DEMOLITION | BL England Chimney | 4K VIDEO
Ғылым және технология
Controlled Demolition, Inc. (CDI) of Phoenix, Maryland, USA (acting as Explosives Subcontractor to Main Demolition Contractor, Environmental Remediation Services, Inc. (ERSI), of Syracuse, New York) performs the preparation for and successful explosives felling of the BL England Generating Station Chimney in Beesleys Point, New Jersey on Thursday, October 26, 2023.
As a third and final phase of CDI’s structural felling operations for ERSI, CDI felled the 463’ tall, 49’ 6” diameter reinforced concrete chimney that supported three reinforced concrete flues at the breaching level. A total of 240 lbs of explosives were loaded into 417 holes CDI crews drilled into the heavily reinforced 2’ thick concrete shell. The direction of fall was ensured by ERSI’s installation of remedial reinforced concrete into preexisting openings in the structure, allowing CDI to fell the chimney with precision, avoiding splash of debris into the waters off Cape May and the operational switchyard adjacent to the fall path for the structure.

Awesome video, great quality coverage and pinpoint accuracy as usual. I wish you had a schedule/list of upcoming implosions, I’ve always wanted to see one in person.
The construction of this chimney is interesting. The outside is a concrete shell. Inside you have three actual chimneys (one for each boiler). You can see these clearly from the overhead view early in the video. There is also an elevator inside the big "chimney" which stops a several levels. You can step out onto a steel walkway with a grid pattern in it so you can see down and up. I've been inside this chimney and have taken the elevator to several levels to do inspections.

Also, it was designed to look like a lighthouse. I realize they pointed that out in the video but that’s a design choice I find interesting.

Are you aware of chimneys at other plants functioning in the same way?
Your videography gets better and better. Great job! 😊

I can remember being off Beesley's Point using that stack as a landmark while navigating to the dock we came from. Another great video. It never gets old watching this happen. Keep up the good work.
Great video and always love that whoosh from the perspective of the chimney falling toward you.

I like seeing the dust coming out of the chimney as it’s falling over. It’s as if smoke is coming from the top one last time before it’s gone forever. Amazing video as always.
These videos get better every time!

I’m not sure if this is spectacularly artful or artfully spectacular but such precision demolition so perfectly captured by the videographer is just an absolute marvel.

Chimney Demolitions are as great as water tower demolitions, no wonder why the Dairyland Chimney destruction is your most popular, hopefully you are getting more great footage
Another satisfied customer 😊
Great shot. I particularly liked the dust and smoke cleared ground aftermath (post demolition) video of the project.
That was fun! Do it again Mister! 🤓👍

Woah, those aren't actually windows on top, are they? Oh, I see now. Made to look like a lighthouse. Did it ever have lights in it?

It used to even light up at night.
Also cdi do you have videos of you demolishing a lighthouse? Or new video demolishing Water tower?
You know what I especially liked about the demolition? The crisp and clear sound that your microphones picked up as the chimney fell. They turned a realitivly mundane job into a symphony. Your tag line still holds true, “The Art of Demolition.” One question. You had already done 2 heavy jobs on the property. Did you or the GC have to check the stability of the chimney in case there was any damage caused by ground shocks of the other parts hitting the ground hard?
Cdi try released all your old videos demolishing old structures outside the us
With demise of NJ’s offshore wind projects it makes sense to build a new natural gas power plant at this location as was planned a few years ago.
Would have liked to have one of those panes a glass but I know there wasn't any whole pieces after it dropped
How big of a drop zone do you need to establish for a demolition this large? And then how big of a safety zone do you have to establish beyond that?
You blew it.

Ha!
Video of cooling tower plz?
its a shame, this VERY BIG chimney, in this special place, coukd be converter easily in a tourist place to go, a lighthouse, an observatory (mid level and on top), and even with a beautifull restaurant (windows on top), at least i think so. Just i think so, because my old city (Bilbao) has a heavy industrial past, converted today in a modern and tourist beautifull city.
Who's mom's birthday was it?
"Million of pieces and put it in his basement..." Excuse me but what?! Anyone know what the heck the into is talking about??

Beautiful felling. People of NJ probably going to regret destroying power plants in a few years when they isn't enough electricity to power their homes...but its ok...it'll cost them MILLIONS to build new ones. 🙂

Coal is dead. Get over it.
Fred did it better
There will come a time when you'll regret the demise of this power plant. Why this country continues to destroy its energy sources is baffling.

Your anger should be dIrected to the Natural Gas Industry then. Natural gas raised the standards of emissions that coal cannot reach. It's also much more efficient to burn natural gas for power plants. You're blaming green energy but, there has been a boom in combined cycle power plants. I'm pretty sure there were also pissed off training enthusiasts when steam engines became obsolete as well.
