Shoji is a lot more physically powerful than anyone thought, I think. I would have never expected him to go toe to toe against someone like Spinner in his current state.

His arm clones increase in strength the more he duplicates I think its only a matter of restraint when he's against humans and classmates in sparring sessions.

Tbh, after Deku, I’d say he’s the best physical brawler in 1A. His damage output is better than Red Riot and Sugarman, he has regeneration, his attacks are crazy hard to block or dodge, and he doesn’t have any issues like Unbreakable or Sugar Rush’s time limits.

Well, a very important aspect of his quirk is that the body parts that he replicates with his dupli arms are enhanced versions of the originals. For example if he replicates an eye, that same eye will provide him with enhanced vision allowing him to see clearly at much greater distances. The same way, an arm replicate that he might create with his quirk, will be much stronger than his regular arms, providing him with strength greater than any regular human. And he can even create multiple replicates at the same time. As an example of a strength feat of his, you have the Physical aprehension tests done to Class A right at the begining of the series, when in the grip strength test, he exerted a total force of 540 kg (or 1188 pounds), which is quite impressive.

Shoji’s back story makes sense, when Class 1-A moved into the dorms, Shoji’s room barely had anything and was considered as a minimalist when reality he didn’t have much growing up to begin with.

Nice to see Shoji get the moment he deserves, one of the most underrated heroes along with Tokoyami

@@grim4879 Tokoyami, Shoji and Jiro are underrated for now but Tsu will have her spotlight moment along with Uraraka against Toga and Twice’s Blood when the times come and also Kirishima and Mina too against Midnight’s Killer

I can't help but notice some parallels between Shoji and Shoto. Both have suffered hardships (One faced discrimination, the other an abusive father) and have the scars to show for it, but rather than dwell on their pain, they chose to push past their pain and move forward to be better people. And when confronting a villainous foil of themselves (Spinner and Dabi respectively) they're mature enough to tell them that yes, they have a right to be angry, but they don't have the right to harm innocents. I love little parallels like this and these past two chapters have turned Shoji into one of my favorite characters. Also, Koda woke up and chose violence. I can't wait to see what an awakened Koda Quirk can do and I'm curious to see what his backstory will be.

I wonder if he’ll now be able to control people, or at least heteromorphic types with animal like appearances.

Does anyone else think Shoji got his scars as a result of saving that girl? If you look at when Shoji saves the girl he has no scars, but if you look at the panel of Shoji being beaten (8:11), on the left you can see what appears to be an adult holding a child. Also, in chapter 123 when Nejire asks him "what's with the mask" Shoji replies "a long time ago, I..." before being cut off by Nejire. My thoughts are Shoji saved the girl, brought her back to town. The people saw the girl, with Shoji, crying and assumed he had made her cry and they beat him giving him his scars. Then believing the girl may blame herself for his injures he started to wear the mask so she couldn't see them.

Foreshadowing at its finest

Shoji was a background character but after seeing the third season when he saved deku I knew he was going to get more screen time or more important because he's actually a very cool character and I'm happy they finally seeing him shine. His goals remind me of the X-Men

Shigaraki being a gamer is just such an adorable piece of canon. I'd like to think that in a happier world where Tenko was cared for by his grandmother, he'd be gaming with Izuku.

The worst part considering doing all this at the tail end of the series at this point when a lot of people don’t care about the minor characters at this point.

"scale armor. It'll grant you raw strenght, heightended defense" fits very well with Malphite from League of Legends and how Spinner looks like right now, reminds me of Malphite aswell. So the 1 panel Shigaraki LoL flashback is actually pretty cool, because they use things from LoL to describe Spinners powerup

Shoji was always a cool character to me.This just cemented it along with a once shy Koda fighting for coexistence.

Honestly shoji was one of my favorite characters I wish he got more character development

The guy was the real unsung hero. He did so much for the hero kids from a support role that gets eclipsed and forgot by the dull main trio.

