I had been trying to buy this game (the base version) for years! Then I sort of...gave up. Only to find out they ran a kickstarter with re-prints, that I completely missed out on. =( Sad me.

There is something good here, and I imagine it could be fixed, but had to be honest that as things stand now this game is not worth having.

similiar to what what i felt. If you get a couple of bad rolls in the beginning, the enemies stacks up and its impossible to continue. Can only solve 1 event/turn. So if you miss just one, its going to stack up. If you go managed to get to mid-game, you get too powerful and its bascially just grinding.

It's not too bad here. You get the dice back VERY easily... maybe too easily :)

Any gameplay BTW? Also if I only have dd6 the original is it worth just to keep this?

It wasn't fun enough to play to put in the time for a playthrough video, sorry! And for your second question, the original game is fun, so I would just stick with that one and not mess with Armada.

Thanks for another solid, honest review. I played this many times with my PnP copy and gave up having never won once. Got old after a while. Was curious to see how the published version improved things, and based on the review, not much! Haha So thanks for saving me some money that’s better spent elsewhere 👍🏻

It definitely became winnable in the published version. Perhaps too much so… :)

I kickstarted this and yeah the games a mess if played by the rules in the game. I feel like there is a great game here but it requires a major rewrite of the rules. I love the combat and explore mechanics but everything needs more feeling of trade-offs in the choices you make like maybe treat empty spaces on the ship be ships quarters so you are making a choice between more crew or better devices.

Yes, totally agree, more trade-offs and more choices so you don’t have this constant build up until you are unstoppable (assuming you don’t have terrible luck and die right at the start!)

I agree completely with this review. I found the game very unbalanced which the designer attempted to fix but I believe it is far too easy. Beyond the base rules there were limits placed on crew and how many die you can role for a given encounter. That balances it a bit but still was way too easy. The grind is boring and the components are too fidgety. Pulling an encounter envolves drawing a token from a bag, finding it's card, then placing the token. Fleets require matching numbered tokens to be searched for and placed when a new fleet is generated. I ended up using dice to mark them but it's still a pain. I love the idea and the art of this game. It just isn't fun.

Good call on the fiddliness. I also found workarounds for the fleets, but ideally the game wouldn't force you to :)

This was one of my most disappointing Kickstarters. Great idea, but very poorly executed.

I LOVE FTL and other roguelike spaceship games, but yeah this missed the mark sadly :(

This comment is from a Mike Club in the future. I just picked up this game for seven dollars and came to find if it was a good deal or not. I love my copy of the original tiny Deep Space D6
