Delicious Vegan Yogurt in the Instant Pot

Ойын-сауық

Making Vegan yogurt in the Instant Pot, couldn't be easier. All you need is two ingredients, for a cultured vegan yogurt, that's creamy, thick like a Greek Yogurt, tangy, probiotic and delicious. It's so easy that there's no need to buy yogurt anymore, especially when you own an Instant Pot. There's really no recipe, and the link for the Yogurt starter is in the show notes. You will need Eden organic Soy Milk unsweetened. My mom loves this yogurt and I'm sure you will love it as well.

Shayda, I can’t thank you enough for this recipe. I’ve been making this since you posted it with the cucumber dish, and it’s been life-changing for me. Yogurt was really the only dairy food I missed since going WFPB, and it’s nearly impossible to find plain soy yogurt in stores. I order the Edensoy by the case from the manufacturer because it’s not easy to find in stores either. Usually I make 2 pints in my 3 qt instant pot. The consistency and flavor of this yogurt is just the best! With some homemade muesli, berries and/or other fresh fruit, ground flax seeds, chia seeds, and some turmeric/cinnamon it’s a breakfast I look forward to every single day. If you’re considering trying this yogurt recipe, do it! You won’t regret it.

Thanks for the easy yogurt making demo, Shayda. I make dairy free yogurt with Westsoy Organic Unsweetened Plain Soymilk (the only ingredients are water and organic soybeans) in a Euro Cuisine yogurt maker. Belle and Bella non-dairy starter works great (my detailed yogurt recipe is on their website), but I can't have maltodextrin, so I now use 2 MegaFlora probiotic capsules instead. I ferment my yogurt for 14 hours because I like it tangy. Whatever plant milk you use cannot have any additives or flavorings which will interfere with the fermentation process. Almond milk does not have enough fat to make creamy yogurt, but you can try adding tapioca starch, or even agar, which is a seaweed, to thicken it. Of course cashew milk and coconut milk make rich, creamy yogurt, but they will not be low fat!

Here in Georgia, I have only been able to find them canned; but I'd like to find them frozen. It would have been helpful to know what temperature the setting on the Instant Pot was to make this yogurt or, at least the temperature of the yogurt itself when taken out of the pot. Otherwise, good video. If one reads the Davis "Super Gut" book there is much therein about the use of probiotics for fermenting yogurt and other mediums.

The beauty of using the instant pot yogurt function is that I don't have to set the temperature or do anything. I just push that function and the magic happens. When you do take it out the yogurt is slightly warm and I just let it cool on the kitchen counter then refrigerate.

Dear Sshayda. You should get the Davis book: "Super Gut". In it you will see the value of fermenting/culturing with exact temperatures and times for fantastic results. A fermenting device without a manual temperature adjusting feature is virtually worthless. I think the new Instant Pots have this ability now, as well as sous vide devices and some of the yogurt maker brands. Check out this book! You will be glad you did! I make it in a 6 qt - instead of one quart jar, I use two pint jars and one half pint. I mix the culture and the milk in a four cup measuring cup, then pour in the jars. I've done both the water (just a couple inches in the bottom) and dry methods. Both seems to work equally well. I set the half pint aside and use it to make the next batch of yogurt (saves money on using/buying culture each time!). So far, I've done this four times and it seems like the yogurt gets better with each batch.
