If you are wheelchair bound by chance, the owners told me it is wheelchair accessible! I'm sure they wouldn't mind digging you a few buckets, but I could bring someone along to assist you! Happy Hunting!

Still worth the trip in a wheelchair if you can team up with one or two more able bodied rockhounds to go hunting with. Easy access, not down a long trail. Not to mention while you are there you can visit the nearby Gem and Mineral Museum in Franklin, NC. Get in contact with some locals that share the same passion in your area if you aren't too far away and you will surely find an easygoing crew to team up with for a final expedition or two :)

My family ran the Jacob's Ruby Mine from around 1995 to 2001. (Right next to Shuler, Holbrook and Gibson, the 3 original mines.) Most of the unsalted mines are gone. Glad there's a little left. The heyday was probably 1950's to 1990's although lots of salted mines the last few decades in that time range.
