Decolonising Knowledge: What is Decolonisation? | Rolando Vázquez Melken

An introduction to the decolonisation of knowledge, with dr. Rolando Vázquez Melken, associate professor of Sociology at the University College Roosevelt of Utrecht University and co-founder of the Decolonial Summer School.
SG TU Delft presents: the Decolonising Knowledge series
This series of events explores the legacy of colonial power structures in society. Decolonisation, roughly put, is a social movement and academic project that seeks to empower knowledge, cultures, and peoples marginalized by the legacy of colonialism and its power structures. This movement also reflects critically on the historical role of universities and Western knowledge production in relation to colonialism. It encompasses issues of race, gender, land ownership, ways of knowing, reparations, resource extraction, rights and representation, and more.
The program will consist of a core of lecture series introducing the decolonial perspective and its application. There will also be numerous satellite events with master classes, a film night, and discussion groups.
Visit www.sg.tudelft.nl for more on our events.
Recorded @ NewMedia Centre, TU Delft

"decolonising knowledge" stop using the word if you are not talking about giving indigenous people their land back, decolonizing is not a metaphor

Indonesia should be compensated for 4 centuries of Dutch colonization and the millions that were killed and enslaved. but this can be a beginning.

How can you sit 40 minutes and listen to such a racist awkward speech that wants to divide mankind and its knowledge according to its... skin colour? This sounds like the most ridiculous project I ever heard since 1937. This man is completely obsessed with race. Somebody please teach him this simple fact: Race. Does. Not. Exist.

An introduction to post-modern neo-marxist critical race theory. Europe had an earlier experiment where socialism was connected with race instead of class. Only idiots think that this isnt dangerous. To be clear western knowledge isn't ethnicly based. Europeans are incredibly divers but this guy lumps us all together by the colour of or skin as WHITE? Colonies are settlements are as divers as the nations that established them. Dutch colonies are not the same as spanish colonies or english or belgian. Decolonializing is the same as desettlement as in uprooting societies. It doesnt value the change that came from europe nor understands it. It is a blind attack on our heritage brought on by envy and hate.

@@veronicagomezdeemiliani4481 You dont understand the voluntry submission to european standards. There is nothing to decolonize. Or maybe you want to negate the sheer awe Europeans invoked in non-europeans. Because that is our real method to submission.