Most of Class 1A comforting Shoji was extremely wholesome. It just adds to Mha’s Feel Good vibes

Shoji’s friends of Class 1-A is Tokoyami, Mineta, Shoto, Midoriya, Tsu, Hagakure, Jiro, Yaoyorozu, Koda, Mina, Kirishima, Kaminari, Uraraka and Ojiro

Shoji and Koda have just become more and more badass.

Horikoshi has done a great job giving minor characters their chance to shine/to have a part in the major plotline. Very hard to find writers like that and I hope more media do this.

Not that much tbh, Way too late in the game for my tastes. And there are plenty of writers like that and yet he’s had pretty much the same issues so it’s really not that great for Just 2 chapters out of 369 to get a moment towards the tail end of the series at that.

@@jeffreyali1456not really, even if you think it’s a bit too late, Horikoshi still implanted a lot of seeds for the story for a long time, even in the heroes rising movie shoji actually protected the two kids the same way he saved that little girl from the tidal waves, shoji even fought against some of the Class 1-B students in the joint training arc, not to mention even all the way back to the Training Camp Arc, he shielded Midoriya and aided him into battle to cancel out Tokoyami’s Dark urges of power and to attempting to help save Bakugo but to no avail, every bit of story counts, Horikoshi thought this through even before all this, you gotta give credit when credits due.

Sheesh, with all of those new quirks, Spinner look like a mix between the Lizar from Spiderman and Leatherhead from TMNT (which is logical since Horikoshi love comics).

Shigaraki must have been a jungle main to become so toxic he disintegrates anyone he touches.

Spinner’s growing a shell like Gamera and climbing a building like King Kong. Shoji’s webbed tentacles look like Ghidorah’s wings. Needs more heads though. Koda’s head is awakening/expanding into spikes like on Godzilla’s back. Horikoshi’s genus coming through yet again.

It's nice that these two characters that sometimes I forget exists due to the lack of screen time, is getting there spotlight, this chapter had so much character development and just made me love these characters more, I can't wait to see more

Watching this makes me miss the X-Men. I’m sure I’m not the first to say this, but this does feel like a story plot line that could have appeared there.

I’d like to imagine I’d be on Shojis side. But being a mutant is something so different I can’t even imagine what’s that like. Imagine having a spider head while the kid down the street got the power to be Spider-Man without the spider anatomy. I’d definitely be resentful.

I feel like spinner is going to be the next machia because machia only listens to when he his told and spinner said that he can barely think and i think that as time goes on he will turn out like machia. Also, they are both big and strong and if you remember in the anime they show machia before he was all tall and that's what spinner looks like right now.

I feel like Kodas quirk could awaken into controlling the heteromorphic population that would be an interesting possibility honestly

This arc is so long but it does cover all of the issues I'd been asking about for a while. Finally, some discussion of the heteromorphic quirk people.

I've got an off topic question: Do you think KZreadrs (gamers, manga coverers and other kinds of influencers) exist in MHA? And what differences might there be?

Class 1-B is also with Sero, Ojiro and Sato and I only see Tsuburaba is here but I bet Shishida, Kaibara, Bondo and Hiryu is going to be here too at Takoba Stadium

