    Gripping and pulling the X-clamp with needle nose pliers is a MUCH safer solution. With a good pair, less likely to slip.

    Also using needle nosed pliers is how you pull the white cable connectors. Pulling on the cables is a no no as you could pull the cables from the connectors.

  • @DJSekuHusky

    @DJSekuHusky

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@Mopantsu I wouldn't recommend that, you can actually pull the entire socket off the board that way. There's a groove down the locking channel: insert a flat head 00 screwdriver into that groove and twist gently back and forth to rock the connector free from the socket. That was the way I was trained to do it, alternatively you can use a pry tool to rock the outer wing tabs to achieve the same result, but those are also prone to breakage/slippage. With the X clamps, I was taught to use the largest flat head screwdriver you have with the tip wrapped in thick 3M electrical tape: then just insert in the mouth of the tab and twist as was demonstrated. Way less risk of slipping and if you do, less chance of gouging traces on the PCB.

    I watched this video through once and used it to guide me to cleaning my own Xbox One and I gotta say, super duper helpful especially when it comes to the more sensitive, easy to break bits and what to look out for when dealing with it. Cracked my console open and spent a good 4 hours deep cleaning it, repasted the APU, slapped it back together and it was back up and running. I gotta say Greg, your videos are so helpful and encouraging when it comes to taking care of systems. The problem with using Q-Tips is that you'll most likely end up with the mess that is left on the board. It's easier to blast it a bit with air to remove the small particles, then "soak it" with IPA and brush it off with one of those makeup brushes that are super soft to break it apart and agitate it. That should get rid of most of the gunk, then simply use the air duster again to leave it squeaky clean. Less use of Q-Tips = Less plastic waste = More efficient.

    Yes, that would be most excellent. Swap some drives up to the latest compatible tech. Paint the black plastic outer shell in some custom scheme. Today's plastic specific spray paints really look spectacular. Destiny has been my #1 game for 8 years now and my old xbone console needs to undergo the treatment you just performed on this console. My son's PS4 stopped working just before Christmas. Since we had a PS5 wrapped up waiting for him on Christmas, we made him bite the bullet and go a couple of weeks without his console. Fast forward 2 months. I was bored and decided to take a look at the old PS4. It would power up, but not put out any video or sound. It also sounded like a jet engine ramping up for takeoff. I tore it apart and oh Lord, the fins on the heatsink were completely clogged, the fan was heavily coated in dust, as was everything else on the inside. After about 2 hours of cleaning it, putting new thermal paste on it, and putting it back together, it was at least quiet. It powered up fine, but still had no video out. Out of desperation I took a q-tip with some rubbing alcohol and cleaned out the HDMI port, and VOILA', video output! Turns out all it needed was a massive deep clean to get it to work again.

    Honestly, cleaning is one of my least favourite video series on this channel, but I do like checking them out once in a while when there is something different. I do understand the dedication and extensive amount of work you put into the cleaning content though.

    We continue to upload them because a majority of our viewers find them entertaining/informative. If the feedback was negative and/or viewership was low, we'd move on to something else.

    Ribbon cable nightmare from last week... I cleaned my PS4 for the first time, years overdue, and it all went well relatively speaking, except that the console no longer recognized discs. It turned out the ribbon cable running from optical drive to mobo is super fragile. I hadn't wiggled it enough before pulling it out (honestly didn't pull very hard either though), and I slightly damaged the blue plastic feet on one or both ends. Long story short, I ordered a replacement cable for $5 on Amazon and it fixed it. To everyone reading this, please be very gentle with the ribbon cables to avoid my error. I'm guessing durability is one reason ribbon cables lost the war against SATA. Thanks to Greg for posting these!

    Most brush-less fans are submersible, not officially, but I've cleaned many with good old soap and water, even tossed an especially bad one in the dishwasher. Yes, I've even plugged them in and seen them spin while submersed, more than once.

    I just opened my xbox for the very first time. I'm honestly surprised it wasn't as dirty as I expected. Yes it was dirty but not disgusting. The thermal paste on the chip was all crusty and looked burnt. So I put some MX-6 on it. Works well on my GPU and CPU.

    It's surprising how easy the Xbox One is to take apart. Might give mine a good clean as it hasn't ever been opened since I got it in 2015, much like this one.
