The thing I've always loved about Stephen's playing is that he knows when to blast you with a great riff and when to sit back and let the song breath. So many other players let their ego control their playing and drown the song with unnecessary noise. Brilliant.

Yep. Eddie Van Halen does it, behind the nut, about 15 seconds in on VH's first album, for the intro to 'Running w the devil'. And Brian May does it, i believe, in 'Bohemian Rhapsody' at the "sends shivers down my spine" bar.

I’ve been absolutely waiting to see a play-through of this song, Maynard and Chino vocals switch so seamlessly. It makes the perfect atmosphere

The atmosphere on this song is off the chart. There are plenty of duets in music but I don't know if you will find a song that exemplifies two singer's talent better than Passenger. Plus Stephen's creative use of harmonics really add to the atmosphere of the song. This is perfection.

Very hot take but I agree. It’s a much better song when Chino performs it by himself. When I first heard it I was blown away, holy shit Maynard is on this!? Crazy. But it became my least favorite on WP very fast and I couldn’t figure out why lol

Defotones played this live with the lead singer from rise against... never thought I would hear it live and as much as I wished Maynard was singing. Rise against singer killed it! Was a wicked experience. That was rock on the range back in 2009. Ranger for life!!!

Pretty sure this was the first Deftones song I heard. All these years later and they've become my fav metal band and I've even covered a song from this album live with my band.

An absolute legend that created his own, unique sound.

I found this song out in drop C# but now seeing how Stephen played this song I realized I've been playing the style completely wrong. My respect to Stephen Carpenter. He's a guitar wizard in the metal community.
