Delete The Background From Glass with GIMP
Sometimes deleting a background to transparency isn’t as simple as it seems. A good example of this would be glass. I’ve gone over various ways to delete backgrounds to transparent with GIMP in the past, but what about for more complicated imagery, like glass? In this instance, it’s not simply a matter of creating a selection around your subject and deleting everything outside of it. With glass, part of the background shows through, so we have to delete it in such a way that the background is removed from the glass, but without removing the glass itself. In this tutorial I’ll be demonstrating how to do just that.

Shout out to Photoshop Training Channel for the inspiration for this video. He originally demonstrated how to do this with Photoshop, so I figured it would be cool to demonstrate how to do so with GIMP (with my own touches added, of course.) You can watch his video here: • The BEST WAY To Select...

Nick I just have to say it's crazy how much you've grown. I subbed years ago, and have since stopped needing many tutorials, but it's awesome to see you are still making quality videos!

Same here. I've learned so much from Nick, but I still love to watch.
Can you do a video on blend modes with a focus on their practical applications?
You ROCK! Over and over you demonstrate the power of these fairly simple tools.
What a great tutorial Nick, all kinds of the things to learn here. Big thanks!
I've learned a lot with your videos bro, and I continue learning. Thanks, thanks you very much! A great greeting from Trujillo, Perú 😎👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
i am just learning how to use gimp and I like the videos very much. Tank you for taking the time to make them
GIMP is so freaking awesome. thanks for your tutorials
That's insanely clever, Nick! I did something similar not that long ago and came up with a similar method but got awful results.
Wow. That's incredibly impressive!
Excellent and instructive! Thank you
Just discovered your channel. Subbed instantly!
Fantastic. Thankyou so much @Logos By Nick
Amazing, as always.
Thank you SO much! I'd been struggling for awhile now before I found this vid

Well played dude, very nice channel, thanks👨🏾🌾☀🙌🏾
Cool, thank you Nick!
Very cool tutorial.
Brilliant! This is golden
Awesome, cheers Nick
Awesome bro!!
Nick, I have no real interest in Gimp, but this was a very cool tutorial. I probably should revisit Gimp at some point because I think this would have been very difficult in Photoshop
Bem detalhado. Muito bom trabalho.
Just discovered your channel, so good! I think I will get your course, but wondering if is it for complete begginers or a bit familiar with Gimp already too? (I know all tools you mention, just now learning how to make some new stuff with them)
Wow this is awesome Thanks
Wow This is Really Cool effect :D
Great video
Superb ❤️ thank you
Excelent! You're the best.😱
thanks alot for all videos , please make videos about how to use gimc for gimp
An off-topic query Nick: I want to insert a image into another image. The problem is however that the newly inserted image is much brighter than the background image. Is there a way to capture the "mood" or "atmosphere" of the background image and then apply that to the newly inserted image? Thank you for any help you can provide.
Nice video ! Cheers
thanks nick
Sadly my last tutorial here, as I decided to move to affinity for better functionality and fewer bugs. Thanks a lot for all the videos tho, they accompanied all my first steps in graphic editing.
Awesome!!
thanks very helpful
Thank you.
Please tell me what app did you used in your inkscape videos that showed the keys you press on mouse and keyboard? Please tell me
Very very useful... ✅✅✅✅✅✅
Hello, thank you very much for your tutorial videos. I have a question. Is it possible to make a mockup file in GIMP program as in Photoshop program? Is there any translation to smart object in the GIMP program
@LogosByNick

Unfortunately no. GIMP doesn't work with Smart Objects. There is a free web-based designer called Photopea that can do this for you though. I have a tutorial about it on this channel. I believe it's titled "how to use mockups without Photoshop."
TOPIC REQUEST-- Hello Nick. I LOVE your tutorials. They are paced perfectly, the pinacle of clarity, and always immediately inspiring. Thank you. My topic request regards how to simulate intaglio engraving of a greyscale portrate. Sometimes the aesthetic is referred to as "scratchboard". The portraits on banknotes is the best example. I have tried adapting the method of halftones to the project without success. Does this sound like it might be a popular topic for a future lesson?

I'll see what I can do! Thanks for the suggestion.
What you do is sort of magic
Sir can I make and upload same designs as of yours on stock photo website? Will there be any copyright issue?
Super !!!!
I love your vidoes
can you remake your 3D block text tutorial again on version 1.0.2?
nick i neeeed help lol i wanna know why your tools are all separate and mine are combined i have to hit a letter to change or hold and change hovering over icon. could you help me out? thanks much appreciated!
What version of gimp do you use? Mine doesn't have the same tools as urs rip...
Cool
Sir pls pls solve my problem how can I rotate image without losing quality pls reply sir
OK but how would you actually make the glass image look semitransparent, so it could simply be placed on top of any layer and always look like a glass not just grey in the middle?
This is insanely clever! But you lost me at around 3:28 (change the blend mode to multiply). After that, it was just flying fast over my head at supersonic speed. :) Not your fault. It is me. Even though I have being using GIMP off and on for a couple of years, it has always been limited to changing brightness and contrast LOL!
too many steps means an bigger margin for error, i think we need an plugin for that, that can quiclky adjust any step
Please create a tutorial on "how to design pc mouse in inkscape"
the shadow under!!! That woulda sealed it for me!

Good idea!
I think you forgot to blur slightly the grass "in the jar". It does not act as a magnifying glass, so...
I don't understand how the gradient applied on the layer mask at the end (black to white) reduce the blur, i mean shouldn't it be a "alpha channel to white" gradient? Why black?
@LogosByNick
3 жыл бұрын
It has to do with how layer masks work. In a layer mask, black makes the area transparent and white leaves it opaque.

@@LogosByNick so layer masks automatically apply their effect to a filter applied to that layer? I didn't know that!
👏👏👏☘
How to do this with inkscape?
@LogosByNick
3 жыл бұрын
This isn't possible with Inkscape. Inkscape is meant for creating vector illustrations. GIMP is meant for editing photos like this.
The tutorial is awesome but you forgot a tiny little thing... The shadow from the glass on the table 😉
How to update
🖖👍
hello I'm from Indonesia I often watch your design tutorial videos on KZread please make a streetwear t-shirt design tutorial video or something else, it's up to you to use Gimp or Inkscape software
#FeedTheAlgorithm
I think its time for me to update gimp.
the 3D text tutorial you made 4 years ago on inkscape
Hello Nick! I am your fan Allen from Taiwan! I wrote an email to you just now and I hope you can see it!! Please let me know if you don't get it~
Alright glass is cool, but what about fire? Here is how i do it: > Get fire with a black background > Put it in a layer on the top and set the mixing mode to 'addition' > Make a new layer filled with black that is only under the fire layer > Set the mixing mode to 'hard light' and the opacity to some where between 50 and 75 > Paint with a light orange in the areas that you want to be light up by the fire in the scene There you go! nice and easy.
You werent able to show how you add this background
face reveal video?
Great tutorials - I have watched many of them - thank you for posting. However, they would be better if, in addition to telling us what you are doing, you also explained why you are doing it. The tools are, I think, fairly straightforward but your use of layers and masks is not. Not understanding the rationale for each step unfortunately makes these tutorials much more difficult to remember.
Hi i can translate this video to Arabic for free if u wanna that my mother language is Arabic
First
The name and thumbnail make it seem like it works with images with any background :(. Now that would be new.