This chapter was another dicey one. And while I want to make real world comparison’s, let’s avoid it again just in case. We’ll stay focused on MHA. Let’s start with something a bit unusually off to the side. And that’s Horikoshi’s approach to quirks. And I feel like he’s drawing a fine line between abomination, and amalgamation. Think about AFO’s ultimate arm, AFS’s endless finger armor and hands, Machia’s…existence, Spinner’s feral deterioration, and Kurogiri’s mangled corpse. All in their own way seem like proper heteromorphs, and they look REMARKABLY similar to the twisted up bodies, but also far more natural amalgamations between Shoji’s new move in the last panel, Koda’s stress induced awakening, Amajiki’s many chimeras or HIS ultimate arm laser beam cannon. It’s amazing how you think about what a body is meant to be allowed to do and it changes the perception SO MUCH when Nomu merely getting another quirk being the equivalent of taking someone’s innards and saying now my mind/body works better as the one they take from dies. Spinners absolute mental downfall is so sad because you just KNOW this also happened to Machia. And now only his base passions remain with 3 total quirks. And the Liberation Leader has to be his spokesman because there’s nothing left to say. How can HE say he’s justified freeing a corpse from captivity to use him to destroy the world. (And the liberation leader being barely able to is quietly amusing. ) Shoji’s talking to Class A appears to happen while Deku and Bakugo were under house arrest. And the scars are ALREADY taking a new disturbing approach. Appears someone from his terrible village tried to remove his head based on those scars. And for him to be big enough to not want to take revenge on “pure bloods” is so mature and good intentioned I genuinely think he might be the most adult student of them all. Not just that but to not resent being called an octopus, or most other names he deals with. And nothing made my heart warmer that giving such a man a hug he’s needed for a LOOOOONG time. I miss UA family time. Koda’s quirk appears to be evolving. His head was getting noticeably more and more cracked til it split open despite not taking any damage. I don’t even know what to speculate. He’s got my least favorite student quirk, (but I do still love his character and his shyness actually causing several seasons of being mute.) and it’s got SO little application I can’t even start. So the question becomes, how will being Dr. Doolittle turn into something new? I’ve been thinking some kind of animal shapeshifting. This was a tough one to analyze. Both because it’s TERRIFYING, but also because it’s hard to think about the dicier parts without getting caught by the realism. And I wish I had more to add, but I don’t think I go anything else. REALLY hope they find a way to fix this story arc for the anime. It really does need the FULL MVA arc to work best.

Since Season 5 My Villain Academia didn’t adapt Creature Rejection Clan scene I can only hope Season 6 Paranormal Liberation War or Tartarus Escapees will adapt the missing scene from chapter 220 as flashback since both arcs has Haibori Woods Hideout scene or Season 7 Final War will adapt the flashback of Creature Rejection Clan either way

In the joint training arc, the girl with the horns tells Shoji that he's scary and ugly, and iirc he responds that he knows that. Implying his familiarity with the sentiment.

about kodas quirk the difference between a human and an animal is their psychological capabilities. spinner is now closer to an animal than to a human, so maybe koda is getting a power boost and will be capable to force spinner to shut down his quirk, alowing shoji to reason with him

Shoji is the Professor X to Spinners Magneto.

It's certainly an interesting concept playing off of or reminiscent of the fight for civil rights. Like a battle of ideals between MLK and the "by all means necessary" Malcolm X, before he visited the middle east and changed his mindset. It also plays displays the dangers of emotional actions compared to reasoned and well-thought actions and how the results can impact societies and people individually. I'll stop there, but something I can relate to in different ways as an American who happens to be black. Good stuff though. As always. Thanks.

i always love the PASSIONATE "i love you" at the end of every video. thanks, plot armor. you give me love when nobody else does lol

Shoji’s one of my favourite characters. So I expected to cry when I saw his backstory revealed. But I wasn’t. I was more just angry. Like Mina I thought, “It would be a better world if they were dead”. And I notice in general, when faced with evil like that, that is my immediate reaction in the short term. But as I think about it more I feel I get more levelheaded. Thinking of non-violent alternatives. I think I would’ve ended up being a bit like Shoji, but it sort of depends on the place I was in. If I had been radicalised like Spinner when I was in that place of anger. Perhaps I would never have found my way out of it. There’s a quote from Bobby Cummines, “Once you’ve killed one, a dozen ain’t a big deal”. Once you submit to the darkness even a little, it is all the more difficult to pull yourself out of it.

Having faced discrimination, Sometimes my anger does peak at certain points. I can honestly say I can see myself on either side very easily. I'd even go as far as to say I would join spinner's side in anger alone at first but it depends on how serious things would get. I would think I would level my head out eventually before going too far But I would for sure be angry

Join Spinners side (violence, rioting etc. ) Means you've already lost the war. Systematic prejudism exists because racists like to "justify" it by framing retaliation as "savagery". The only way racism and prejudice can be put to rest once and for all is by following Shoji's path; instead of violence it's done through political lobbying and proper education

Spinner side feels like it's turning into a death cult which makes me think and Spinner isn't in control of it where ot matters his ideology is good but it has flaws.

