Thanks. But people seem to think otherwise. One thing that does irritate me is when people make videos all somber "thanks for 100,000 subscribers, I had to work so hard over the past 6 months since I started a channel" all the while their content sucks. I been doing this the way it is to some degree on here since 2009 lol. But my channel does match more of the adult channels for time I started my channel VS subscribers. A lot of the older OG channels are like 150,000 to 300,000 subs like TNoutdoors9, Gunblast and so many others. To get to a million subs you have to do immature stuff, risky stuff which are often outside the parameters of gun safety.

Unless, it's the Hydrashok 230 gr gr .45 ACP, like the original. For whatever reason that round does so well at 230 gr, at least in a 5" barrel. It runs at upper 800 FPS, close to 900. I'd say 95% of .45 ACP rounds that are 230 gr at 900 FPS fail to expand, but the Hydrashok always seems to stop at like 13" and expand huge. Lots of good street credibility on it too.

Hey! Great bullet design by Federal. I've been saying for years the low grain high velocity "exploding" rounds like the Liberty Civil Defense need to have a small point in the center of the left over disc to keep the bullet going straight. Glad to see that concept put to actual test and proved that it does keep the bullet going straight.

Yesterday I watched a video of a gentleman with a converted black powder revolver, 7.5 inch barrel, sling a boring ol' Hornady cowboy load 255gr 45 Colt down range at a whitetail doe. 55 yards. One shot. Estimated impact of 320 ft-lb (started at maybe 800 fps at MOST). Thing penetrated through and stopped behind the hide on the opposite side. Deer took a dirt nap. Federal is pretty consistent about underperforming advertised velocities in pistol rounds, at least .40 which is mostly what I pay attention to. I know the bullets seem to perform well in general, but I lean toward other mfgs who deliver what they advertise. In 40 S&W that usually means Winchester Ranger or the true boutique ammos like Underwood.

The rifle penetrated through four water jugs. The handgun penetrated through three judging On ammunition test I have seen with this handgun ammunition I would assume that’s the equivalent of about 15 inches of ballistics gel for the 357 and 20 inches of ballistics gel for the 444.

Thanks for this video, very informative test. I would like to see a head-to-head 10mm and .45 ACP series of tests, with the 200 grain Speer Gold Dot HP that Roy Harrell just put a video on. Which is a 200 grain bullet at around 1000 ft per second or so. The reason is that both with the .41 Magnum (Skeeter Skelton and Bill Jordan) and 10mm (Col Cooper) the desire was for not ultra-hot but roughly, a 40 caliber bullet around 200 grains at 1000 feet per second. The idea being an "improved .45 ACP" that overcomes the .45 ACP shortcomings: baseball like trajectory outside 20 yards, lack of consistent hollow point performance, etc. while retaining the mass and momentum that make the .45 ACP effective. In other words, does that marginal 100 feet per second really give better terminal performance and "all around" shootability in terms of short and long, 10 yard to 40 yard performance which is no joke and something handgunners need to think about now. Threats both close and far away. I know .357 magnum will perform all around, but what if I want/need an auto loader for various reasons? I think such a test would answer a lot of people's questions. Is the "improved .45 ACP" really improved? Do you get shootability and better recoil management by downloading 10mm while keeping it "heavy" i.e. 200-220 grains over .40 S&W ? Were Cooper and Jordan/Skelton really seeing results in their own handloading? There are a lot of people who just have no idea of how hard it is to do what you do, so just ignore them. We are happy to see your videos, they always have some good information in real-world performance.

I have chronograph lights, that's all it needs, but they quit working. So I have to order the lights and decide whether I take a chance with getting more errors, or not release videos for awhile. One thing is for certain, a couple chronograph errors when I GOT the numbers regardless is nothing to sweat, yet some people lose their mind over it and disregard an entire test I did to hyperfocus on it. So much so it's all they comment about. I never understood that way of thinking myself.

He was very aggressive strong young and dynamic but dropped just from one shot in the stomach. I have seen another video from the german police where they also just needed one shot to stop the attacker. Than I had to think abut the US cops how much they often need to stop a thread and researched the german police ammo. They do use a very different ammo in 9mm. It has only 94gr bullet and its a solid hp with controlled expansion rated at 1368fps. Its from Men Defencetec called PEP 2. Maybe this ammo is better than the ammo the US cops use?

I would love to see some .45 ACP ammo tests from a short REVOLVER, like a 3" S&W 625-3 or the like. How does modern ammo compare in a grown mans carry revolver is the question.

Seems Federal has improved the Hydra Shok with the "Deep" version. Supposedly new propellant formulation, improved core and "post" design, and deeper penetration through barriers. I'd say the velocity claims are a farse, but the performance overall was very good. I see they also have 38 Special +p in a 130gr. Wonder how well it would do...

