I love that it isn't a projectile quirk. The concept is well thought out and a cool take on speed based powers. I don't think it having gears is an issue because it is referring to how a car can shift gears. However, if they change it in official translation that would be understandable

It is a projectile quirk, the second used it to buff his gun to make it faster. Deku uses it to turn himself and the things he touches/ punches into projectiles and makes them move faster

I love the 2nd users quirk but what we have to note here is that his quirk "changes the speed of things he touches" so maybe it's possible to SLOW things down. I mean, if Deku is able to slow down Shigaraki by A LOT before those 5 minutes and eventually gasses out, things could get really interesting

In theory that makes sense, but in the context of a car, you can shift down to more gradually decrease speed, however you can’t really go slower than having stopped, which is to say if transmission accelerates something above its normal speed, you probably can’t reduce something below its normal speed.

All of these quirks combined with Deku's innate ability to combine them with his battle IQ, makes Deku one hell of a fighter no matter what he is faced with.

I for one think this quirk was pretty brilliant from Hori. First you think “ok neat”, then you think about it and are like “oh wow actually…” and then you think about it’s applications paired with OFA and it’s like “holy shift”.

I mean, Horikoshi is known for paying homage to other properties. Half of the locations in MHA are straight up just named after planets in Star Wars. Horikoshi is a huge One Piece fan. I think this is less of Horikoshi "copying" One Piece, and more him paying his respects to a huge influence in his life as a mangaka.

"Gear 2nd!" might put me in the chills like when Luffy says it! 🔥🥵 Ready to hear and see it used!!!

The 2nd user probably used a projectile weapon/cannon because he could increase the speed of the projectiles he’s shooting and because transmission at the time hasn’t fused with the core of OFA yet transmission back then was still strong enough to scare AFO so much that he gets war flash backs so imagine how strong it is now.

i dont think anyones noticed this but when deku activates the quirk at first he moves his hand in a manner that looks like he's using a stick shift, i think thats pretty fucking rad

The second quirk is broken as hell basically Izuku can pretty much apply himself to go as fast as he wants. Can you imagine if he combines that with Fajinn or Black Whip. Our boy could knock out a guy in seconds with his hands or with his air blasts

I think the gear thing is a reference to a gearshift you know in a manual car. When you shift gears it changes the speed.

When deku activated the 2nd’s quirk, he seemed like moving his hands like when people moves a car stick. Also, to me, the terms that deku uses (1st gear, etc) is kinda similar to the D1, D2, D3 written on the side of a car stick. If this is the case, I’m curious to see how reverse also works. It may be possible to use the highest gear then immediately use reverse causing damage like a whiplash. 🤔

I think it's fair to say there is a lot more to Luffy's gears than just speed. They completely change how he can use his rubber abilities and power, which has always been the primary focus for Luffy. Transmission altering the speed of the user or anything else he touches is definitely unique enough to be distinguished, even if it is inspired.

So Deku can basically make a rail gun and transmit speed into projectiles like captain kidd rail guns. Transmission is like a car gears where the higher the gears the faster you go. I wonder if you go in lower gears then a stronger attack like a car with low gear then more horsepower.

I think the quirk could have a lot of applications. The description is pretty vague “the ability to control the speed of what you touch”. It could increases his regenerative capabilities as well as increase his recovery time. It could go as far as increasing the speed someone ages since the quirk is powered up by ofa. I’m excited to see what other applications it has.

I don't really think calling Transmission's stages "Gears" is that problematic. In Deku's case, "Gears" refer to levels of speed, which would be obvious to anyone. For Luffy, though, "Gear Second" is similar to Deku's Transmission....Sorta. Only Luffy gets faster and his punches hit harder. Gears Third, Fourth and Fifth are much too different from Second, and each other as well. TLDR, Deku and Luffy's "Gear" modes are mostly similar (if not ONLY similar) in name, not form. I doubt Horikoshi will face much conflict from this.

