Deftones - Cherry Waves (Drum Cover)
Музыка
I’m a Canadian who likes to play drums. What you hear is one unedited take with no sample replacement or funky magic besides mixing and mastering. Audio and video are from the same playthrough, warts and all. Hope you like it. Leave some song suggestions for me in the comments. Thanks for watching!
I got into Deftones way too late but I'm doing my best to catch up. This one is a little rough around the edges and it was filmed before I got the tuning locked down on the snare, but what can you do?

This is hands down one of the top deftones drum covers out there . I’ve watched it numerous times and it keeps bringing me back to why I fell in love with the deftones years ago. Thank you man

I took a few creative liberties with them haha, but I really appreciate it!
This song single handedly brought my passion for drumming back. I used to be in a band about 3 years ago when I lived in another state, we played our own original music, we were all so passionate for the music we were playing, the feeling I had while playing for that band is indescribable. Sadly, I had to move states, which caused the band to fizzle out. I haven’t played drums for about 2 years and haven’t felt that push to try and get back into it, until I started listening to deftones. My first meeting with my new instructor is this coming Tuesday, and this is the song he’s going to try and teach me. I have been studying this cover over and over again for days and I just want to say you are extremely talented and I hope to soon be able to play the song like you do.

@@ScottDincorn what he said. I’m currently playing alot of Deftones songs and your cover will really help us to learn the song better e.g. the chop fills, the time changes, the number of cymbal hits and also when the 16ths on the hi hats come in. Also the “escape” part with the big crescendo near the end. Anyway spot on cover thanks for all the help 👍🏻

Great job! You nailed the fill at 1:20 which I always missed. It felt early but actually fits perfectly with the transition. Also got the switch on the open hi-hat in the 2nd verse from the 8th to the 9th count. Lots of subtleties in this song which make it amazing.

I love to hear this. Try to enjoy the journey and not be too hard on yourself as you learn and progress! It's okay to have goals and to push yourself, but it should be a fun and expressive adventure above all else. Remember that just by taking the plunge and starting to play, you're already successful and already an artist. Best of luck in learning and finding your musical voice! You're doing a good thing.

Solid cover, great sound quality. What type of crashes are you using?
@ScottDincorn
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I'm using all Sabian cymbals. This one's got an 18" Vault Tour prototype crash. It's real thin, a mix between the AAX thin crash and the HHX Legacy crash I'd say. I've also got one of the 2019 20" AAX thin rides.
What drum setup do you have in this video? I want to get some of those cymbals cuz I wanna play this song SOOO bad. Also amazing cover very accurate👍
@ScottDincorn
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot! I was using 14" AAX Stage Hats (since replaced with 14" AAX Thin Hats), a 20" AAX Thin Ride, and a couple of prototypes for the left crash and china, both 18". An 18" AAX Thin Crash or HHX Legacy Crash would be decently comparable I think, but I haven't seen a china quite like this one. If I had to replace it I'd probably get a Holy China, they sound so good.

can you pls make a tutorial video for this song i want to learn it but theres no tutorials for it ),:
Does anyone know what the cymbal all the way to the right is?
@ScottDincorn
11 ай бұрын
Hello! I've got the full list in the description, but that's a Sabian 18" AAX prototype china. Back in 2009 they did a Vault Tour at music stores across Canada and I happened upon one in my area without realizing it, haha. I have a couple others I was lucky enough to pick up that day, the 18" crash on my left being one of them. The lathing and hammering on the china eventually became their Omni lineup, which I found sounded a little different in a bad way for my tastes, but I don't think the Omni line ever officially had a china, so it's a bit of a rare item for me!
Saw your shout out on Rich Raw Dwag and came over to check you out and sub!

honest question, can an electronic drum kit produce that sound from his snares?
@ScottDincorn
Жыл бұрын
With the right samples in software like Superior Drummer (or whatever the folks are using now) you can find pretty much whatever sound you want! I can't be specific since I don't really know much personally, but with all of the studio projects I've seen my brother work on, it seems like pretty much no drum sound is out of reach.

Hello! The cymbal on my right is technically a ride, but it's a 20" thin variety, so pretty close to a crash. In my more recent covers you can see some big boys on the kit I've picked up since this video, haha.
