This actually sounds pretty good for people interested in this kind of device. No one would expect to run hardcore gaming on surface pros anyways. You get an external GPU for that. Surface Pro and IPad pros are about note taking with pen, ms office work, video consumption and good battery life in a portable form factor. This is slightly thicker than I’d like but sounds great otherwise

THIS! As much as I like the Surface Pro 9's easy SSD upgradability, I'm not sure about having the OS installed in that one SSD. That's why I've gone for this Dell tablet. Definitely a worthy choice for low-power x86 use.

3:2 is useful but I have not bought a Surface Pro or Go so far because displays mirror, batteries are unreplaceable and some models are not silent. This Dell device repeats the first two mistakes and adds a different third mistake: the camera bump. I would want to use the device as a tablet but with bump it does not lie flat on a table and handholding becomes nasty.

i am eyeing this device to switch from an ipad pro. the ipad has been excellent but due to ipad os it has really gotten in the way of my use cases. i know it’s partly on me to expect apple to allow an ipad to replace a computer but oh well. as the surface pro 9 is coming out soon, this feels like to only other option for a sleek 2 in 1 tablet form windows computer. i do not mind the 60hz or the port issue, as ill be connecting to a monitor and already have the necessary dongles needed from when i had an ipad. honestly, this may be the better option vs a surface pro 9 but i will wait til both release fully to consumer first.

Hi David, thanks for the review 🙂 I recently got Asus ROG Flow Z13, it's very similar to XPS13 2in1 and Surface Pro. I would say, the lack of a built-in kickstand is very bad because people do not always want to use the type cover. Sometimes, I just want to watch KZread (your review 😉) or read something. We don't have any way to stand or hold it comfortably, and the cover takes up a lot of space in both the front and back too. Also, the price, is expensive I got ROG Flow Z13 for $1,899 - $300 (discount from BestBuy) = $1,599 for 12900H + 16GB + 1TB SSD. It is a bit too hot and heavy but the value is better than the XPS13 2in1 at about the same price.

Tablet is nice to use on bed for reading, KZread, Netflix, or even 2nd screen when you play another game (for Wiki or Discord). For the downside: (1) It is heavy, hot, and fan blows hard, as you can guess from 12900H in this small size. (2) Windows 11 is really hard to use with touch mainly.

I like the form factor but I need something slightly more powerful to be able to do at least minimal video and photo editing while on travel. Surface pro 7 isn't good at that. This one does not look like the perfect alternative, unfortunately. Considering the Asus ROG 2in1, now... Looks like the only competition that would allow me what I want to do... I'm a bit annoyed by the flashy look, but I guess I could deal with it.

unfortunately when I ordered the pen wasn't available in the UK. But to be honest if the pro 7 wasn't unto the task this probably won't be either. MS surface is without keyboard or pen, Dell comes with these... so you have to add some additional 300,-€ to the MS product if you want to compare. This is why I find I'm not a fan of ultrabooks considering the $. I just don't like companies taking ports away from ultrabooks at the cost of thinness and aesthetics. Even Apple, the king of taking away ports added some back to their Macbooks since people hated an all thunderbolt life. Ultrabooks even 5 years ago had an HDMI, a few USB A, a headphone jack, SD/micro SD card reader, etc. I feel like we've gone backwards since its so many ultrabooks today are just only TB ports even if they could fit bigger ones sadly.

I've always considered four to be the absolute minimum number of connections: power connector, audio jack, a USB mouse, and one open slot for whatever else I need. I've never been able to get audio *or* mouse to work reliably through bluetooth; there's always either latency or random disconnect issues. Other than that it seems like a solid design, and I love that it's passively cooled for true silence instead of just saying 'the fans are too quiet to notice, no really!' but it would have been so easy to massively improve quality of life for the user... Add a couple more ports, a bit more ram, and an adjustable stand angle (maybe something like we see on the recent HP folios?), and I would have been glad to pay a premium. But there's so many sacrifices and annoyances in places where they don't make any sense in what's priced as a high-end machine.

I bought an XPS 9520 the first new laptop I have bought, I am 35. I knew I was paying a premium and new I was making certain sacrifcies due to the form factor but when it finally came to it I still couldn't square the price with other competitors. I could get the 2022 equivelent laptop for half the price and almost as good a looks or, potentially, even worse if you look at it, I could get an even better last gen 2021 laptop again for half the price. The final thing that pissed me off is the extremely expensive laptop didn't even work properly too and it took me 4 months to figure out the problem and had one polite but unhelpful dell rep gaslight me that 4 hours battery life doing nothing on the laptop was within spec. I eventually figured out the problem was the CPU, I disabled all the atom cores (the ones supposed to save battery life) and one main core suddenly my battery lasts longer and my perfomance increased and have got Dell to accept a return, time will tell how well that goes. I paid £2300 for a 2700h 3050ti OLED model if Dell put a 1080p camera with this and sold this it at around £1600 that would be an acceptable price. Despite being gaslighted by one of the staff, if it wasn't for the overall good customer support I have got from Dell I would say to definately not buy their laptops, I'm shocked they get such good reviews, this eexperince even had me considering buying an Apple alternative and I hate Apple.

I'm not even joking even the 720p camera on my 8th gen Dell is better than the 720p camera on the xps 9520, its such a bizzare creation.

You are absolutely right on Dells quality and after service is absolute terrible. Here is Canada I had the new 15 inch XPS labtop which looked very nice but truck pad issues to running hot with fans running but not too loud but still. I had the i7 intel chip which at best i would get 3 to 5 hours of battery life which for a 1900 dollar labtop and the issues i returned the labtop. I bought the MacBook Pro 14 base model and from the display to the speed with no fans as well. The speakers are amazing and i can get a work day but close to 10 hours of battery life. This is one of the best labtops i have ever had. The MacBook track pads once you get use to them are simply the best on the market. I bought this with Apples student gift card promotion which was 2400 dollar minus 2000 gift card. You wont regret it and Dell needs to have a product that functions and provides decent battery life for the price they are charging for sure.

On the go, I use my Tab S9 as a second display with Second Screen. I never find myself using more than two ports.

Mate 2 Porta is just fine. If you're buying this like the Surface, you're going to use Bluetooth everything. We don't even use a cord with our phones anymore. We use Bluetooth earphones and some wireless charging. 2 ports is nothing to gripe about. The lack of a built in kick stand is the dumbest thing Dell left out.

Thanks for the video. I have to respectfully disagree with price complaint however. If you've existed in the Apple ecosystem, the pricing would probably be quite reasonable if you consider the *value* of this device. Specifically, this detachable 2 in 1 acts like a laptop and a tablet running big boy software as opposed to nerfed iPad OS software. To accomplish the same thing in the Apple ecosystem, you would have to buy an iPad Pro PLUS a Macbook Air/ Pro which could be as much as 3x the cost of this Dell. Not to mention, you're having to potentially buy two different apps (if it even exists on iPadOS) to accomplish the same thing for both operating systems and the iPad version being crippled and having to adjust to a different UI. I for one am tired of Apple's marketing, forcing me to buy and switch between multiple devices to accomplish my daily creative workflow. It doesn't feel very fluid at times. I'd rather be able to choose how I want to work rather than Apple forcing me to work in a certain way, swapping back and forth between devices.