@@mrohman1054 I think it feels plenty cool. Most of his other quirks are all passive activation ones like Danger Sense and Float. This is one of the few quirks he's inherited that actually have a physical appearance. Boi yoyo'd Shigaraki in the war arc while holding on to multiple other people with black chain

I really hope that Hori can figure out a way to bring the vigilantes, gentle & la brava back into the story cause I love those characters and to see them get redemption and validation would be amazing

I think the term gears doesn’t matter. Honestly, I’ve always thought it was weird that Luffys forms are referred to as gears. I’m sure there’s a reason, but it’s not obvious to me what that reason is. It makes more sense in a speed based ability to me (as you ‘shift gears’ in a car when going faster)

This power up is huge but what I assume is going to happen is that shigi is going to get his quirks back. Deku is going to either be overpowered or run out of gas, and Bakugo is going to save him to bring the full motif of their roles switching full circle. And they are gonna team up to beat him or another villain will interrupt

With Bakugo’s Explosion/Cluster being similar to Transmission (Shifting Gears) now, it takes me back to when I said Bakugo was already destined for greatness seeing as how every new quirk Deku obtained and honed, Bakugo was already able to do similar moves with his quirk alone i.e. accumulating beads of sweat similar to kinetic buildup of Fajin, creating smokescreens, flying around, pulling off smash-like explosions, and has great tactical skills and reflexes in battle already being so feral. On top of Edgeshot fusion (awaiting that news) I believe Deku and Bakugo are on equal ground.

Luffy's Gears are forms of his ability (albeit including speed) while Deku's is just the speed stages.

The fact the second user potentially used his quirk to increase the speed of projectiles and deku can just use it on him self really showcases ofa increasing the quirks powers over time. Being the first quirk assimilated into ofa too it would have had the most time to increase in power.

Maybe the gauntlet thing he’s wearing is like a bat claw and he can launch himself at enemies to touch them or to bring them closer to him

Dude the gear thing comes from vehicles that change the gear to increase the speed. It doesn't matter if Luffy already has a similar ability with the same naming scheme. The name fits here, that's what's important.

Deku does not need a projectile quirk if you look at it technically he can use are pressure to wreck havoc across distance that the strongest projectile quirks can't. Almight have done similar and deku can exceed Almight's applications of it... His air cannon buffed by these quirks will be pretty insane...

The latest chapter shows that he combines this with fajin and float, in result deku goes hyper speed and bend the space around him, like might guy 8 gates but with PERFECT control over his inertia. Adding the fact that deku's brain goes satoru mode keeping everything in his arsenal fully utilized and optimal. He throws everything with in different combination (smoke screen + fa jin + danger sense, fa jin + black whip + overdrive, overdrive + fajin + smoke screen + float) with his limitations in mind

I think that the gear thing is fine because what else are you gonna call it . Its quite literally based of a cars different gears so there shouldn't be a problem.

The quirk works similar to a cars gear shift so I think in practice it is similar to Ida's quirk and when he goes max speed he can only do it for x time then stalls, I assume the 5 minute timer refers to this and after that Izuku will stall out and might not be able to use some or all of his abilities and that could be when either Bakugo springs back, Mirio gets another moment or maybe just maybe All Might may show up as a momentary distraction so all of the One for All Users will be on the battlefield.

Way back in 2016 when toriko starting using versions of his moves with his gourmet demon he said “Jet” before the regular attack like Jet Knife and it even had steam around the attack so no problem here

Izuku might accidentally make smoke screen and make eraser not see shiggy and he gets his powers back

All the latest chapters of the main shounen has been FIRE: - deku learning eight inner gates - ASTA learning decay - sukuna being... Well sukuna 🤣🤣

I think he can still turn this into a rail gun ability. Combine the base strength of his first quirk and then apply transmission to the object that is about to leave his hand and you basically turn a rock into a rail gun projectile. He could technically turn anything into a meteor so long as he maintains contact with it right before launching it. Alternatively, he could probably slow someone down to a crawl. Combine the ability to speed yourself up with the ability to slow your opponent down, and you could effectively freeze someone in place for a short period of time. Enough to hit with a quirk erasing round for example.