TBH the X men thing is a bit more ambiguous It's been a lot since I read X men, but I think what Magneto wanted was a separate society of mutants, and that's what they do when they all move to a ship. Here Spinner just wants to smash humans. Obviously that's morally wrong. But if he wanted just independence the moral would be a lot grayer. Separatists might initially not want to hurt anyone but no state likes break-away republics.

It feels like all Class 1-A will have their spotlights on Final War Deku fight against Shigaraki aka All For One Bakugo also fight against Shigaraki with several Pro Heroes and Big 3 Shoto fight against Dabi Uraraka and Tsu fight against Toga and she will unleash Twice’s Blood to recreate Sad Man’s Parade Kirishima and Mina fight against Midnight’s Killer while Mineta is with the others to keep the villains from retrieving Gigantomachia Shoji fight against Spinner while Koda is fighting against the Heteromorphs of PLF to also keep them from retrieving Kurogiri Sero, Ojiro and Sato will probably fight against Gashly Aoyama is fighting alongside with Fat Gum to fight against Kunieda and Hagakure I don’t know what she will do will she be teaming up with Aoyama and Fat Gum or teaming up with Sero, Ojiro and Sato and several Class 1-B Iida is normally just Shoto’s aid and I don’t know will he have a spotlight and Kaminari is trying to keep the barrier lockdown to keep Shigaraki from escaping and Yaoyorozu is working along with Hatsume and the others underneath UA Fortress

Stain would be friggen awesome right now. He comes in slices their leader tastes his blood everyone of them sees him fall out of the sky. Stain then gains admiration of the mutants fighting against the heroes by appearing. Spinner then snaps out of his psychosis for a second just to admire the situation to see Stain just knock him down by tasting his blood. He then saves Shoji and Koda acknowledging them as true heroes while bringing in assistance from unknowns formed under his ideology. Leaving with some cool speech to turn the tide.

I will always be kinda salty about the anime adaptation for the My Villain Academia arc leaving out the scene where Shigaraki and the gang wiped out the Anti-Mutant cult i.e the MHA universes equivalent of the KKK

I think that there are two quirk in the mind chakra so he is not even able to complain, tell words or sentences. So I think that each chakra(in yoga) in the body from the head to toe is a different slot for quirk to work on.

Awesome job Plot Armor! Your breakdown in this chapter articulate that the lines of good and evil are not as black and white as the world would like you to believe. Followers follow a leader with ideals that align with their own. Doesn't mean to that heroes cannot make a difference to change the narrative to we are all trying to make it together in this world.

I don’t know that’s too big of a stretch since his quirk is anivoice, a quirk that allows him to talk to animals.

You can see the logic in Shoji's side. After all there are many mutant heroes who have shown that it's possible for humans and mutants to get along. However in Spinner's side you wonder what options does cooperating with humans give them? The problem here was how humans were treating mutants. It's so bad that they were willing to outright commit infanticide. And there was a genocide on mutants for no reason. They have so much bottled hatred and feelings of injustice in them that they have no idea what to do with it. At this point they view any action or atrocity they can commit as justified as that's what they have experienced. If some mutants die in the process so be it they would've died if they stayed around humans much longer or been tortured to death anyway. Furthermore they won't be convinced until they see justice done on the humans who harmed them for all their lives. If Shoji tries to convince them without giving them that then they would take matters in their own hands. And with this incident it's likely that mutants would be hated even more as they've proven that they're a threat and should be killed off before they can do more damage. It wouldn't matter to the humans that they were the ones who caused the problem. I don't see this being resolved without a lot of death unless there was either outright mind control or plot armor so thick it'd make the Susanoo look like paper.

