for the people that don’t know about the “melon cake”: with her old management team and most of her life due to her eating disorder, she had a literal watermelon cake. and with her new management, they actually gave her 3 real birthday cakes. so the song is about her freeing herself from that “melon cake” and being able to enjoy real cake. the melon cake represents her past

Fun facts about their songs: 1) Anyone was recorded three days before their near fatal overdose 2) Madison is Demi’s younger sister who is best known for her role in Desperate Housewives 3) Dancing with the Devil recounts what happened leading to their overdose 4) Melon Cake talks about how every year on their birthday their old manager would give them a watermelon cake frosted with nonfat whipped cream to take control of their weight. 5) 15 minutes refers to how their ex-fiancé use them for clout to get his 15 minutes of fame. 6) California Sober refers to the status of their addiction 7) Lonely People has them going back to their roots (meaning that they had a pop/rock sound in their first two albums) 8)Butterfly is about their biological father. For more facts, check out their docuseries Dancing with the Devil.😍❤️ This was one of my favorites

Madison is Demi's little sister. They have a very close and special bond. Demi became sober the first time because her parents told her that if she continued to do drugs she wouldn't be able to see her anymore. In a twisted and heartbreaking way, those words kind of became true. When Demi woke up in the hospital after her overdose, her sister Madison was the one at her bedside and Demi didn't know it was her because she couldn't see.

FINALLY!! Btw, here are some notes about the album: - Dancing with the Devil has a MUSIC VIDEO wherein she reenacted the night of her overdose last 2018. - The Melon Cake reference literally talks about her experience from her previous management where she would only have watermelon cakes during her birthdays because they thought it would be the best for her eating disorder. - Madison is Demi’s little sister who she really cares about. - 15 minutes is about her ex-fiancé Max Ehrich. - California Sober talks about her new path to recovery which revolves around “moderation.” - Ariana Grande wrote MHLN and she was thinking about Demi the whole time she was writing it. Ari gave it to Demi but Demi insisted that they should both sing the song. - Butterfly is about her biological dad who she had a not-so-good history with.

Some tips on the album for non-demi fans!! ICU (Madison’s Lullabye) is about her little sister, Madison. The first time she went to rehab it was because her mom told her she couldn’t see Madison anymore. After her overdose, she woke up and Madison was at her bedside but she was blind and literally couldn’t see her. Lonely People and 15 Minutes are both about her ex-fiancé Max Ehrich, who used her to promote his career. When they broke up he went back to the beach in Malibu where he proposed and called in the paparazzi to photograph him praying and crying (hence “praying in Malibu, crying in Malibu”). Melon Cake references a birthday cake her old team gave her because her food was monitored 24/7 due to her eating disorder. It was a watermelon with cool whip on it. Butterfly is about her dad. (other songs about her dad are Father & For The Love Of A Daughter)

I know a lot of people don’t like Demi anymore, but how can anyone deny that that she has such raw talent and several songs that are full of soul and emotion and go straight to the heart?! So many people try to deny it because they don’t agree with her mistakes or things she has said or done. They must be deaf or lack life experiences. The reason Demi had so many fans in the first place (besides her incredible vocals and range) was because so many people have been able to relate to her experiences and the songs she writes about them (whether it’s bullying, an abusive father, abusive boyfriends, eating disorders, body image issues, or struggling with addiction). For the Love of a Daughter and Skyscraper will always be two of my favorite songs of all time. She may tweet some weird things or make rude comments, or get into controversies, but I will always appreciate her for being such a talented singer and songwriter…and for being such a raw and real artist! I love how she always puts feelings in her songs! I have four of her albums (Here We Go Again, Unbroken, Demi, and Confident). I plan to get this one now! It’s a shame some of her best songs like Together and Starting Over never make it to the radio.

Background on the songs you might not knew: -I.C.U: when Demi woke up in the hospital she was legally blind and couldn't see or recognize her sister Madison -Melon Cake: Demi was forced to LITERALLY eat watermelon cake for her birthday as a part of her strict diet forced upon her by her old management. -Met Him Last Night: Ariana wrote this specifically for Demi, because of what she went through. Demi was like: you better sing it with me girl! -15 Minutes: the title has a double meaning, it can be both about how she had "10 to 15 minutes" when she was found after her OD, and about how Max Ehrich dated Demi for his 15 minutes of fame. -California Sober: Demi tried to be sober completely but it didn't work for her, so she's now trying to be 'California Sober': weed to substitute for hard-drugs. This is Demi's most honest album. Her voice is the best it has ever been. She was almost gone. Dead. But she isn't. She is a warrior. And a survivor. She absolutely slayed it.

I don’t think y’all understand how perfectly this album combined all of her prior work , all of her different eras came together in this album , the rock vibes the authenticity the confessional song writing , the simple beats but powerful lyrics . None of these songs follow a formula, the way her albums Demi & Confident started to try to follow . She lost some of her authenticity with some albums , but this is what we LOVE her for , because she puts together ALBUMS . Some artists don’t need albums but Demi is wonderful at putting albums together , her first 2 albums in particular were just so authentic and paved her way as an artist and she’s really combined everything she’s done throughout her years into this album. It’s her best album for sure , I couldn’t be any more blown away from her . It’s so great to see how she has grown as an artist with this album, she’s never been more sonically free, she’s so free and it shows in the art she just gave us.

This is defiantly one of my favorite albums of 2021. Loved Demi's vocals and just her realness in dealing with her issues. I also loved how the starting track Anyone showed her in a lonely state and through the journey of the album, we ended with Good Place where she's found peace with herself right now. Also loved the themes of love and loss but more importantly, she stressed that we need to be happy being with ourselves cause that's a relationship were all in for life and if you don't love yourself, you won't be able to be truly happy.

madison is demi’s younger sister! when she woke up in the hospital (after the od) she was blind and couldn’t recognize her own sister so she asked “who’s this?” it was such a heartbreaking moment so she wrote this song for her that’s why she said “i was blind but now i see” it’s such an emotional & meaningful song :(

  • @beatrizribeiro8234

Also, a few years back when Demi went to rehab the first time, her parents told her she wouldn't be able to see her baby sister anymore unless she got the help she needed. So that's what gave her strength to heal the first time... After her OD in 2018, she woke up blind due to the strokes she had and she couldn't ~literally~ see her sister standing beside her hospital bed. So ICU (Intensive care unit) is where she was hospitalized after her OD and also stands for "I see you". It is the most beautiful, poetic and deep play on words I've ever seen.