I’d have to imagine the second user used the cannon as a guidance system for sending projectiles enhanced by his quirk a-la a Railgun

The second user explains that Deku is moving so fast that his cells produce energy faster than they can recieve oxygen. Basically his entire body is going to shutdown because of complete anaerobic respiration of he keeps using Gear Shift.

when you think about it, the original user was very smart to pass down OFA to the guy with the gearshift quirk. he knew the potential threat of the quirk to AFO and also knew it will get buffed the most as OFA will be passed to future generations

The collective power of one for all gathered over the generations in those individuals collective strive against the all powerful all for one who's almost godlike whilst the OFA users quirks were seemingly mundane in comparison just seems so beautiful and satisfying to me

Nice video as always, Zhoniin. It makes sense that the 2nd user's quirk is undoubtedly the most powerful since it left the best quirk for last. Ultimately, I do believe that Deku will inevitably surpass Prime All Might by the very end of the manga. Its also likely that the Second User's usage of gauntlets increased his range significantly. The names of the gears remind me of Luffy's uses of Gear First, Second, etc.

"brother today is the day we finally put an end to this" "if we don't finish this in the next five minutes the world is doomed, let's go" i think these are confirmations that we are already way past the last paragraph of the story and in fact we are in the middle of the epilogue, beyond the middle to be specific. I just wish that we get some more chapters with izuku and shigafo clashing but i don't know. It really seems like horikoshi is trying to end the story as fast as possible.

I don’t think this is the end. I’m pretty sure this is the equivalent of Naruto showing up to pain. He showed up at the same time as deku. Everything went to shit, mostly everyone died, and they both came in at the height of the villain’s power. And even when Naruto did first show up, it was only the beginning of their fight. So much happened after that. First we saw Naruto’s new power, then the hinata part of the fight, then we had Naruto’s rage moment, flashback, then him going to Navarro to end things. I’m pretty sure this is deku’s equivalent

If Deku doesn’t destroy Shigaraki then he will explode the entire Earth to kill everyone & himself including Deku too

At first I didn't like it but I'm coming around to it the more I think about it. I was pretty hung up on the bakugo time loop theory. Like I was thinking yeah Bakugo can't die because he still has to go back in time. But yeah this is pretty cool if he can Down shift or engine break himself or objects. Like if AFO throws and all out attack and Deku shifts his gear to one, and abruptly slows AFO down or keeps him as a manageable speed. This is kinda op.

I mean, if you think about it. The cannon on the 2nd user's arm could probably be some type of bola wrap cannon, that fires two balls connected by a chain, like a capture weapon, that he can accelerate like a gun using his quirk. That's my guess at least.

What If The main reason the 5 minutes is mentioned is because even though Izuku will defeat ShigarakiAFO within that time frame, the OG AFO will come after beating Endeavor and The older heroes?

So can he decrease speed? Wouldn’t it make more sense to increase his own speed and decrease his opponents as opposed to increasing his opponents speed, what is the benefit in a garter all for one ? Unless it’s only the trajectory speed that is effected and not physical movements speed

Youre right, but also if he hits his opponents with increased speed while increasing their speed too, the increased speed hits more when they hit fall or hit a surface but he's probably only increasing his speed.

I see your point, using gears like luffy, but this is more closer to Might Guy's 8th gate the initial attack was sequenced and included multiple hits, though it didn't move or increase Madara at all. That seems to be closer to a description than Luffy's gears.

I see how it can be a project quirk tho ( the gauntlet ) maybe whatever he's shooting it's being touching by him, in a sense of how shigs quirk works and he changes the speed of whatever comes out of the gauntlet.

Can we take a moment to appreciate how well Zhoniiin explained this chapter, like it is really amazing how much effort and investigation you put into giving insight on these chapters. Most of the times I can't even follow what is happening, so I simply come to you for answers. I would say the only issue are your thumbnails bro, 🤣like dial it back a bit. But overall the way you explain things is very insightful and i love it. Don't stop

I feel like this quirk is a lot like Accelerator's power in ACMI. I think the big thing with this ability is this: Note that it didn't say "increase the speed" it said "change the speed" I wonder if he can control vectors now like Accelerator. Which, in turn, would end up making Deku one of the highest tier "hack" fighters in anime. Somewhere below Giorno and Anos Voldigoad. But far above Accelerator and King Crimson.

vector is changing direction. there is a big difference. this " piss ant" ability is no where near accelerator if i say so like accelerator himself lol.

