Dell Latitude E6530 E6540 Disassembly and Memory Upgrade - 713

Ғылым және технология

I got two Dell Latitude Laptops, a E6530 and a E6540. The older of the two, has more memory then the newer one. So I decided to swap memory between the two laptops.

My PlayHouse is a channel where i will show, what i am working on. I have this house, it is 168 Square Meters / 1808.3ft² and it is full, of half-finished projects.
I love working with heating, insulation, Servers, computers, Datacenter, green power, alternative energy, solar, wind and more. It all costs, but I'm trying to get the most out of my money, and my time.

Thanks for the Video. I have just completed half of my task. I too communicated with Dell and was told that an upgrade would not be a problem. My E6530 came with 8Gb of RAM. I foolishly assumed that meant that there was one 8Gb stick installed and one vacant slot sitting there ready for the 8Gb upgrade. I followed your video. However, I quickly learned that the five screws that you removed did not all have to be removed. The two up on either side of the battery housing and the one just about in the center were all that I needed to remove. The other two are holding in other parts, not the back of the case. I found that there were two 4Gb sticks installed so I replaced one of them with the 8GB upgrade stick and reassembled the laptop. I now have 12Gb of active memory and I have ordered a second 8GB replacement stick from Dell. When it arrives I will install it and have 16Gb of RAM. I am normally lost when I attempt anything computer related beyond pushing the power button on. My magnetic field creates unbelievable problems for me. So, I am extremely pleased that I was able to complete this task. If I can do it, ANYONE can do it!

Hi Morten! These are great laptops....i have the very similar E6520. You probably already know this but you can insert a module into the expressport that gives you two USB 3.0 ports for around $10 on ebay ....and also add an extra hard drive instead of the DVD drive.($8).....and also add two USB 3.0 instead of the DVD drive too ($15), if you wish! I have them all and they work great! They seem almost forever upgradeable! Just making sure you know you have many options. Great videos thank you!

Consider yourself lucky that those have detachable batteries, Morten. I had to order a replacement battery for my Latitude E7270 (which is the last Generation to carry the E Series Dock Port) last week which arrived with UPS today. It cost me 104€ including shipment and was actually a discount from 195€ for the bigger battery). The battery had expanded quite a bit (might have went on thermal meltdown), and was holding only 30 mins of charge.

I only noticed it, because the case was bending out of shape, when I took it apart I noticed the 5 cell battery was blown, maybe cause of the design which puts the battery in the case where all the heat is... If you ever get arround a E7270/E7470 the battery is removable, but DELL OEM Replacement Parts cheap out on the battery power cable (which is clipped on the the battery and the Device power connector) for Intel 6th generation devices (the cable actually has its own part number). Glad I had not yet recycled the original and could use the cable again... I have some older Latitudes a E6220, a E6420, a E7440 and a E7450 in my office. But I find the E7270 is by far the nicest to travel with, even on flight trips...

Basically the same laptop built 1 year apart with a newer revision with 2 less screws. It may be a trivial to save a cent for each screw. But if you churn out 1 million of these Dell laptops. That 2 cents savings is an extra $20,000 profit.

I did this and got the 'no boot device detected' error. I figured it was because the hard drive was not seated correctly, and after several tries got it to work by turning the laptop correct side up and then sliding the hard drive in, because the connecters are on the lower half of the slot.
