I'm a jazz newbee, you classy fellas can thank Gundam Thunderbolt for me being here. The KZread Algorithm said, "hey you like that soundtrack here's something similar" and I wasn't disappointed. This is beautiful music. You've earned a like and a subscription.

I first heard this tune around 1988 when I was like 17. It was always my favorite Wynton tune because it was so non-intuitive. I (as a non-musician back then) couldn’t tell where the top of the tune came back around because it wasn’t as obvious as your standard AABA song form). Decades later, I am amateur musician, and I finally can count this tune. It’s like a magic trick…once you know how it works, it loses a little bit of that mysterious magic. But It’s still an amazing composition and I think even Wynton would agree it’s his most popular tune for musicians to play…well on its’ way towards official “Jazz Standard” status. Thanks for blowing a young kid’s mind and turning him on to a lifelong obsession with this wonderful music, Wynton!

Agree 100%! It's interesting to hear how Wynton's playing has changed since the release of the Black Codes album nearly 30 years ago. It's also refreshing that Wynton still enjoys playing the small clubs.
