her and following her career and life ever since the early 1970s when I worked as a fashion illustrator in NYC. Love the story of her incredible mother as well! Thanks for sharing~
She's a gem. So full of childlike passion
That frank revelation of self should have got a standing ovation!
This woman is amazing. I met her in 1999 at FIDM. She was a very gracious person and signed my copy of "Diane - A Signature Life". It is fantastic that she generously shares her experiences with people.
Sure enough, 9 months later, I was born and I was not normal ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
“The most important relationship is the one with yourself, the others are a plus & not a must”, well said!
"If you focus on force, you will fail or brake. If you focus on energy, you will stagnate. But if you FOCUS on INTENTION and think about it a lot, you will achieve your goals and your power."
Diane's mother; what she went through and survived, would've scared a Navy Seal. In other words; the mom was a badass, in the best sense of the term.
This was a powerful speech. I love her now wtf!
This talk so deseved a standing ovation
What an amazing woman. I will listen to this every time I feel lost or need life advice.