You know I am on the side of S&W, but the .40 is one of the worst and best caliber, depending on who you're asking. That S&W cut the 10mm down to try to make the FBI happy, I think it was a sell out caliber. S&W is known for power, not mediocre. The .40 is mediocre. As for the speeds of this ammo, Federal does best on their standard ammunition but lies out their rears on the more performance made ammo. Federal makes good bird shot, good standard deer rounds, good handgun target rounds, and ok hollow points. These were surprising results, but still speeds were underhelming and very inconsistent. The only good thing was their ability to kill and there mushroom consistency. I knew the .45 was going to penetrate further. I don't think the speed difference from the 9mm to the .45 acp made it that much difference. The recoil could be the only bad mark on the .45ACP with some limp wristed individuals. I don't see the point in the .40. If you want a little more power than the 9mm, you go to the .45ACP. If you want more power, you go to the 10mm or the .357mag. The .40 should have never been in a conversation. It's like the FN 5.7. Both the .40 and the 5.7 are calibers made to kiss a government entities rear. Sure, they will penetrate and kill, but there are several calibers that do it better.

I like the .40 S&W for the mediocre performance. It's because unlike 10mm often times, it will still run reliable if you limp wrist it, which I always assume I might do in a real world situation where I need to defend myself with a weird angle or grip I might have on the gun. Also, it fits in a smaller frame. I like the .45 ACP, but I have not personally had one jam from limp wristing, as long as it's not too hot of ammo. My girlfriend is 4'10" and small and can't run more than one consecutive round in a .45 ACP pistol without a jam, but for me I just prefer a good .40 S&W. I mean, most of the .40 S&W ammo I keep in the thing for defense is running at 450 ft lbs energy. That's not bad really.

Your opinion is your opinion, but it's not very informed. The original 40 S&W loading was the same FBI load used in the 10mm Auto, but with an optimized case and using a smaller primer. The benefit was the same power and performance as the FBI's 10mm load, but in smaller framed pistols and with an overall reduction in weight. The Federal Hydra-Shok Deep 40 S&W is a light loading. A standard pressure 40 S&W 165gr projectile should be pushing 1150fps from a 4" barrel, but the Federal Hydra-Shok Deep is only doing 1050 fps from a longer 4.25" barrel. The Federal Hydra-Shok Deep 40 S&W is just utter garbage that is loaded to training ammo levels, which negatively affects its expansion and penetration.

@GunSam Sam, I'm sorry, I know you said it wasn't a competition. The ammunition you showed did a great job. That was your intention. You wanted to show everyone who owned those calibers how well or not so well this Federal ammunition performed. Other than Federals overstating speeds and speed inconsistency, they all performed well, even the 9mm. I am not bagging on people who own a .40. My best man owned a .40 as his sole handgun. I should not have said anything because you were talking ammo performance and not caliber to caliber attributes. I just feel the .40 is just too close to everything around it to make it a strong contender. Of course, while I like the 45 ACP performance and 9mm performance (even though that's a German military round), I wish either the firearm manufacturers would update them or the ammo companies would spend more money in updating the powders and projectiles. But, at the end of the day, they all get the job done. I also keep forgetting that I wear a size 15 ring on my pinky, so anything, frame wise as well, smaller than a 45, is tiny. Sam, I also believe that if someone ever did cause you to have to get into a firefight, I seriously doubt you would limp wrist or fire from an angle you couldn't perform well with. You, even with your arthritis, have been training too long to not be able to follow through with the motions. You may or may not be a trickshot, but you're up there in superhero status with handgun handling and shooting.

Given the unimpressive expansion of the 40 S&W Federal Hydra-Shok Deep, I wouldn't even consider trusting my life to this junk. For those who prefer Federal ammunition, I would recommend staying away from this garbage "Deep" bullet design using the Hydro-Shok name and go with the Federal HST in the caliber of your choice. @@curt2742 I think some people think I am a professional lol, which I guess is a compliment, but in reality a person like me is working with not tens of, or single thousands of dollars per month. It's in the "hundreds" for total ad revenue. Buying several new guns a month and ammo and spending like 3 grand a month on gun supplies is what people think I can do. Again, it's a compliment but in reality I do 8 videos a month, mostly ammo and gel costs and where I am at with these 8 videos' supplies is like 90% of my revenue. I pocket like 100 bucks after the overhead, all while busting ass like 16 hours a week on these videos. So my point is when people are like "oh just do this" they don't realize this includes buying like two more handguns at $600 a piece, now I can't buy ammo. On the off chance I try to make it work by buying a $260 Taurus to get a barrel length that will work, then the Taurus malfunctions and opens a new can of comment worms. I just can't win!

Hi great video. I follow your KZread channel and would like to make a request. For the wrong reasons, today we have this "new" caliber in Brazil, officially launched by Taurus here last week. According to information from specialized personnel here in Brazil who have already analyzed the published technical characteristics, they describe it as a commercial version of the reloaded 9mm balistic characteristics, commonly used in IPSC competitions. It would be great if you, in contact with your supporters, and Taurus get access to both the "new" ammunition and pistol models that suit it for an evaluation. I honestly believe that this caliber could gain worldwide acceptance for a specific audience that has difficulties with the 9mm but wants something more than the .380. Kind regards. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.38_TPC