It also brings up the question of how many people have to die before violence is an acceptable response. And by the time you got to that point, would it be too late At that point, what good does "the right thing" do if it has to at the cost of loads of lives of those being subject to the marginalization and all just to achieve the result those committing the crimes see them as equals Even if the result above is achieved, jow could one on the side of the discrimination and death not be furious at the end result? And that isn't ecen assuming that it doesnt become like the real world where even after all that the dsicrmination doesnt end and then just evolve to become more covert. With things like housing, loans, education, etc being witheld for mutants simply for being what they are I dont know if i could take Choji's side on this. Especially having lived in a world where all this has actually taken place and having seen what taking the higb road has yielded even after 400+ years. Knowing the levels of discrimination and death that still exist to this day

@@giovannimiranda1366 It might be even worse there since the problem isn't with humans from different parts of the world or with different skin color or religion. Since the mutants are born clearly looking not like humans and probably biologically different it's likely that things would be way more extreme that what we dealt with. It's possible that things might never get to the point where it becomes covert and things just go back to the status quo after a while. It's possible that at some point that mutants would just separate themselves from humans and make their own society that would constantly be hostile to humans. Even if it doesn't go to that point there would still be revolts and protests. The heroes at least the ones with a conscious wouldn't know who to support as if they supported humans then they would be encouraging the actions taken against mutants and if they join mutants than they'd have to help them take revenge on humanity. Actually if AFO wanted chaos then he could've just worked on this since as soon as heroes try to poke their nose in this and try to bring things under control or even protect someone during a violent protest everything would explode.

The mutants made their own mini planet called Krakoa where they could live away from the humans. So chose to go and tohers stayed on Earth But to get to the point of My Hero: This situation would actually be so much worse in the real world because at leasr MHA the author has the convenience of using All for One as a scapegoat to be the source of the mutant massacre as part of his overall plan. Which at least gives mutants a common enough enemy to align with humans at least temporarily. That is honestly where i think this particular pointof thebstory will ultimately lead Could you imagine if Horikoshi had thrown in the curveball of making us think it was OFA but then having it not been him at all? Or worse having him be one of the first people to offer the mutants protection/refuge after the fact This substory has become a lot more deep than the main story even though it actually adds into as another point of the world order right now being shit and so discriminatory that it might be better off just reseting/destroying everything Because it isnt even just the mutants. Theirs also people discriminatimg against all qurik user in general, and then individual quirks being hated/favored/fear compared to others. Bakugo has even been guilty of it when he was younger when he thought he was so much better than the others cause if his quirk. And Twice was killed because the heroes feared his quirk essentially The mutant issue just takes it all to a whole new level

@@giovannimiranda1366 Right, the society of MHA is constructed on quirks and heroes. In a society where there's a thousand quirks to do any job what point is there in hiring a normal human? 20% of the entire human population doesn't have a quirk which means that 20% of the human population will be facing discrimination at the fact that they aren't going to be able to do the things the remaining 80% can do better practically from birth no matter how hard they try to breach that gap. You can see this kind of thing in Izuku's life where Bakugo is praised for having a quirk while Izuku was neglected. It's obvious to any living organism that Bakugo was regularly bullying and beating Izuku and yet no one did anything to stop this because they view Izuku as being worthless as he doesn't have a quirk. These issues would just start to get worse as the quirkless people reach adulthood as with their not ideal quirk of nothing they won't be able to get far in life. They'd likely be forced to work dead end jobs at ridiculously low pays just to stay alive no matter how good their education is. I can bet you that many small time criminals in the MHA world are quirkless people. Fueled by the unjust society that exists now. Where people are just born better and their lacking circumstances it's likely they would take their anger out on the very same society that shuns them. It's almost like the world of MHA is shifted into a class system, depending on your quirk you'll get a higher status in society.

15:23. It depends on where'd I'd had to have been born. If I were born in a village like Shoji and hadn't had the chance to save a life I'd most definitely be moved by Spinner's army, However if I were born into the city were the prejudice is less commonplace I'd most likely be on the Heroes side. Shoji is quickly becoming one of my favourite characters though, I just wish he got more panel-time so we'd know more about him by now.

