Demo Heavy Microsoft 365 Business Voice Teams Phone System

Ғылым және технология

You like demos? Great. This video is nearly 100% demos. Within 40 seconds I begin a big demo sequence showing demo after demo of all that key features of the Microsoft Office 365 Phone System with Microsoft Teams desktop and mobile apps, Yealink desk phones, Jabra headsets, pricing and best practices after 2.5 years of HEAVY use at Xerillion, with 31 clients and 600+ users migrated.
I start out logged into my Microsoft Teams app showing you how I use the Microsoft Phone system with Microsoft Teams. I show all the key features as well as video showing you my own desk setup with Jabra Evolve headsets. I go over why you'd choose dual ear over single ear, and why I sometimes prefer a wired headset over a wireless.
Right on my desk I demonstrate the different models of Yealink desk phones that are certified for Microsoft Teams. I show all the features that would be important to most people who prefer to stick with a desk phone.
I then move into the Teams mobile app and how you would work with the Microsoft Phone system there, and why some people may decide to just work with the Teams Mobile app and skip the desktop app and headset all together.
I show the nice integration between Microsoft Outlook contacts and Microsoft Teams for click to call contacts and click to call conference calling.
I show the integration with the Teams web app for joining conference calls.
I show the click to call features inside web browsers with the Microsoft Phone System.
I then go into pricing and best practices with our extensive experience with the Microsoft Phone system since it went into full production in March 2017. This is our 3rd complete video on the Microsoft Phone System.

    Great Content Wayne! Quick Question for you, is there any call queue dashboard that comes with the teams phone system? It is one thing that is holding us back from making the switch. We currently have a dashboard that gives us live data of calls in the queue, wait times, agents logged in, etc... I haven't been able to find anything like it for the teams phone system.

    Thanks Katie! The short answer is no, they don't have that. We normally tell companies the one case that the Microsoft Phone system isn't a fit is a call center where a call center manager wants to monitor and manage call metrics. Currently Microsoft's priority is to get the standard phone system in the hands of businesses around the world, which of course is a huge job on its own. I would imagine Microsoft will depend on 3rd parties to build on a call metric system, though I'm not aware of any yet.

    Thanks for the video! It looks like a great system, but looking at the pricing (total $26.40/month/user in Australia for unlimited landline calls), you certainly pay for it! Hopefully MS releases some intermediate plans for users who don't need their own DID. There's a huge price differential compared to existing PBX solutions like 3CX or hosted/virtual PBX services.

    Thanks for the feedback. Here in the US the MS phone system is a very price competitive offering, as well as a better value overall to 3rd party phone systems. For those with M365 E5 subscriptions, it is a $12 (US) add-on, and for those with any other enterprise subscription (Office 365 or Microsoft 365) it is a $20 (US) add-on. Another alternative is to just add-on the phone system for $8 and pay per outbound minute. In the US it is 1.3 cents per minute for outbound calls. Inbound calls are not charged.

    My setup is pretty complicated and was a real pain to get to this point and I'm still tweaking it. I'm an IT guy, not a video guy, so figuring this out little by little hasn't been fun. Before people get into the technical aspects of recording videos, I would suggest a better use of time would be to get certified in M365. I'm dead serious. Making videos is very very very hard tedious and frustrating work. IT pro's should really use that time for training.

    I believe the pricing you provided ($12-$24 monthly) is for calling plans, i.e. ability to call external phone numbers. Phone System itself costs either $8 per month or comes included into pricier plans. And those $12 (for Domestic) or $24 (for International) options come on top of Phone System price.

  • @Xerillion

    Hi Pavel - those are the calling plan prices, and the phone system is $8. Not sure what time stamp in the video you are talking about? All that being said, as of April 1st, 2020, we setup clients with Microsoft 365 Business Voice for $20/user/month which includes the phone system, domestic calling plan and audio-conference calling,and can be added to any subscription, whereas the old subscription had to be on an enterprise subscription.

    Hey there first time viewer. I'm writing up a proposal for a Dr's office. He has 2 practices with 3 physical locations. They move from office to office depending on the day of the week. The receptionist has 2 phones at each office, 1 for each practice. Do you know if MS Business Voice could support something like this? I'm assuming you would have to license 2 separate users receptionist 1 and receptionist 2 and map two physical phone numbers to two separate call groups?

  • @Xerillion

    @Xerillion

    3 жыл бұрын

    It could support this scenario. If it is one receptionist and not many people, I'm not sure you'd need 2 separate phone subscriptions...then again, it isn't expensive to do that. I'd probably keep it clean with a separate phone-only subscription for a receptionist phone at each site.

    Right now, when we implement the Microsoft Phone System , only about 20% users opt for desk phones. Companies are going away from that. Client's these days either want to use the Teams desktop with a headset - with no desk phone, or let the user BYOD by using the Teams mobile app with the user's personal smart phone: they company doesn't have to pay for and maintain phone hardware, and the user only has to have one phone to deal with.

    See "Here's what you get with Phone System in Office 365" (docs.microsoft.com/en-us/MicrosoftTeams/here-s-what-you-get-with-phone-system). Microsoft highlights "device switching" feature, which it describes as transferring calls between different connected HID devices (e.g., PC speakers to headset). This may not be what you're talking about. FWIW, our small company with 2 remote employees uses Teams extensively. I usually join meetings & make calls from my Windows PC, but frequently use Teams on my iPhone & it works great. I never tested switching mid-meeting/-call from 1 device to another ... until now. It works. I created a meeting, joined it on my PC, then joined it on my iPhone, talked to myself between devices (managed to avoid arguments, thank goodness!), then hung up on my PC. I was still in the meeting on my iPhone. Easy. Feedback could be an issue. When I joined on the iPhone (2nd device), Teams muted the mic. When I unmuted it, Teams warned me about feedback (nice touch!). There was no feedback even though my devices were a couple of feet apart, but a third party in the meeting might have heard it. My guess is that the best technique in a real meeting would be: mute mic on 1st device, join on 2nd device, hang up on 1st device, & unmute mic on 2nd device. Not sure if this would work on a 1-to-1 call.

  • @jimfitch

    @jimfitch

    I just tested the transfer of a 1-to-1 call in Teams from one device to another. Result: no, or (perhaps more accurately) I didn't see a way to do it. I made the first call in Teams on my Windows PC, then tried to transfer to myself in Teams on my iPhone. No joy, including trying (as a work-around) to add myself to the conversation as a 3rd participant. This "failure" makes sense to me. I tested this from curiosity, not need. I doubt that I will ever need to transfer a 1-on-1 call from 1 device to another. However, if that needs arises, I'll simply hang up the call on the 1st device & call back on the 2nd device.

There are so many videos out there specifically about what you are looking for. • @Xerillion

    @Xerillion

    Not that I have heard of, though I know Microsoft gets this request all the time - on top of 10,000 other requests. I do think most people would pay say, a $2-$4 add-on to be able to send text messages from within Teams for people in the company that need it, though of course if they added it on at no extra charge, that would be even better. Still, I do like knowing that when I type messages in Teams, it is internal only. Yes, you can add guests, ect., but I choose not to. Email is too easy to accidentally email the wrong person, or CC someone who you didn't want to see some sensitive content 3 pages down the email thread. We have all been there.
