“The devil” needs to stop being used as a scapegoat for bad behavior. Figure your stuff out. That was you, Will Smith. It wasn’t the devil, and it wasn’t whatever movie roll you had played.

Will Smith made a mistake he has never made in his entire life. An error that cost him a lot and will probably define his future. Are you saying he does not need prayers to overcome or to get a second chance at being a better person? You must be perfect not to understand DW's take on that matter. Given a second chance, do you think WS will ever, ever commit such a terrible error again? What WS need is forgiveness and compassion not cancellation. Chris is a winner already in that Saga. His prayer was answered that day. He came out a hero. WS fell, he needs to rise again and prayer will help. WS and CR are wonderful people and they both deserve a good life into the future.

@@kingkobra242No, it's not. Just because we (As Christians) say that the devil got him and that we need to pray for him doesn't mean that he shouldn't face the consequences of his actions. For example, King David did a lot of dirty things including sleeping with another man's wife, and when she got pregnant and he failed in his attempt to cover it up he had the husband killed. Now if God went by your example, under Jewish law David and the women should have been put to death immediately, it didn't matter that he was King he brought the law, but God didn't put either to death because he knew David's heart. Yes, he did wrong a lot, but he never repeated the same mistake. He was always genuinely remorseful for the mistakes he made and God saw that, but he did have to pay for his mistake and that was 1. He lost the opportunity to build the 1st Holy Temple to God which was a big deal, 2. The child that he had with the woman died, last his remaining years as King would be nothing but constant chaos, and one of the things that happened was that his son Ab’salom overthrew him and briefly held the throw before being killed in battle. I don't know if you're a person of faith or not, but as a person of faith, I've always understood that God's forgiveness doesn't mean I won't have to face the consequences of my actions.

Entitlement it is. It is also highly unlikely that the apology came from the bottom, top, or middle of Will Smith's heart. He has the money to pay his lawyer to put that one together. The apology statement came about on the advice of Will Smith's lawyer knowing the backlash he's going to get for assault and not being charged for it. Tsk. Tsk.

That's because Chris Rock's actions don't fit the widely held narrative of the *violent, "Angry Black Man"* . Denzel & Jakes know that Chris' exemplary actions are seen as "exceptional" even as a super human fluke, while Smith's actions would be/are seen as defining or embodying the true nature of, indicative & characteristic of ALL Black people. So, Denzel & Jakes were trying to do damage control against that widely held, accepted, negative narrative of an entire people. That is a disgustingly sad statement on our society especially because for White people, the exact opposite is accepted as truth, which is that one bad apple is simply that: one, inexplicable, single, solitary, one off, bad apple, while the whole barrel is seen as & credited by nature to be good.

They are only interested in saving Will career and reputation. They know Chris rock got the support of the international community and his career and personality has triumphant in people views. Will on the other hand needs saving from himself and I believe that why denzel and cohort don't want to kick him while he is down, even though they don't agree with what he's done.

I used to have a lot of respect for Denzil till he took the side of the aggressor Will Smith and completely dismissed the real victim Christ Rock. How come Denzil or the Bishop never addressed the humiliation and the pain Chris was subjected to. Purely, double standards and hypocrisy at its best.

Bc Christians are about forgiveness and they believe when someone fucks up that you shouldn't condemn them bc we all fuck up under God's eyes. That's what I've observed from being raised catholic (im spiritual now). They know chris did nothing egregious so he has nothing to repent for and so hes "clean" and his soul doesn't need anything cleansed. But they bring will in bc hes the one who sinned, so hes the one that needs his soul purged of the "devil" that made him do that and for that to happen, there needs to be community and love and no judgement. If you're not Christian, none of this will make sense. But of you are, this is basically how Christians operate. It is in "love" bc they believe everyone should be forgiven and u shouldn't hate, bc God is the only one who can truly condemn. Hope that helped.
