In B.R. days conductor drivers would've been found and trains could then be diverted Carlisle to Hellifield , Blackburn and Preston. Since privatisation, though there is no cooperation from one TOC to another. Time to renationalise our railways and solve the delays like this.

Absolute joke of a day made worse by the current U.K. railway setup. They could have simply run services up the Settle Carlisle as before. Just to jog memories uncouple the electric at Preston, attaché a diesel loco to route services via Blackburn and into the Settle Carlisle and replace the diesel at Carlisle with an electric loco. Reverse the procedure at Carlisle for Scottish Euston services. If Beeching hadn’t happened route via the little North Western Sadly the modern long carriages can’t use the Cumbria Coast route because of loading gauge issues north of Barrow.

The lack of coaches for the Avanti services is disgraceful from them, there's no reasonable alternative route in that area. It's all well and good saying "Don't travel" but people are already on their journeys

There are alternative routes but for reasons tied up with the current TOC set up it no longer happens.

Anybody know who "Billy Stirling" is/was?

In Swinton south Yorkshire all the trains got cancelled causing 2 spads because they found wartime bombs next to track

The 56 was epic coming up the gradient from Preston Docks

Would have been terrible on that delayed sleeper.Its bad enough trying to get to sleep on them in the middle of the night.But having to stay in that tiny little room on not very comfy bunk beds during daylight hours with very small windows to see out off,unlucky.

Why on earth was it running knowing it was going to be this delayed? Could it not have been diverted via Settle and Carlisle route along to the East Coast.

It can't run through the settle line as the loco is electric & also the drivers only sign the WCML & ECML

Why did they not use Seattle & Carlisle line and bring it out on WCL at Lancaster

lol the late running 92 sleeper was loud, that grid was really smoking and screaming, nice IETS and northern belle the tesco train too

Everything goes via the west coast route , one snarl up and big issues.

One of my friends said that the Caledonian sleeper cars are the same as the ones used on the class 397 🤦‍♂️

Hi Graham ye the loco 92020 was noisy its dyson sounds are loud when the brakes are on

It was 4 hours 56 late not 6 hrs 30
