Lived near there. My dad was stationed at Langley AFB. NAS Norfolk and Langley AFB pilots flew maneuvers with each other all the time.

lived in hampton 15 years dad was stationed at Ft Monroe long before it was BRAC’d saw and heard the F22s daily sometimes woke up to their afterburner takeoff drills. kinda miss it lol

U.S. Navy and Major League Baseball (pre-2000's baseball), just full of fascinating tradition. Love them both.

I grew up with that in the house, and, upon joining the ranks of fire fighter would activate the MC with the bo’sun whistle. Typically “all hands “just a neat tradition!

​@@Juggernaut2578-1 in most navy's it shows how long they have spent in the service by how many stripes thy have. each stripe sowing a sertan period of time spent such as three years per stripe.

I was on Indy, CV 62, back in 1990. I was a boatswain's mate, and all I did was watch. SN3 Matthews to anyone who might know me.

@@wolfjones2438 yep, and there's a very good reason they use a Petty Officer 1st class for something like this opposed to a Chief, in my opinion. That reason is Chiefs wear a dress uniform that is much more similar to an Officer's opposed to the classic black wool with the Dixie Cup that E-6 and below wear.

Many of those pipes were modified with a bowl to enjoy Mother Nature!

Negative, all black sunglasses with modest design and a modest decal that is also black are in regulation. I think metal or silver frames are also allowed, but I wouldn't state that as confidently as I would that black sunglasses are allowed.

Boatswain is the correct spelling, "bosun" is the correct pronunciation. Either way you want to slice it, this servicemember's record will have him listed officially as a Boatswain's Mate 1st Class. Have a great day.

Sunglasses are out of regulations

As a former sea cadet, (rank: lead junior) I have my own verified original copy of a boatwains pipe, as lead junior I was responsible for calling whats is called stand easy (meal times) often also being responsible for attending most drills and activities related. I can assure you sounding an original bostwains pipe is alot harder than you think it is

We're you in the navy for 16 years or more and at least a chief or above if you don't then you should not put the bm1 down for his rank at this time