Bro. I think it this point, Deku could easily go Mach 1 or even greater. If using the max gear, plus Fa Jin. Plus black whip, plus one for all 100%. I think he could pull a body slam maneuver and probably destroy a whole city block or more. I mean. We really need to see him going as fast as possible. Like imagine if he’s going really fast and it’s compared to the black bird Super sonic jet with the scram jet engine. That’d mean he’d being going like Mach 3.5 or more!! But also, at this point with that quirk. Deku needs a costume built in a similar way to the flashes. Heat resistant and stuff.

@@godpro3189 bro…… the speed of light is 186,000 miles a second. He can not go that fast. Like bro, Mach 10 maybe. But I think that’s a little out of his wheel house. He’s already shown to be going over 767 miles an hour which is the speed of sound. But I will say thinking of it now. Why did Deku use this to move faster over the ocean?

@@Iamnotracistlmao that’s make him faster than korosensei. And he can go Mach 20. So your saying. Deku can go. 60-70 times the speed of sound. Which is between 46,020- 53,690 miles an hour.

I think he's paying homage to one piece. It's not "copying".

I hope the series doesn't end. As there are alot of side stories that can be done. 2nd year games. Joint training with other high schools. 3rd years. Starting a hero agency

I really hope the manga isn’t gonna end before we get to chapter 400 because we still have a good bit of things to cover and finish off(I hope properly) like what happened to New Order(I haven’t been reading here recently so idk if anything happened to it), Toga’s battle field, Spinner’s battle field, Shoto and Dabi’s fight, Endeavor hopefully seeing Dabi again, Infinite Rewind All For One, the climax of AFO’s Hawks and endeavors fight, TomurAFO gaining his quirks back, Bakugo coming back to life, and more. I don’t think they’ll be able to finish the manga if it ends before it hits the 400 chapter mark it’ll probably have to extend maybe 10 or 15 chapters past 400 in order for it not to seem rushed and do good

@@jeremycook3964 Yes I wonder how Uravity & Froppy will handle Toga once she awaken Twice’s Blood to unleash Sad Man’s Parade will they think a new combo move, follow by Shoto still exhausted & Dabi will go after Endeavor & Shoto will try to stop him even in his condition, All For One rewind back to his prime & will go after Deku after his fight against Endeavor & Hawks, Red Riot & Pinky facing against Midnight’s Killer & reveal his name & quirk while Mt Lady tries to stop Gigantomachia from escaping, Tentacole facing against Spinner in giant form while Present Mic tries to stop Kurogiri from escaping & Fat Gum fighting against Kunieda & protecting Can’t Stop Twinkling from being target & Skeptic will unleash the bounties of Heroes while 5 minutes has been counting

This fight giving me Almight vs Nomu vibes.

The 2nd user could use his quirk with that laser making it so he doesn’t/wouldn’t have had to touch his opponent to use it. Using the laser as a weapon with his quirk speeding up the shot of the laser. Deku has other options to attack his opponent the 2nd wouldn’t have maybe that explains the laser.

I mean it already going at the speed of light not sure how you speed that up idk if MHA had laser tech back then tho but just basically anything would work ge could basically turn his arm into a railgun and fire any old thing if he can speed it up reminds me of some of the things accelerator can do

@@alkhemia23 yea that probably a better explanation then a laser. Shooting something out of it and making that speed up turning it into a weapon. Could be a ball or like you say similar to accelerate a disk but more for firing.

i really want them to add that delay sound effect in the anime after shig gets yeeted

In my opinion gear is perfect wording for it as it's related to speed than any, gear change perfectly describes it and doesn't mean horikoshi is copying one piece.

