I NEVED missed an HBO boxing event, for the entire 90’s. So many great memories.

You know it's a good fight when even Larry Merchant doesn't complain.

The fans definitely got their money's worth that night. The main event was the fight where Maskaev knocked Rahman out through the ropes. They ended up getting the 1999 Knockout of the Year and the KOTY runner-up back to back.

Astonishing boxing

I cannot believe what i just witnessed... insane.

Great fight, great knockout, and great referee!

Very entertaining fight. Like Gatti-Ward what they lack in technique they make up for in heart, creating an amazing spectacle. Rounds two and three are insane. Respect to both. Roy Jones jr is class on the co-comms: He identified right from the start that Harris was leaving his head vulnerable to Jefferson's left - and look what finished the fight.

Yeah, I definitely remember this one as well. This was a great fight. I was pulling for Harris all the way. He got rocked early, but it looked like Jefferson was running out of gas...and then...IT HAPPENED! It was a highlight reel KO for sure. Like I said, I was pulling for Harris, and he'd been on an impressive run leading up to this fight. However, just before or during the fight, the commentators made reference to Harris being overconfident because he had faced better competition than Jefferson...and he HAD. And he actually BEAT some SOLID fighters: Jeremy Williams, David Izon, James Thunder, and he gave Larry Holmes all he could handle. He'd even been one of Lennox Lewis's sparring partners. Perhaps that overconfidence was what cost him here.

What cost him this fight was the "from all the way down home" haymaker left hook Derek Jeffeson threw lol. Harris couldn't take Jeffersons big punches and that was apperant from the jump that night. I still remember this like it was yesterday and remember the whole room gasping the same thing all at once "HOOOLLLLY SHIT" lol!!!! Still one of, if not the most devastating one punch ko's ever captured on film.

If i could have watched HBO fights without commentary, i would have used that option every time.

I like when the ring announcer repeats the fighters last name during the intros, only a couple did that now none do anymore.

David Diamante who introduces nearly all of the Matchroom Boxing shows on DAZN does this! Just had an accident a while ago but hopefully he'll be back, great style, unique look too.

the stoppages were annoying but damn, what a match. They respected each other the whole fight as well.

What a KO Jefferson resembles deontay some what in stature and style,he could of achieved so much more.

He also came into the game older,with very little experience. He sure made his mark though.

They became friends after the three knockdowns, but then had to get back to work. Somebody’s got to lose. Maurice fought with too much self gratification with his small wins then relaxed. That KO was thrown Southpaw!! Jefferson is Ambidextrous?!

GREAT FIGHT. i remember watching this with my brother. we went crazy when the knockout came. harris was very skillful but didnt have what it took to be a top fighter. jefferson was all guts and punching power. poor stamina was his biggest problem. shaky chin aswell.

oh you sparred with him thats cool. how hard did he hit? it was fun boxing. i boxed with pros all the time aswell. guys you might not know because they never went too far. i boxed with antonio ramirez and francisco lorenzo. ramirez is a journeyman now but looking at his record you would never know how hard he hit. he hit hard! he was those guys that fought well at the gym then fight time came and his technique was gone. he was sloppy and was easily outboxed. his punching power was all he had.

Harris almost beat Larry Holmes and was a skilled boxer just turned pro too green but I respect him once he got comfortable he earned his style .... BUT DON'T HAVE SHIT FOR A CHIN 👊😲🤣.... Lol I saw the fight live and Jefferson was my guy after then faught David Izon and IDK . A punchers chance !!! One punch power is all it takes sometimes. GREAT FIGHT 👊✊

True fans like both.

I was 22 when this fight happened and heavily into boxing, especially heavyweight boxing, and I never saw this fight or heard of either guy. Back in the 90s both of these guys were irrelevant.
