Would have been pretty hard to get anything to sound right on the windy beach with the equipment we had in the 60s. Even most of the TV stuff was "canned" because the sets were mostly bigass warehouses with multiple shows being taped some, or even a lot, times. Would have sounded awful.

Del made some truly great records in the early sixties. Unfortunately he was around at the wrong time. From 1964 onwards everyone was obsessed with The Beatles and the so called British invasion. Many great American artists struggled during this period, many simply faded away. Only Elvis and perhaps Roy Orbison managed to buck this trend. I understand the Ronettes sang the backing vocals on this disc, just before they met Phil Spector and recorded Be My Baby,

Del wanted to be known for new music - not just his oldies. In his garage, he built a small soundproof recording booth to cut demos in. The industry, though, ignored him. Eventually he'd only go in there to close the door, shut off all the lights and drink his demons away in total darkness 'til he passed out. He called that room -- The Mole Hole. After he finally got rights back on his old hits, Del established his own publishing company. And what did he FIRST name it? Mole Hole Music.

One of Del's best, and he had plenty of good ones. You'll think you gotta paper heart when she starts to tear it apart. Love it. Thanks so much for posting.
Masterpiece !
I love this video and the song (and Del of course). Adorable little kid in the beginning ... if that was 1963 and that baby was about a year and a half or two, that would make her around 51 today. Wonder if she ever watches this video and realizes what a part of history she was? I miss Del Shannon; wish he was still around, making music.

What happened to singer that you said gone much too soon? 😢
Del Shannon knew how to relate to anyone who has ever had their heart stomped on...great performer who died too soon...
Nothing reminds me more of the early 60's than the music of Del Shannon. What a legend!

We had the best music of all time in 1959-1961. Darin.. Elvis... Richards... and so may others...
my dad did a speech and sung little town flirt in it!!!
One of my fave songs by him. R.I.P. Del.
So much talent. Such a great loss. I still cry.
Thanks for posting this! Del at his best and a real rarity.
I wanted Del Shannon in the Traveling Willburys so very badly. He just couldn't make it. Our loss! Rest in Paradise Del. Thanks for being so sweet and good!!!
Proud you must be . to be a part and working with the great Del Shannon What memories you must have sir.
Oh. I had quite forgotten that he sung this. Good for you and KZread. It's great to discover, but sometimes even better to rediscover.
looks like this is from "where the action is".

Totally agree, guys. Listen to the Billboard Top 100 now as compared to anytime between the 60's, 70's and 80's and you'll wonder "what the hell happened". That's why some of today's youth is going retro and forming a real appreciation for yesterday's music.
I am selecting all his songs. He was popular as all get out in my day. LOL
I am good friends with his nephew Chuck and listen to his music often, one of the best!
love del shannons music

i know what you lot are trying to say, but im 22 and this is my favourite song. along with, mark winter, venus in blue jeans.
One of the best,i have most of his songs, was a sad day when on the 8th Fed 1990 he shot himself with a .22 caliber rifle. He left us with great songs though.
As my grandma said," Money is the root of all evil".I'd say that depression is perhaps the no. 2 problem for just about everybody.
What a great guy and sad loss to the era.
what a grea post!Thanks!
I miss you so much Del and would want to join you in heaven as we speak.
Guys, take some comfort in the fact that these great songs are still 'here', alive and... enjoyed by folks of all ages ~ the ones who "get it", that is! :)
I believe that the cute little baby focused by the camera in this footage would have been 50+ years old by now .... hehehehehehe!

It was a good time to grow up in but where all old know and you will have you great times to look back on
Del Shannon was able to get the rights to his music in the 1970s. Bug Music was founded in 1975 to manage his songs and is probably the most famous music publisher that makes sure composers get their royalities.
The gorgeous blonde dancing behind Del looks like the incredibly beautiful Mary Hughes from the Beach blanket movies.
