"Made In Japan" (1972), recorded on the "Machine Head" tour, captured Deep Purple Mk II in all its glory. Harri my Dad reacted the exact same way back in '72. His reaction was "What in God's Green Earth did you just do to me Son!" It must be shocking coming off your Four Seasons reaction to this whirlwind of pure eargasmic delight...lol. I knew you would appreciate this one, and not just because of the harmonica lol. You can NEVER go wrong with DP. And they just released their 22nd studio album last year. 53 years and still doing it. Sadly keyboardist Jon Lord passed about a decade ago, and lead guitarist Blackmore left the band in the early 90's, but their replacements are great, if not quite as spectacular. Every song is special.

So many great Deep Purple tracks . Jon Lord was the keyboard player , I think he was Royal College of Arts trained ? He wrote a whole album where Deep Purple played with an orchestra a mix of classical and rock music . When I was young we used to adore this music and first saw the band live in 1973 , we had a lot of great bands at that time Led Zep , Sabbath , Jethro Tull , Budgie , Be Bop De luxe .Purple could go from Soft Rock to Hard Rock , anyone’s Daughter and when a blind man cries examples of the soft side to Speed King on the hard side . Recommend tracks to try Speed King and Mistreated , glad you enjoyed this Harri

It was the Summer of '72, me and a couple of friends had been camping at a part of the Catskill Creek called Half Moon, where there is a sand beach, 100 ft wide water, and 60 to 70 ft high Cliffs across from our camp. My friend Sally drove down and had to New Tapes with her, "The Inner Mounting Flame" by John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra, and "Machine Head" by Deep Purple "! Hearing that sound, reflecting off the water and echoing from the cliffs was Insane! One of the All Time Great Rock Albums, along with Sgt Pepper's, Allman Brothers Live at the Filmore, Dark Side of the Moon etc. It was the Platinum Years of Rock!

This has always been my favorite of several great Purple songs, such a display of musicianship for a simple straight-ahead bluesy rock song. Keyboards, guitar, and drums all excel, played with a visceral quality but with such precision and feeling and momentum that you just don't find very often.

In 2012 they invited various artists to perform the songs from this album as 40th anniversary tribute. They picked Joe Bonamassa and Jimmy Barnes (from Cold Chisel) to do this song. In many ways it rocks even more but does lack the harmonica. There is even a video of the recording session.

Excellent review dude. Knowing what was coming I paid special attention to your reactions on cue. Deep Purple was possibly the loudest band ever. People had been known to be knocked unconscious standing too close to the speakers😵 back in the early seventies. Driving music? Yeah in the early 70s I had a couple Long play Memorex cassette tapes and deep purple was on the playlist. There are driving songs and this is one of them. Right up there with "Radar Love". But it's good flying music too. I remember listening to Machine Head in 1973 when flying missions in Vietnam.

I know the Neve console was made in the UK ( what a legendary console Rupert Neve ) plus many others. You have elements of straight, classical church, organ style, then shifting to a very hard swing, which is very UN-classical. here’s another bit for your appreciation, the London, cast of Jesus Christ superstar, the fella who played Jesus, is this singer! @@user_aikensfinest_md it's family fun for all. You'd have to be a Lawrence Welk fan to not enjoy this. I thought Harri was gonna come out his chair....lol
Was tickled pink to see your reaction to this - it's my favorite Deep Purple tune
Yeah, that was back in the days, when 'Stereo' came out, you could put on a headphone, and feel like you are in a concert. I even had a 'quadro headphone, I could hardly fit on my head, LOL, Seen them about 10 times live, they were part of the early 70's European concert and festival circle, along with Taste, Edgar Broughton Band, Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath, etc, etc. Those were the days.
Ah, my all-time favorite band! I 💜 Deep Purple!
Deep Purple is very much my favorite band, so I'm extremely pleased to see someone enjoying this track so thoroughly. God bless!