I think it depends on the level of hurt levied against the persons, and how they deal with that rather than their background. If you could equate it to being poor, some people would rather wallow in that poor livelihood and make bad decisions that see them only sink further into such a life. Others are determined to not let a poor background stop them, working harder to be accepted despite said background. The same could be said for the mutant population in MHA, as no matter what your background you still have to try to find some place in society. We see that despite being pretty average, Izuku still suffers bullying and is told to commit seppuku. Yet, he manages to persevere. How much of that isn't able to be separated by his acceptance as the student of All Might. However, the point stands. Despite being an average looking human with green hair he still suffers, whether he suffers as much as Spinner is unimportant. He still suffers, he still is forced to either give in and give up or continue on. I think those who are mutants who decide to not pick either side and those that pick the side of the heroes, are the ones to be admired and followed. However, I would be lying if I said I didn't find myself on the same side as Spinner. That type of pain isn't easily swept under the rug, being hunted because you look different isn't a new concept in our race's history. While it isn't racism in the world of MHA, it certainly can be applied to the issues in humankind's past.

its true that in this society using violence to get your point through is not very effective especially when its about such sensitive topics like discrimination, of course depending on the situation violence may be the way to go but in this scenario instead of getting wrapped in someone's manipulation i would rather take my time collecting information like stain and act based on that. of course this just my analysis as third party perspective and i do realize that i times likes this rejecting the majority could cost your life.

I've always thoguht Koda looked like a tree, just by his design. What if the growths on his head are part a quirk awakening and he can now house insects like bees, wasps and other nesting creatures. It would go well with his Ani-voice quirk

I feel like Shoji and Spinner are two sides of the same coin. Two mutants abandoned by the same area they were born in just because they looked different, but the difference is how they used that anger. But on the topic, I would be Shoji

Koda will just unleash Bugging Out and Hitchcock Birds but he will finally name the ultimate moves and Shoji will unleash Octowings or Octorush

I wouldve probably have started off on Spinners side but after listening to Shojis dialogue its hard not to switch sides. So Id end up fighting with Shoji.

Anyone else got a bad feeling that this is fore-shadowing Shojis death? Causing the mutant army to stand down or turn on spinner

I've already been forced into a similar situation on a moral level. Happily would choose Shoji's side again. Made me a better person today for having made that choice before, so it would be a no Brainer (sorry Spinner) to make the same choices again. "Choosing good, breeds good within the soul."

As a person of color I know what it's like to be hated and feared for my appearance, I would still stand with Shoji. Regardless of appearance we are in the end all human

Shoji is gonna be a lynchpin in the hero's fight against the heteromorphs. He has the experience, and the visible scars to show he has suffered. If koda can keep the spider from talking, Shoji might be able to win the fight of ideals

My guess is that the next character focus will be either on Sero, Fat Gum and Aoyama; or Kirishima, Mina and the others vs the Midnight killer OR Uraraka, Tsu vs Toga; though this one, according to me, might come late.

I would say Fat Gum and Aoyama vs Kunieda will be first after Shoji vs Spinner and Present Mic, Rock Lock and Koda vs Heteromorphs of PLF, second is Sero, Ojiro and Sato along with several Class 1-B like Tsuburaba and Shishida vs Gashly, third is Kirishima and Mina vs Midnight’s Killer while Mineta, Mt Lady, Honenuki, Yangai and Kodai is fighting against Sludge Villain and other warriors of PLF, fourth is Uraraka and Tsu vs Toga and Twice’s Blood and after all 4 fights then it shifted back between Dabi tries to kill Shoto after he’s powerless and All For One rewind end his fight against Endeavor and Hawks and disappears to fully complete merging with Shigaraki and Endeavor, Hawks, Tokoyami and Jiro will split up like Endeavor and Hawks will save Shoto and round 2 will be Endeavor vs Dabi instead of Shoto and Tokoyami and Jiro will meet up with Shoji and Koda and then it shifted back to Deku vs Shigaraki aka All For One to settle the final battle after UA Fortress crash 💥 like these 2 will fight up to the sky or outer space 🪐 either way
