Applied a load of traction before brake released then notched up way quicker than was (and still is) usual.

The 47 had detached from its train during the run round movement but was held at the groundframe, released by Grangemouth Jnc box, much longer than expected, the brakes on the wagons leaked off and they ran into the 47 pushing it off the catch points. The wagons were moved very quickly but the engine laid there for some time, with run round moves being done at Larbert.

Great footage and great seeing all that 37 action. I used to see the double headers going to Ravenscraig daily as I lived close to the line. Hee haw now. Grangemouth only sees about 6 trains in and out a week now. Sad days.

Brilliant Video !! 37 heaven. Single and double +clag. Poor 47 on the dirt. Must've come down with a bump lol. Leading wheel climbing the opposite check rail. Oddly the points look set for straight on. Guessing they moved under the loco. Bet the 125 driver was red faced lol. Impressive clag, followed by an overload shutdown 😂. Loved the shot of the Semaphore Calling on signal for 409 to come onto the depot. Another entertaining vid. Not the usual,, train passing a camera. 😀👍😎

I would guess the driver was in No 1 end reversing through the loop and ran out of track. Those points are trap points used to trap trains in loops or sidings so they do not run out onto the main line against a danger signal. Looks like they did their job preventing a possible head on collision on the main. No doubt the driver had a bit of explaining to do

I was working in Falkirk at the time of the derailed 47 but never went to see it. I had a wander round the Grangemouth shed in 1993 after it was shut and the SRPS diesel group were in there about 2000 to recover various items, some of which are at the west end of the diesel shed.

Funny that it is seen as a golden era. At the time it seemed like the railways were ever contracting and that apart from city commutes, everything was in decline. I think that on the whole, trains have become ever more functional and less interesting as the decades progressed since the end of steam.