@@erichmartin4530 I’m a big Whitesnake fan as well ! . My wife didn’t like rock music and preferred soul and David Cassidy 🤮, so I took her to a Snake concert , and afterwards she said it was the best concert she had ever been to ❤️, she then went out on a £300 shopping spree 🤔
For the past 50 years, this song has been my number one song when I want to get down to some real rock 'n roll! So very glad you finally gave it a listen, Harri!!!
Such incredible talent came out of the era. Nobody jams like this anymore. I’m glad I grew up then.
What a brilliant reaction mate! Welcome to the Church of Purple Harri! We're multinational, inter-denominational and still worship the superb musicianship of the band that continues to record and play to this day! You'll have a lot of back catalogue to get through though! :-D

Quote “The music doing damage to the neighborhood”! That's what it did during my time. Original & legendary group 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Try ‘When a Blind Man Cry’s’ and ‘Child in Time.’ Both are available live. Oh they are my favourite band of all time 🤘🎸🎸
That lineup with these 5 men was a true collection of all star musicians.
Brilliant reaction to a brilliant song. Who does not rate Lazy as a work of art? Insane eh. Love it.
Made in Japan ,lazy ,child in time ‘ , smoke on the water live this may be the best live performance ever better than the studio
What a joy to see you enjoying and freaking out on Lazy / Deep Purple :-)
I love your reactions.you are right on.awesome totally awesome. Love it
one my all time fav group.
Deep Purple brings it!! Love this reaction! Thanks, Harri
This is one of the few hard rock groups I enjoyed in the 60's-70's. My favorites are their covers of Joe South's "Hush" & Neil Diamond's "Kentucky Woman". Also like "Smoke On The Water", "Child In Time", "Woman From Tokyo", "Highway Star", "Fireball", Speed King", "Space Truckin'", etc.

I totally agree with ronforman. Check out the video of this and other classic Deep Purple songs performed in the Made In Japan videos. Deep Purple MKII which I think is the best line up of this legendary band were really at the top of their game!
One of my preferred songs of DP, these guys are just amazing
My favorite Deep Purple song!!
I'm glad you loved it, and you should. This is a top 5 album all-time in my opinion. Great reaction!
Great reaction Harri to a great song. This is such an awesome album, the only one better is Made in Japan. This lineup of Deep Purple is my favorite...Ian Gillian-vocals, Roger Glover-bass, Ian Paice-drums and Ritchie Blackmore-guitar. Please, please treat yourself to the live version video from Made in Japan.
Super Group.
Love your reaction to this. My older brother introduced me to Deep Purple in the mid 70's and "Lazy" has always been my favorite jam from them. Machine Head is such a great album that I feel ALL of the tracks should have been #1. This CD is in my number 1 slot in my truck!
One of the greatest Blues Jams ever. They rock hard! If you'd like to hear another great blues based jam, give a listen to Loan Me A Dime by Boz Scaggs with a bit of help from Duane Allman.
Saw them in Detroit on their Perfect Strangers Tour. Jon Lord is phenomenal. As well as the rest of the band. One of the loudest concerts I've been to. Being from Detroit I've heard some of the loudest concerts recorded. COBO
A rock classic from from a great rock album Harri, every track is a winner, and with the late great Jon Lord on keyboards and Ritchie and co all on the top of their game. What a fantastic band to grow up with, it slayed ya Harri!
The best reaction to any song I've ever heard
Lovely to see you enjoying this great great band Harri. So many from this band for you to marvel at. Jon Lord on keys, the best imo. Could I suggest from the same wonderful album a track called Pictures of Home. Keep up the enthusiasm my friend.
Thank God I was born at the right time to experience this as a teenager
I don’t think there is a band that was so much ‘of the time’ as Deep Purple. The organ! The bass! The voice! It all screams the late 60s, early 70s.
DP Mk 2 the best heavy rock band ever. Lazy is great song on this iconic album. For me Jon Lord on keys was the difference that put DP ahead of Led Zepp. So many great DP songs in that era. On that Machine Head LP just pick any song and it is a winner. For driving and getting a ticket try Speed King and Highway Star the most famous speeding songs ever. They will knock your socks off.
This was fun watching you enjoy this, Deep Purple is great
YEAH! It ROCKS! I love this, so Bluesy, wild intro :)
This is one of my favorite bands and my favorite song from this band other than Sweet Child in Time. Check that out as well. God bless
Awesome song.. Awesome reaction.. 😎🤘💯💯
Every member of this band top notch. The drummer keeping the swing going. Richie what can you say, Lord on organ, just a great band
Great band Harri. Glad you reacted to them. Space Truckin off this same album it great also. Flight of the Rat is a good one also off the Deep Purple in Rock album. Jon Lord is one of the best rock keyboard players there ever was. Lazy live in Copenhagen Denmark is a good one also. 1972.

