Design and development of an ANTHROPOMORPHIC ANIMATRONIC HEAD.
Many of the existing robot heads use a large number of actuators to emulate facial expressions. It is justifiable to use more actuators to completely imitate the intricate motions of human facial muscles, but to imitate the basic facial expressions, the number of actuators used can be reduced. This project was an attempt to develop a robot head that utilizes only 7 actuators to achieve basic facial expressions.
Total cost : ₹ 11700 (excluding 3d printing and Raspberry Pi costs)
Softwares used:
Cad modeling: SolidWorks 2020
Model animation video: SolidWorks animation, rendered using Photoview360
Graphic design: Adobe Photoshop
Video editing: Adobe Premiere Pro

Even the sound of the eye lids opening and closing. First thing that popped into my head was Robin Williams voice saying “Hello” and then the Blink. Very nice job.

I would like to see the code. How are you going run the motors at the same time? Wouldn't nvidia jetson be better than raspberry pi? The jetson can do more in machine learning? I am just asking; I don't think rpi4 is powerful enough?
@Akash_347
2 жыл бұрын
I dont have a copy of the code with me, I'm sorry..But i used multithreading for running all motors at same time for each expressions.. stackoverflow.com/questions/2957116/make-2-functions-run-at-the-same-time. and yes jetson would have been a better choice if more functionalities were there, like facial recognition and neck movements. This was more of a mechanical design project and my aim was just to design a low cost robot head.
Nice work

Amazing job, just one question, is it possible a faster working in making any facial expression??
@Akash_347
Жыл бұрын
Yes, it is possible..The mechanism i have used to convert the rotary motion of motor to linear motion in mouth and eyebrow mechanisms uses single start lead screws which have very low pitch values. Replacing these screws with a multistart screw having larger pitch values will considerably improve the speed of operation of these mechanisms and reduce the time taken for reaching each emotions. Thank u for ur appreciation!
Hi do u have any updated version now?

Hey, nice one! Why did you ended up changing the arduino for the raspberry?
@Akash_347
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! commands could only be executed sequentially while using Arduino...(although multithreading can be used in Arduino I didn't know back then.. multithreading on Arduino, if u're looking for one : wokwi.com/projects/305087394119418434 )... Also raspberry pi is a mini computer, and it is essentially made for multitasking, so thought it would be better for the task at hand and also provides a scope for further expansion on the project..

I am studying the DOF of the assembly but i can’t seem to have grasp on how does the lip mechanism works and why is there 2 servos
@Akash_347

one servo is for actuating the cartwright mechanism which provides horizontal movement of lips.. other one is for adjusting the links of the cartwright mechanism to have a vertical displacement.

It's actually better and time saving to get the cad files from open sources and modify accordingly, than designing all by urselves from ground up. I got the cad files from here: zenodo.org/record/3539723#.ZA7MS3ZBy3A I too tried to create the head model initially but didnt had many videos to refer to and was also taking too much time. But if u still need to design, refer this : kzread.info/dash/bejne/eoZ7r9pyf8aqhNI.html. Might give some idea! Thankyou for ur appreciation!
