It’s notable that anapanasati includes contemplation of impermanence so that there is no risk of jhana becoming an ignorant dwelling. Contemplating impermanence while in Jhana leads immediately to dispassion, disenchantment, and disowning the aggregates and any states

Interestingly, Jhana is sometimes even _called_ "non-lust" or even "dispassion" in the Suttas. I would thus even say that Jhana alerady _is_ dispassion that you can ingrain into deeper elvels of the mind so that passion ma yno longer arise!

@@TheDhammaHub i compare the perception of impermanence to being sold a cheap watch, let’s say a 20 dollar Casio. You don’t get too passionate about that 20 dollar (Euro?) watch because you see that it will break soon enough. But if someone gives you a Rolex, you feel great passion because THAT watch will “last forever.” The perception of permanence creates passion and clinging. The perception of impermanence creates dispassion and non-clinging.

“Even the most exalted states and the most exceptional spiritual accomplishments are unimportant if we cannot be happy in the most basic and ordinary ways, if we cannot touch one another and the life we have been given with our hearts. One does not gain liberation through reification. Nor does one free oneself from samsara through nihilism.. By thoroughly understanding existence and non-existence, the great beings obtain liberation.”

I can see 3 of your comments - I think KZread holds them back for a while if someone writes many at roughly the same time
