This is the 2nd video I have watched of Jeff's review of a game. I really enjoy the presentation and critical thoughts. Specifically the no hype attitude on the game and its mechanics. If he likes it, he likes it. If he doesn't, he doesn't. No need to shower with praise or need to show disdain. The alternative views by other players at the end of the video was refreshing allowing different takes on their experience, making the review not a live or die by Jeff. Can't wait to see more from Jeff.

Hey Eddie! Jeff here! Thanks for the kind words! While I'm working on the next DT video, I do have some slightly older stuff out on Tabletop Toolbox! I'm far more active on the Dice Tower, but there's a nice backlog of my Board Game Breakfast clips out on my channel if you want to check them out. Cheers!

I was just about to post about the same thing, but since you already did, I figured I'd just tack on my praise for the production quality of the video, as well. :-) This must have taken a ton of work to do. Bravo!

Great review! I came here because I really needed to make sure it wasn’t just my group. And I totally agree with everything. We kept saying while we were playing that we enjoy it, but it needs some fixes. We had a hard time with the rule book layout and had so much trouble finding any answers. We had so many problems deciphering how certain upgrades work, as we found the 2 with misprints, which led to one of our ships just decimating any fleet we fought because we were playing it vastly wrong but the only thing that says so is the BGG forum. The punishment for firing was basically nothing so any combat our juggernaut wasn’t in lost all tension. We still loved it. It’s got good bones. But I’d seek out a corrected rule book, have bgg forums ready, and be prepared to house rule.

Played this with my son and the game took forever as well. The basic dice are terrible, can sometimes go multiple rounds without getting a single attack die. Haven't tried the two blanks make a wild. The enemies also really ought to scale up for a better game arc, would be good if the cards were ranked by tier and the deck seeded to get lower tier ships first. The fleets do get bigger, increasing challenge, but some of the enemy cards are individually very powerful and can show up at any time. Once you get a few upgrades the game gets much more playable. My wife tried this game as well but found it very unbalanced, then she went back and tried the original and found it much more fun. Great review though. I was wondering if this game would ever hit the Dice Tower network. Hope to see more from you Jeff.

I played once this game and after two hours no datachip token was found. Maybe if players could draw one away mission after completing a set number of missions than it would add to the game's difficulty and prevent it from ending too early or too soon.

Awesome review. Great work with the recap of its previous game and video game inspiration. The Lego opening is a nice bonus. Also love your camera work. Makes me think of SU&SD, which is definitely a good thing. The review part went into good depth of both problems and perks without feeling overly biased. This Knapp guy has become my new favourite Dice Tower reviewer! Looking forward to your next video!

Wow. Amazingly well done review. Would be great even without the stop motion animation, but it definitely put it over the top. Was very curious about this game and am a huge FTL fan. I hope we can see a final more refined expression at some point.

I agree with everything you said. I also backed this game on Kickstarter and I love the graphic design and art, but sadly this game has way too many problems. I was hoping your video would show me a different perspective that I missed or perhaps I played something wrong, but it looks like this is a common sentiment.

The original game had rules problems as well. They were badly written, unclear and had rules missing. On top of that, the rules for a specific ship were on the flip side of that ship itself which meant that if you had to reference the rules for that ship, you had to disturb the things on the ship board. Bad design and bad rules. Once these were sorted, the game was good and would have been very good if more ships and enemies had been released. This is why I hesitated and still hesitate in purchasing Deep Space D6: Armada. I know there'll be a good game there on second or third iteration. For the original game, the designer essentially said that his design and rules were good and it was our fault for not understanding them and writing rules was hard and we should quit bitching about it. I'm glad he changed his tune for this new game. If he comes out with a second edition or if this edition comes out very cheap, then I'll get a copy.

The components are really nice in this game but the game arc is really unbalanced. Very common to get totally trashed on the first turn.

I agree with you on Deep Space D-6. I bought it after he fixed it including the expansion. The upgrade system in D-6 was great as it gave a purpose to dice that couldn't fit anywhere else. I feel like there is always a place for my dice. Tony probably needs to change the upgrade system to something similar where the player gets agency instead of getting random upgrades. This review was great and certainly solidifies me holding off on purchasing Armada. I will wait for the expansion plus rules fix as well.

FTL (Faster Than Light) is one brutal video game... agreed. That is a game that definitely requires some time (and luck) to master.

Amazing video for an absolute letdown of a game. My wife and I tried to love Armada, but it felt like a only half-designed husk of a game stricken with many halfbaked systems.

I have been watching some of my kids attempt the old 8 and 16 bit catalog available on the Switch. It was pretty brutal and they soon moved on back to the modern stuff. We were either that much more tougher or desperate.

The skills needed to beat NES games don't translate to FTL. Being good at action platformers, shumps, and grindy RPGs isn't going to provide the player with the skills needed to beat a strategic game. You're comparing a game that requires planning, understanding of the systems, and optimizing choices to games that reward muscle memory.
