listening to this I can see my Swedish has improved so much I took it that "ska" also means "shall" compared to "WILL"

I'm not super well-versed when it comes to the future tense in English, but "shall" seems more like "kommer att" and "will" more like "ska". But with these things, the borders are a little bit blurry.

@@sayitinswedish What shall we do today? We shall go to the store. You shall clean your room... Shall we get started? ("shall" is definitely the closest translation for "ska")

@@ZForce151 it only seems to me that it works in the question "what shall we do today" and the answer to it. Otherwise it doesn't have the same level of determination. It doesn't seem to be that easy. Like in my example "jag ska gå till tandläkaren imorgon".

@@sayitinswedish it is hard to tell from just reading the sentence but when spoken with the correct inflection it can be a direct translation. ie. saying "you shall clean your room" implies that it is determined that you will do that. for your example: "jag ska gå till tandläkaren imorgon" saying "I shall go to the dentist tomorrow" also directly means "I will go to the dentist tomorrow". Also, when you say: "Shall we dance?" the inflection makes it a rhetorical question whereas you already know the answer is "yes".

No, because it sounds like "I'm supposed to be back" or "I have to be back".
