    In some ways Del it's more entertaining and enjoyable to watch you work metal the "ghetto" way than with the"proper" tools. Where there's a will there's a way/ work with what you've got. Keep on rockin 🤘

    Great piece of garage fabrication Del! For your info, I have an Irwin plumbers bender for 22 and 15mm that I have modded to add longer/stronger arms (3ft) in 28x3.2mm tube (former gas pipe). I regularly bend 20x1.6mm galv steel conduit for my pieces of fab without any problems at all. The cast mechanism is in perfect condition after several years of use. If you are considering a bender for limited tube sizes then my adapted bender is a good cheap alternative. Don't be seduced by the hydraulic ram type benders sold by MM as they only work on thick walled tube (> 3.0mm).although I have had very limited success with thinner walled tube when filled with dry play sand but it's a big faff to do. Bending thin walled tube requires a mandrel, which you get with the plumbers model, other than that you need to spend £hundreds on a large manual bender that would take up most of your garage.

    I've heard you say in the past how you enjoy fabrication and want to improve your skill set these latest episodes have left me confused. After you did the hoop and quite a few people suggested methods that didn't involve a pipe bender that would get you better results like using sand or making a jig out of scaffolding board, both really low cost methods that get good results, I can't believe you continued on with the bodgery I've just watched.

  • @Moonfleet41

    @Moonfleet41

    OK, I can see you're pretty upset about that, and sorry you feel that way, but behind the scenes we have a lot going on and some very big changes going on very soon, so we just need to get this knocked out and tacked together as we have something else to focus on which will take a few weeks, and wanna get past the frame stage... scaffold boards and sand are also 'bodgery' of sorts, so it's just different levels, or opinions, of ghetto fix... the only proper way to deal with this is a hydraulic pipe bender and that will be coming as part of the changes shortly... can't buy it all at the same time mate. If I feel I need to re-make this in the future, then I will do, it's only a basic sub-frame on top of the existing sub-frame (so perhaps a sub-sub-frame lol), to hold some lightweight panel work, the weight will be borne by the factory sub-frame itself.

  • @Paul-io6dy

    @@Moonfleet41 I can assure you I wasn't upset, confused yes, upset definitely not. Packing and using a press are both tried and tested methods which are used in industry past and present so could hardly be considered as bodgery. Making a press out of scaffolding board could probably be considered as a ghetto fix for making a press I'll give you that, using sand not even a ghetto fix. I think your wrong a hydraulic pipe bender is not the only way you could use a manual tube bender check this out kzread.info/dash/bejne/aneVx6V9n9CxqMY.html. I know it's not going to be seen just thought you could have done it better and even saved youself some time at little cost.

    Have you considered making your own pipe bender. You appear to have all the tools to make a simple device. A flat base plate, say 1” thick, with two vertical posts each 1 1/2 diameter fixed to the plate at a suitable distance from each other. You could even make one of the posts adjustable for distance from the other by cutting a slot in the base plate and clamping it to the base plate using a bolt. Clamped to the table using the holes for the vice... I did some forge work as an apprentice and this is, effectively, what we used.

    Great work Del, I've just caught up with all the Busa build videos and I'm thoroughly enjoying them thanks. Your 'home skills' fabrication work and initiative is great to see but I really like the way you've saved a cracking old bike from the scrapper. Seized nuts, bolts and studs are a pain but watching you work through them patiently & methodically reminds keen amateurs like myself that It happens to everyone and we're all in it together... in random sheds and garages all over the place 😂 Keep up the good work 👍🏾

    Thanks so much for your kind feedback mate... a wise old guy once told me that engineers are clever and have PhD's, same as Technicians, they've read all the books and done all the exams and know all the theories, but the sign of a good old school mechanic (which is all I consider myself to be), is the ability to problem solve and methodically work through problems without drama. It's easy to work on new vehicles that are all inside their 2yr warranty, but it's a different story on a 20yr old bike that's been neglected... you spend 3/4 of your time on the age and neglect, and only a fraction of the time on the actual repair... ! Just passing it on to those who, hopefully, would value it...

    Looking good so far, Del. But about the Reg/Rec, don’t forget about mounting it in the tailpiece that it needs to have airflow going thru the fins. The whole reason why Ducati’s kept burning out so frequently during those specific years was because they stupidly mounted them inside the headlight housing. Then they had to make an aftermarket bracket to solve the problem. Heat destroys those things. So bear that in mind when it comes to being housed inside a metallic shell during the summer. You could fry it out inadvertently and not even mean to. Just a friendly thought for ya Mate. P.S.- Cough cough cough . . . Welding gloves when using a blowtorch . . . Cough cough cough. 😁

    Hi buddy.. The wiring harness that plugs into the Reg/Rec is run all the way to the back and knitted deep in with lots of other wiring... so moving it to the front or something will take ages unbinding, re-routing and re-binding the loom.. and it may still not reach anyway, the factory mounted it under the left rear "cheek" panel under where the pillion sits.. and it was pretty much closed in with little air flow.. so i will mount it more or less in the same place, but maybe some louvers cut either side of the tail panel with the open ends facing forward to catch air flow.... long way off yet, but it all on the list fir sure.. Thanks for your support as every buddy.. have a good week.. Del.

    Seemed to go ok, if it started to kink, then as long as you stop immediately you can press it out with the vice... its not the right way to do it however you stack it, but it works..

    Hi Robert, im glad you enjoy the videos, and thank you for your kind feedback. What size is the chrome tube?.. if its about an inch or so, that ive often used "chair leg bungs", you can buy them from Ikea or other home and DIY stores.. hope that helps.. and thanks again... Del.

    Another great video del just one point I noticed you were hol did the blow torch a tad close the hottest point of the flame is at the tip of the blue cone inside of it is cold gas might save a tad of gas 😂😂

  • @Moonfleet41

    @Moonfleet41

    4 жыл бұрын

    Cheers Leigh, you're dead right mate, the intention is to delierabtely push it too close to 'avoid' that hot spot on one side of the tube, and allow the flame to lick round the tube and try and spread the heat all the way round and then keeping it moving too, to avoid soft spots that could collapse... it's hardly a science, but it's the thinking behind it at least!

    Random thought, if you got some extra spanners and smoothed the teeth out on the inside of the ring would that prevent the indentations .

  • @Moonfleet41

    @Moonfleet41

    Yeah, thought of that.. but imagine, with how hard a spanner is, how difficult it would be to just "smooth" out the teeth.. the proper solution is a pipe bender.. so watch this space..!

  • @Moonfleet41

    4 жыл бұрын

    Not specifically, i weighed every change with the streetfighter, and made it a good bit lighter.. but this bike will be what it will be.. im sure it won't be heavier thats for sure, the old factory plastics were seriously heavy and also ive junked the fat factory 4-2 exhaust...so i should end up the right side of the factory weight.
