Design Your Life | Diane von Furstenberg | TEDxVeniceBeach

Just 18 months before Diane von Furstenberg was born, her mother was a prisoner at Auschwitz Concentration Camp. As the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, DVF vowed from a young age to be in control of her own destiny, to create her own freedom. She went on to found one of the most recognizable brands and dress styles in fashion. She's a designer, mogul, an icon, and a woman for whom 70 is just the beginning of the next chapter in life. In this talk, DVF shares stories and lessons from her life, and encourages us all to find our power and connect to those around us. Diane von Furstenberg entered the world of American fashion in the seventies, when she arrived in New York from Europe with a suitcase full of Italian jersey dresses she had designed. Her iconic wrap dress soon became a symbol of power and independence for an entire generation of women. Today, DVF is a global luxury fashion brand celebrated for its creative and chic effortlessness and its bold approach to color and print. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Fascinating woman and life. She's two years older than I am and I've been watching her and following her career and life ever since the early 1970s when I worked as a fashion illustrator in NYC. Love the story of her incredible mother as well! Thanks for sharing~

This woman is amazing. I met her in 1999 at FIDM. She was a very gracious person and signed my copy of "Diane - A Signature Life". It is fantastic that she generously shares her experiences with people.

Diane's mother; what she went through and survived, would've scared a Navy Seal. In other words; the mom was a badass, in the best sense of the term.
