    I agree. Definitely the 3 things you mentioned to upgrade are well worth it. I saw someone else say not to do it but as you said why would you want to walk in and start doing major work.

    I have also seen people say that but in my personal opinion I wouldn’t want to delay my move in and start ripping off brand new stuff so I rather have it done before.

    Mountains?! I just came across your channel today, so not sure what state you're in. But definitely agree that you'll have an amazing view. I'm in TX, & am currently on the new build journey too. Since you seemed unsure how other builders do things, here's some of my story: We went under contract for a new build 1st wk of March. The contract did list the additional cost of the structural upgrades we chose. And the lot premium. We went with a standard lot size of 7,800sq ft, which was $11k. Houses are supposed to be 20ft apart from each other. With our buillder, we get 2 design center appts. The 1st one is tomorrow afternoon, 3 hrs long. 2nd one is the 20th, & is 1 hr long. We also have one 90min electrician appt this Thursday. Our view behind our house will be greenbelt, one neighbor on each side. Past the neighbor on the right, the view is a private farm/ranch, past the neighbor on the left, the view is a bridge. Since we did the chef's kitchen, indoor fireplace, bigger sized covered back patio, bay window in master, 2nd sink, & tub addition in master bath, & $4k front of house elevation upgrade (covered front patio, & stone), we're trying to go cheaper for the design center tomorrow. We've talked about adding hardware for the cabinetry, curving the corners & flatting the edges of the granite countertops, going with trim package 2 for thicker base boards, upgrading flooring without a door, like living room, hallways, game room, but leaving carpet in bedrooms, closets, or office, & doing a jetted tub for the master bath. But going with standard options for anything else. Our design center budget is $18k, which I'm not sure is realistic. Especially since the electrician appt is the following day, & we know we're going to upgrade the living room lighting, to add recessed lighting. Fingers crossed we don't spend more on interior upgrades than we did on structural! Construction won't start til July & the house won't be done til 2022. But hopefully, it'll be worth the wait. Hope this helps with comparing what other builders do. I'll be looking out for your next video update. Take care! ☺

    Congrats on your new build! I am in Arizona. We didn’t get pricing for anything until last minute which wasn’t fun because we had to move so much stuff around. Thanks for all the info! Definitely seems like every builder works different. I really wished we would of had a second design studio appointment. Sounds like your new build will be taking a bit longer than ours. We got our lot Nov 7th and are scheduled to be done end of June. I will say it’s a slow process but definitely worth the wait!

    Our builder offers two full days in the design center plus a separate structural meeting that happens two weeks before the first design center meeting. So it really depends on the builder. But yes, every change after the fact is an added cost! Our builder charges $600 per change!

    Same sis!! Love this video!! I should have left my cheap husband home ugh I regret so many things I didn't upgrade!! And the lady at our design center did not show us or tell us about every option that they offered. The design center charges us $1000 for changes which suck!! I am very frustrated bc of the flooring but oh well.... we are the family who will be making a mess to the floors and counters lol 😆 Congrats on your home!!

There were a few things that weren’t mentioned to us that if we were told about we would have probably upgraded. $1k?? 😳 that’s insane! I’m sure you’ll be able to DIY a lot of stuff. I’m not sure if like DIY’s but I love them lol. Congrats on your new build 🥳

    Did ur builder allow u to pay for the upgraded appliances upfront? Did u pay a % of it and have the remainder added to the loan? Some of the upgrades they offer aren't worth financing into your home loan over a 15-30 year period.

  • @marymaeee

    I just feel like it always looks cluttered. We have that layout at our current home and even when the house is clean it just doesn’t feel clean. If that makes any sense? Lol. It felt like there was too much going on and there wasn’t enough room to walk.

    $250 for changes, Great Deal! We are bummed that our builder does not allow them at all, and we only had 1 day of Design Center. We have like 6 big regrets now, with no way do change anything. Our pantry is going to be the same like yours. We need bigger to store all those Costco Giant Portions and packages. Lol

  • @marymaeee

    @marymaeee

    😳 where you at least given a few days to change your mind? Or were all your decisions finalized the day of your appointment? If so, that’s ridiculous!! I agree, we wanted our pantry bigger but it wasn’t an option because it interfered with the second suite 😩
