Great tips Owen on the spraying.. Very good. And those people who nay say food plots are flat out jealous they cant do their own place.. That's it.. They can go do what they need to do along with kick some rocks,... I have made a great hunting living never owning more than 8.5 acres... I hunted less than 5 for a long time. It can be done and is so rewarding no matter the land owned. IMO, you guys have great access and doens t quite speak to a lot of us everyday guys... BUT... you inspire me to do more and hope for more... We cant all be farm owners. My dad is 77 years old and hunted the same 15 acres for 40 years in Midland Michigan... and quite honestly never had great success in todays standard. Does and super small bucks. I used to want more land, but it is a lot of work for the 9-5 people. I live on the land and still cant get done everything I want... Its work... Id say just take what you can get and love what you have. Middle Tn has been good to me.

Its probably years before I see bigger deer where I am. I have a lot of hunters around, but also increasing food and I have tagged out every year I been here. 3 deer seasons and I can say my harvests have seen better antlers each year. Having said that, I dont need giant deer to be happy. I take what I have available and pass what doesnt excite me. I thought being northern Tn Id see better deer, but I dont have much ag within a mile of me. Best deer seem to show up late season and they arent huge racked.. Ive seen some giant bodies for my area though late. I am trying to make my small parcel a mecca and judging by surrounding properties, I will have THE place.... I dont have enough to hold, but I can sure make what I have the best place around. I was blessed with a pond already installed and a great travel corridor. I can do the rest... Cant wait to see the MWW guys show us what they are after this fall.

Very informational episode. The best tip for success was the one about lining your food sources up for deer travel. Pulling up a map to make that plan now!

Great episode from Owen as usual.. When guys live whitetails like Owen, they can use years of experimenting and making mistakes to perfect food plots . One thing I've had good luck with when using a no til drill for cereal grains is to mix some brassica in the small box at the same time..using a lower than normal setting, you get some brassica mixed in with the cereal grain.

Also, would like to encourage you to stop trying to justify your style of hunting. I do food plots on a much smaller scale and I think anyone who has the means would. You’ve worked hard it’s obvious to most of us, so there is no reason to be ashamed when you’re able to capitalize on the effort. Plus you’ve opened up yourself, your knowledge and experiences for all of us to benefit. I’ve enjoyed every one of your segments and hunts. Those Iowa deer are awesome can’t wait to see what you have this fall. Stay humble and keep doing what you do!

Like you said, the price of land is outrageous. That isn't even factoring in the farm equipment and other things needed to make plots. Making this happen just isn't possible for 99.5% of us.

I agree with pretty much everything Owen says. I'm wondering if you (Owen) have considered cover cropping to reduce chemicals and fertilizer?

Kurt, first off thank you for watching and following along with the video. We really appreciate that! The cover crop question is one I'll be sure to reach out to Owen and see if we can't get an answer as to his thought process. Have a great week ahead!

Do you fertilize before or after you plant your target crop for the year? The fallow ground for instance do you kill it, plant then fertilize?

I don’t have any tricks. But I do have a hide whole food plot, and wondering if you could give some advice, what should I plant? I have some corn in it all readying, but is there something else I could plant?

Assuming that the plot is tucked next to cover from the "Hidey Hole" term, you could assume you will encounter some crop damage from wildlife. A few different options exist so I'll list out some that come to mind. If you don't have the ability to replant into the corn similar to Owen, a great option would be the Overcast blend from MonsterBuck. If you don't have wildlife damage, this is still a great blend to utilize to offer a palatable food source throughout the fall. Rye Ludwig showcased how broadcasting that particular seed blend into wildlife damaged corn still provided a very viable food source well into the fall and got a shot off at an Iowa giant. Check out this video for more information on that and start at timecode 6:00 for Overcast specifically. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nWqsyqaMls-8lLg.htmlsi=Ki48XFL1N4piildG If you have the intention of replacing some of the space already utilized by the corn, you could follow a similar path to Owen's plan and intentionally carve out a "micro kill plot" for lack of a better term. In the perfect world, the corn goes untouched and you're able to carve out a spot with good access similar to "Death Row" like Owen covers in this video. Green next to ag can be killer and Monsterbuck has many options for that. It's a little late to establish a brand new clover plot for hunting this fall but you could benefit greatly from a fall blend. A lot of our team will be planting "Rut Greens Plus Cold Climate" from Monsterbuck which is a mix of Pasja Hybrid Forage Brassica, Bonar Rape, Purple Top Turnips, Appin Turnips, Barkant Turnips, Bayou Kale, and Fixation Balansa Clover. Whatever you end up going with, good luck to you this coming fall and thank you for taking the time to watch an episode of Midwest Whitetail. We greatly appreciate it!

I have seen that one, but I think I will watch it again, I am using the corn as my covered to get to my stand. I seen this technique used in midwest whitetails, and I said to myself “you should do that” so I did. My food plot is on the east side of the timber, and in the timber. Next to the bedding area, like 30 yards away . Maybe a little bit of a bad idea, but it did good this past year. (I live in South West Missouri)Thank you all for having good content and may your season go well.

Be glad you don’t have to deal with dog hunters for 2.5 months. Food plots are constantly over run with hounds 7 days a week. So frustrating. I’m hunting less and less as I get older and doing more fishing.
