1973 Deep Purple was the biggest band in the world in gate receipts and lps sold. You're watching the top 3 guitarist keyboard (Jon Douglas Lord rip) and drummer in the world. Two legitimate lead singers, Glenn Hughes and David Coverdale.

@xsezz Then mark 2 reunited in 1984. They outsold everybody that year. In the same way, the only one that had the edge on them was Bruce Springsteen. So they actually did it twice. It's amazing for a band that gets little radio play.

This was the California Jam in April 1974. Attendance was over 200,000. Other bands included Black Sabbath, the Eagles and ELP.

All masters of their instruments. Check out the guitarist's (Ritche Blackmore) next band called Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio on vocals - must watch song is "Stargazer". Ritchie developed an electronic rainbow for their concerts based on the rainbow from this concert.

They tried to make a Woodstock that made money. "Rock music festival co-headlined by Deep Purple and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, held at the Ontario Motor Speedway in Ontario, California, on April 6, 1974". The guy in white, Glenn Hughes, dressed in various outfits. Ritchie Blackmore on the other hand, The Man in Black, always wore black. This is the title track from the first album of two by MkIII. The MkII singer, Ian Gillan, says Deep Purple is an instrumental band with a singer. A bit of an exaggeration, but not much. They have made 40 minute live versions of songs. Here is MkII with fan made video added of "Highway Star" from the album "Made in Japan", recorded 1972. The best live album by any group. The original track is from the album "Machine Head". The sound on Made in Japan is stellar as well, much better than from California Jam. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aa5_o7VwiLK9kbQ.html

Could have done without the smug condescension and more focus on the music, rather than the fashion. It's also a bit rich, coming from a middle-aged man, who dresses like he thinks he's still 18! Complete with baseball cap! You're doomed to be a prime example of this era's 'medallion man'! At least they were extremely fashionable at the time of this recording and all had more talent in the tip of their little finger, than you have in your entire body! Ridiculously talented musicians!

I was there 😊 Coverdale did a good job despite being a Plant wanna be, but i still prefer Ian on vocals. Blackmore is excellent but a self-indulging spoiled brat. And yes, we were doing a lot of drugs 😅
