Jeter wasn't just a great Yankee, but a role model for many people. I watched him as a young kid and he retired when I was in my 20s. The way he didn't showboat or run his mouth, or ever really say anything controversial were the things that many kids emulated as they got older. I have no problem with people who know their talent and boast, but when you win 5 rings and are responsible for some of the most memorable Yankee moments, and you do it the right way without coming off arrogant, it really resonates with people. I think after his Mr. November home run, he said "if we don't win tomorrow then tonight didn't matter" just seconds after cross home plate. Just prefect.

One thing I have in common with Derek Jeter I have family in New Jersey. My parents were born and raised in New Jersey. My parents moved to Long Island in 1989. I was born four years later after they moved to Long Island. I grew up going to new jersey as a kid to see my grandparents. New Jersey was like a second home to me. My grandfather was a huge Yankee fan he use to tell me stories about Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, Jackson, and Mattingly.
