“There are a lot of fears and apprehensions that come with being completely transparent. In real life I’m incredibly cynical, usually bitter, and often foul-mouthed. Through Demon hunter, I’m a much more composed version of myself. It’s not that I feel the need to alter myself when I write lyrics- it’s more that writing allows me to gather my thoughts, compartmentalize my feelings, and be articulate. I try to write in a way that I think is going to make sense, resonate with people, not alienate (too much), and have lasting impact.
There will always be part of me- the more candid, more conversational parts- that won’t often come through the band. That’s deliberate self-censorship on my part, for better or worse. Sometimes it feels right. Other times it feels like I’m hiding something. This song is written to myself in a sense- to be unafraid to speak my WHOLE mind regardless of what people might think.”