I think Kieth Emerson was the only keyboardists to surpass him imo.
Deep Purple were masters of the Leslie spinning for the Organ sound. :)
This is up with greatest albums ever.
Welcome to Deep Purple Harri . This is from their Machine Head album . Roger Glover on bass . Ritchie Blackmore on guitar . Ian Gillan on vocals and harmonica . Ian Paice on drums . Jon Lord on keyboards .
I went to Montreux in Switzerland all because of this album, from Australia. A pilgrimage.
Fantastic stuff indeed!!
Nothing sounds like a B3 with a Leslie cabinet!!! Spread the love Harri😎🇺🇸 And in reference to Jon's touch...the keyboard is a percussion instrument😉
The whole album is nothing but vibes and grooves and excellence. Every. Last. Track. 😀
Loved your reaction to this! I just love seeing people reacting to this song for the first time. It is astounding!
You HAVE to listen to the live album "Made in Japan". It's Deep Purple at the absolute HEIGHT of their musical powers. Jon Lord and Roger Glover with Ian on the drum kit LIVE? Holy Man
I could say the amazing Jon Lord. I can say the amazing Ritchie Blackmore. I can say the amazing Ian Gillan, I can say the Ian Paice and yes the amazing Roger Glover. There was never a more amazing band when they tried.
Been listening to that song for 50years! Still blows me away
i grew up with deep purple's music, glad to know you love it dude 👍
A classic song that hasn't lost it's soul. A real treat to listen to what a rock-n-roll organ can do at full throttle. A necessary part of rock history. Traveling down the road is built into this songs soul. Great choice for reacting.
This is Ritchie tipping his hat to Eric Clapton (see John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers - Steppin' Out) If you want to see this live search "Deep Purple - Lazy (Live, 1972)" Deep Purple performing Lazy live in Scandanavia 1972
Great reaction Harri! It is great to see someone funk out like me with this song. When I was 12 or 13 this was my fave song and I drummed to it all the time! My sisters wanted to do me in.🤠. God bless you!
Joe Bonamassa does a great cover of this song in the studio With Australian singer Jimmy Barnes
one of my favorites
Bad ass outro, gotta love it
I teethed into heavy rock via Deep Purple. Ritchie Blackmore is the reason I have 17 guitars

I grew up hanging out with my bro and his friends they were 7 years older but they listened to all the good music.. so I knew all the good rock and roll as a kid..
Machine Head is one of those great albums that indelibly marks the mind with a new standard of what great means
welcome to the time when music was music, I've been listening to this since 1973, I was 13 years old
72 HARRI, 72 :) 50 YEARS THIS YEAR, MMMMMM, ABSOLUTE CLASSIC GEM AND DESERVES A FULL ALBUM ( MACHINE HEAD ) LISTEN :) LOVE YOUR REACTIONS AND THAT YOU LOVE IT OF COURSE! :)
The band is great but also as someone who has dabbled in music the brits have probably the best mixing desks in the world. I know the Neve console was made in the UK ( what a legendary console Rupert Neve ) plus many others. Now combine that with a good sound engineer and a producer you already have recipe for a good sound. Add Deep Purple to that stew and you have something special. My 2 cents worth. Greetings from Sydney. Great reaction by the way..... It always feels good to see a reaction that was similar to my when I first heard it. Rock on dude......
And one more thing. Listen to My Woman From Tokyo by Deep Purple. I was in Jr High when this all came out. Amazing!!
Awesome reaction. That is just what my friends and I were like when this first came out. Wow! The memories.
Five musicians,.five monsters!
Great reaction It is nice to see you enjoying yourself so much Harri
First, sorry for my English. Jon Lord sent the sound of his Hammond through the guitar's speakers, and that's why it's such a special sound. I always prefer Deep Purple live performances. Lazy in Made In Japan is great, but if you want to see the musicians, Live In Copenhagen 1972 is great too.
This album was a huge banger when it came out, I still have my original vinyl copy from the 70's
Con’t - “made in Japan” album - song “child in time” Great singer!

Can't wait to accompany you down this rabbit hole!!! Great reaction!
So wonderful to see your depth of appreciation. I grew up with this stuff, and as I grew to be a musician, went back and appreciated it more and more. You have elements of straight, classical church, organ style, then shifting to a very hard swing, which is very UN-classical. here’s another bit for your appreciation, the London, cast of Jesus Christ superstar, the fella who played Jesus, is this singer! Ian Gillian, who also plays the harmonica. Peace.
This came out during my senior year in high school, I was ready for this after the Fireball album this was just icing on the cake.
omg. that album.. Guitar's paradise
I remember the first time hearing that as a kid, cool stuff, checklist out live,
Hi there 😊 this reminds me of "Ten years after " going hóme. Alvin lee on the red guitar by night in Woodstock .✌☮️
