This classic rock song is 50 years old and there are still many young people jamming to it today. It makes me very hopeful that even 50 years from now when all the original head bangers like me have died off like the dinosaurs that we are, there will still be young listeners jamming to this in 2072 and beyond. Deep Purple will never die.🤘

I was a teenager when this album broke and it was playing all over the place in the 70's, outside in the school parking lot, cars on the local strip, on the radio, local bands were trying to cover DP's stuff it was a great time for music and a great time to be a teenager. I still have my original LP from decades ago. This song was an under rated BANGER with R&B at its roots..

This is my absolute fave DP tune, and IMO, it's one of the BEST rock songs from the era! And even though I was a bigger Zeppelin fan, in terms of money spent on albums, this DP song up there with, if not above, any Zep tune, for me! This damn song has EVERYTHING you could possibly want from this type of band during that era! I think Dee really liked it, too! And her comment at the end was RIGHT ON THE MONEY! Good on you, Dee, for recognizing and loving the very things that make this song so unique! There is NO moment in this song where any repetition goes on too long! And the song (especially when listened to without stopping) just moves you along at a faster and more compex place with the cool transitions, and yet coming back to a main theme WITHOUT it being repetetive! ONE of the best rock songs EVER. Great reaction guys! Congrats on 50K! Looking forward to tomorrow!

Very HEAVY ORGAN on them, raspy female vocals, i dare to say that the organ player is a Jon Lord but in steroids lol. There are two songs here on KZread of them playing "How the Gypsy was Born" and "Take Care of Ilusion" live on studio, its just a treasure for organ listeners. Some slightly off the beaten track but great songs by Purple: With all of these the original studio versions are best: "Rat Bat Blue" -- 1973, fantastic organ solo!; "Woman from Tokyo" -- this one was a hit so it's not off the beaten track but it's a great tune,; "Bloodsucker", 1970, great Ian Gillan vocals; "Smooth Dancer", 1973, more very good organ; "No One Came", 1971, really cool track. "Lay Down, Stay Down", next iteration of the band with 2 different singers, 1974, off of the "Burn" album, the drums on this song are f'ing unbelievable; "You Fool No One", also off "Burn", great funky track; "You Keep On Moving", 1975 with Tommy Bolin on guitar -- in my top 10 all-time songs, an outstanding composition, so good in a lot of ways. "Gettin' Tighter", also with Tommy Bolin on guitar, a tremendous rocker with Glenn Hughes shining on vocals. "Knocking On Your Back Door", 1984, you did a live version but the studio version is so much better!

Year, I noticed that many reactors thinks Lords Hammond is Ritchie playing the guitar. The opposite has happened a lot if time due to Mr. Blackmore refusing to do an encore. It happend when I saw them in Stockholm 1987. But we who heard Smoke OnThe Water that evening without Blackmore couldn't tell the difference when the riff was played. Jon also plays the riff on the album simultaneously as Blackmore on the album.

The reason John Lord Got that sound from a Hammond B-3 was by playing through a bank of Marshall guitar amps.
