Depersonalization Setbacks Are a MYTH? (THE TRUTH)

Depersonalization and derealization are a frightening experience, and many DP/DR sufferers worry that the symptoms will become permanent and that something is going wrong since there are so many ups and downs during recovery. Assuming you have the right strategy (body based strategy) and you are being consistent with it, the truth is that depersonalization setbacks are a myth. It's normal for people to experience ups and downs in their recovery journey, as rewiring the nervous system takes time and doesn't happen all at once.
It's important to remember that even when you feel like you're taking two steps back, you're still making progress. It's also important to stay consistent with your strategy and not give up when things get tough. When you're faced with the ups and downs of recovery, it can be helpful to take a step back and look at the bigger picture - think about the last few months instead of the last few days. Sometimes a few days are not a good picture of the overall progress you've made.
In this video, we'll discuss the common myths about depersonalization setbacks and the two reasons why people experience so many ups and downs during depersonalization/derealization recovery.
If you're struggling with depersonalization or feeling overwhelmed by the ups and downs, don't forget that you are not alone! Recovery is possible - so don't give up hope!
Here are some options if you need my help in your recovery. Yes, today is the best day to start. Don't delay another day! You only have one life.

    They’re talking about 100% commitment, not how well we perform in our recovery strategies. Of course some days are gonna be easier than others to do the relaxation techniques, eat healthier food, avoid stressors in our work and relationships etc… Question is how committed are we to fully recover? Meaning, are we treating this condition similarly to how people who suffer from addiction and are in recovery, which for them is sobriety comes first and everything comes after that. Replace the word sobriety with calm. Hope that helps!

    Good old Evercrack. It was that and OG RuneScape for me back in high school during Y2K. Thanks for the videos! I was just discussing with my wife this same topic. I told her I didn't like referring to my downs as "setbacks" during this process. I think any frustration or sadness from it can only be a positive sign and with your methods those days are much easier to manage than ever before.

    Such a good video! Could you possibly explore the idea in a video of how grief relates to the stress response and dp/dr? I’m experiencing that and having a little trouble understanding the connection there. Thanks Jordan! 🙏🏻

    If your vision (tested by an optometrist) is normal, but it feels, like, your vision part of the brain isn't working properly, is that a sign of derealization??

  • @coachjordanhardgrave

    @coachjordanhardgrave

    Жыл бұрын

    Good question. So visual disturbances can be connected to dilated pupils from fight or flight response (anxiety). Derealization isn't a visual issue although it appears to be, it's a shutdown of parts of the brain that allow for connection to one's environment. Make sure to talk to a doctor and a licensed mental health professional this is for educational purposes only.

    @@coachjordanhardgrave Or doesn't really seem to think much of it. I've taken Lexapro, Abilify, Buspirone, now I'm starting on Prozac...if that doesn't work I might try Zoloft. From my understanding, there isn't any FDA approved medications specifically, for DPDR though.