I mean, the gauntlets the Second wears do still make sense... he's touching the barrel and through anime logic, he's affecting whatever projectile he's firing.

4:05 since it represents an actual gear shift/transmission its more accurate than luffys gear especially with it only having to do with change in speeds

He is using 100% OFA (the true one) alongside Transmission quirk to create 120% btw. This is why 2nd user said "100% becomes 120%" And no. It is not the Faux 100% because that one is only used on legs and requires blackwhip to be used as slingshots on buildings His design also changed and his hair got lighter and spikier. So yea

faux 100 percent is when he uses fa jin to further increase his speed. slinging around buildings is just one application of this

You're misinterpreting that a bit "100%" for Izuku is different from 100% of All Might, both of them were at different levels of potential and experience in using the Physical Part of One For All's Powerset. As Izuku gets older and he develops even further in the future, his 100% will surpass the 100% of Prime All Might, right now his 100% is like a bit past the 50% of Prime All Might and like 75% of Old All Might.

@@randombasic338 From what I've seen online it allows Deku to alter an objects velocity. This means that he can hit "new person altogether" and make him fly through the air even faster, or he could make him fly through the air even slower

I know that most of you wont get this reference, but in Zatch Bell a character named Jido used reinforcement spells that he named "gears" because they required consecutive activation. It came out roughly a year before One Piece introduced 2nd gear in chapter 385. I know its Luffy's signature, but he wasnt the first to use a gear system of reinforcement.

What if he can REVERSE someone into him. Example. He does a smash and makes what he's smashing go harder into the smash reversing into it.

Sorry but this new quirk sucks. We were waiting for this reveal for months and it’s just another quirk to enhance speed? Seriously? Can’t help but feel let down.

It was a projectile quirk. The 2nd likely used his quirk to speed up his projectiles increasing their force. This is also why bakugo reminded AFO of the second user Deku is just choosing to use it to turn himself and the target of his punch into projectiles.

It's literally a transmission 1st gear, 2nd gear etc... to speed up anything and also the ability to slow down I would assume.

I noticed there’s some alchemy in here. AFO took like a philosopher stone, the red shot and shigaraki is a homonculus.

Its like Luffys gears from one piece There gonna be a couple lvls of it like transmission 2nd using his Transmission or Velocity quirk is like 2nd gear Luffy nice Knew Hirokoshi was a fan when he did that Smoker from ONE PIECE drawing.

To everyone comparing Deku to Prime All Might: Don't forget that One For All at 100% for Deku would in theory break All Might Since the quirk evolved. That being said, current Deku would beat Prime All Might in a one V one.

The 2nd user's QUIRK is out of this world so cool !!!!!!! and love it !!!

Strength and speed are major factors in this fight. Shigaraki currently has strength close to All-Might and that hand mutation thing but with his quirks restored he will have 4 kinetic boosters and three strength enhancer quirks to even things up with Deku.

First thing I thought of was one piece. Gear shift is such an iconic thing that anyone who is a one piece fan cant disassociate from that easily. As a major Manga I really feel deku needs his own things that will resonate

Maybe the 2nd Is using the support Item because he can't handle the speed or his quirk that he can transmission on his body or it has a side effects after mins that maybe seen in the next chapters

With the 2nd user's quirk being called 'Transmission' then calling the speed changes 'Gears' makes me think of a car. Like shifting gears on a car transmission to change your speed.

Deku using 45% one for all right now with other quirks which helps him to reach speed higher than Prime Allmight and in terms of strength he is almost there . I think there more to it to second user quirk i think not even second user know right now how many gears are there because this power developed 100 years i think in second user time he got 4 gears but what if Deku can pull about 10 gears because that wasn't explain in chapter how many gears he can use

I almost teared up today cause all I can think of was whatever Deku's 2nd final quirk is, he's gonna shout overdrive! And when he did for his final fear shift I lost my gah damn mind! Cause majority of Deku's quirks are all enhancements for his body in some way so it may not be a Megabuster even tho his airforce can act that way in a way but this, I'm completely down with!
